Some guy made a theory that’s probably true They knew this was controversial and delayed the update to see community sentiment “Maybe the community does t mind and we just add it in and we make more money” Proving the sentiment basically to see how much they can get for it, shows you can never trust the company since they will always try to find a way to make more money from you
The class itself was already buggy, they didnt wanna dedicate resources to it because for whatever reason, they decided to let another region have a different skinned version Zen, which essentially took more manpower to create resources for. We didn't even know if Kanna and Hayato would survive because theyre JMS classes, even Beast Tamer is a non KMS class and is even further pushed back because its not KMS material. If you have any open spots, be sure you have a beast tamer because if it gets chopped, like Jett they did a same day cancel where you couldnt make Jetts anymore and announced the 1 time rewards for the Jett removal transfer event. All other regions have some extent non KMS material, and honestly since Wonki's promotion, I am afraid a lot of it might get axed. Wonki said on a stream, he could of monetized 5th job, but didnt, more like other advisors probably didnt let him but now with his promotion 6th job is being monetized, coincidence huh? Anywho, GMS has Green pot/0 Attack Speed, CMS has Mo Xuan class, JMS has the Sengoku stuff between the Classes and bosses, as well as familiars etc. I fear we may lose more non KMS stuff, do know that because GMS gets usually resources from the other non KMS versions, we have a higher ceiling then KMS does though, on average, player power is completely lacking.
@@crazychristyler714No shot, didn't expect to see Chris here. Bro your videos are inspiring, it's crazy that even you're fighting with us on this horrible situation.
When freaking DAVID makes a serious video that's when you know Nexon fked up. I haven't played Maple in 4 years but I've known him for almost 12 at this point and he's *never* done something like this before.
It's a shame because it felt like Nexon has been making great progress in the time you've stopped playing and making videos about Maplestory, just for them to backtrack and then take 10 additional steps further back with only one update. You've done yourself a great favor moving over to League content when you did because this is the worst state Maplestory has been in years if not ever.
I'm glad you're speaking out, especially as one of the most ICONIC and positive people in the maplestory community throughout the years. I hope we somehow get through to people who can make a change in time for the 6th job patch on the 28th. We're with you, and I aint spending until I get some good news. We all know this change is NOT it.
Thanks for making this video! You are probably one of the most respected Maple content creators out there. I know you usually stay away from drama but we need figures like you to really enact change. It was lovely meeting you at MapleFest. I really hope we can get this changed.
David actually brought a really important concept that applies to any real-life business. If a company milks its employees, they might produce more results in the short run, but eventually are destined to fail. Same principle can be applied to a videogame. This is not a competition (owner vs employee/ Nexon vs players) but rather a collaboration (you help me I help you). Sometimes it's hard to believe why some companies are so oblivious to this foundation.
maplestory has had a scandal like every 6months for many years now and it keeps on chugging along, and I believe Maplestory mobile is their current moneymaker.
The severity of this situation is massive when Daboki makes a video about it. I sincerely hope Nexon removes the cap. Artificially creating a problem and then selling the solution is WILD even for Nexon.
I do hope things change with the game. A lot of us has been playing the game on and off since the beta or the official release, so the game does hold some sort of sentiment for a lot of us. I do want this game to thrive again, but with these kinds of updates from Nexon, the game population will dramatically decrease, potentially to the point where there isn't enough money to keep the servers up. I've always came back to this MMORPG whenever I felt bored or something new is coming out. Now that excitement got ripped from underneath us. I understand wanting more money for the company, but how can they make money when you'rre decreasing the quality of your own game that doesn't have a big playerbase? A lot of people are potentially gonna quit the game, people in the Bean Brigade will most likely leave, and they're gonna lose even more money because of these changes.
Nexon highly praises Maplestory as one of their most successful brands with high longevity. They highlight it at every shareholder meeting. You would think that if they were so proud of MapleStory and wanted it to continue being successful that they would examine the player sentiment in all regions of the world and correspondingly adjust their monetization strategy so that it does the "OPPOSITE" of frustrate and upset the communities. But in the end it's all about who calls the shot at the top level, right? As much as everyone would like to save MapleStory, there really isn't going to be anything that a few handful of creators can do about it. No one was able to save MapleStory 2, so no one will be able to save MapleStory. It would require LITERALLY the vast majority of the community to stand united against business decisions that the players do not agree with. If that happens (and ONLY if that happens) then we would begin to see a change. But even if 100, 1000, or even 10,000 creators/influencers made videos about how they dislike the changes in the game, it's going to fall on deaf ears UNLESS the majority of players vote with their WALLETS. Meaning not paying Nexon a dime for decisions that they dislike. But I doubt players will be in unison when it comes to such a campaign, because it's usually always a silent majority and a vocal minority. Nexon will ONLY take player feedback seriously if players stop paying them for questionable practices. If players keep paying despite the negative direction the game goes in, then nothing will change. Or rather, things will only keep getting worse. I don't know about other viewers, but I will watch you for other games besides MapleStory. If the game inevitably goes downhill, then it is what it is. Daboki is the content, not MapleStory.
I used to play off-and-on since the end of beta. The Big Bang patch actually made me like the game--actually made me start spending money on the game. I had hyper burned my main character three times over the years and still never got to 250. The closest I got was 248, and it took me 16 hours of attempts to beat storymode Gloom in Reboot but I kept on trucking through. Kept grinding for, well, everything there is to grind for. Until recently. In the run up to the 6th job launch the 6th star event's obscene grind was it for me. I burned all the way out. I just said to myself: I literally can't do this. I will wait until 6th job comes out to decide if I want to come back. This does not make me want to come back.
I remember walking away from MS for good when cubes came out. I heard good things about reboot last year so I decided to give it a chance again and I am surprised as hell I'm still playing it. But this whole booster subscription antic just puts a bad taste in my mouth again. It's just a slap in the face to the people that actually care for the game, put time into the game, and grind the game.
They need more marketing and advertising! They’re so greedy and have so little faith in GMS that they aren’t willing to invest any amount of money into advertising this game again. I don’t ever get recommended MS stuff until I started searching it up myself- that’s not good at all! USE NOSTALGIA AS YOUR WEAPON! That’s what got me and my friends back onto it 😩 STOP screwing over your current player base and just find ways to attract attention back onto MS. Nostalgia is so powerful. PPL R PAYING a lot of real money on dressing up their Roblox char 💀 Come on Nexon.
I am redownloading maple atm, and was really hyped for new age. But this sours things a bit for me. It's unfortunate that the only consistency between kms and gms is how much more favored kms is when compared to gms. The double standard of "we are removing/nerfing gms features to bring things more inline with kms" to this. Definitely upsetting.
KMS is heavily favored because they alone make up over like 80% of the profits for Nexon Maplestory IP across all regions, NA is a very small part of it and therefore GMS has always been like a step child. Would you be concerned if barely 10% of your clientele was upset vs the clientele that make up a vast majority of your profits? Reboot was never touched by the exp change until (rumor and speculation) a Korean Streamer went to K-Reboot and that won over a ton of KMS players to K-Reboot so they lost a lot of profit off players going to a reboot server. This exp change, is rumored to be backlash to that to coax more players back to reg servers where they need to buy cubes instead of meso farming. I still dont like this change, honestly it feels like Wonki is behind it, he mentioned months ago on a news stream for maple that he COULD have monetized 5th job, but he didnt. To which that is exactly what theyre doing now, monetizing and restricting some regions to get more money out of them. If you dont know, Wonki got promoted to a higher Nexon position for MS on a larger scale, and left his position to another guy.
I quit over a year ago when they added the clover event and made it nigh impossible to cap (and still get ur dailies, weeklies, bosses done) unless you paid for the premium pass or spent an absurd amount of hours playing the game. I knew they were going in this direction based on the principle in that very moment and realistically Nexon has been working towards this for reboot for a while now. The thing is, I told my friends this and I read what people in the community said about it and for the most part, most of the community accepted and welcomed the whole clover event and the premium pass for it, mostly because the rewards were just so good. Most of the dissent I saw for it was not widespread and kind of got drowned out by other things or people saying it wasnt necessary to buy or the cost wasn't that high. As much as Nexon is at fault for this change, I whole heartedly believe the maplestory GMS/reboot community is just as guilty for accepting the treatment they receive from Nexon. Nexon is like an abusive partner, they know they can get away with abusing their players because quite frankly, way too many of the players are hooked and addicted and have sunk so much time into the game that they feel like they are in too deep, they are just 1 more month away from maxing that symbol, 3 months away from libbing, a couple weeks from hitting said level... the problem is Nexon doesn't want that cycle to end and will consistently keep adding things to make sure that their hardcore players never get to a point where they can finally rest and take it easy. This is just the mentality of the Korean gaming industry and sadly these companies will always get away with shady business tactics as long as the players allow it to happen. For Nexon to even change doesn't only depend on the GMS community but the KMS community as well, as long as KMS accepts their insane monetization structure, Nexon won't bend for GMS and will keep trying to add changes to monetize the game more heavily.
I know you're very mellow and kind and don't like to take part in drama, but this is something bigger than that and I'm so glad you spoke out about this. Additionally why this is was even worse than you could imagine because at 3:45 you mention the Sol erda is a 1:1 ratio per lvl, but it's only that at very early levels, later the sol erda cost per level become *extremely steep* to the point where the final lvl on your Orgin skill costs 20sol erda. Additionally, as we'd be maxing our current skills with this really low cap, new skills would be released, making our grind for the entire 6th job take upwards of potentially 8years! Regardless, it seems we've won today! As they've increase this 400cap to 30,000! Which is basically unlimited unless you train 18~20hs+ a day. And in addition we get to keep the daily which is really nice for more casual players.
Trying to make the game more like mainstream gacha games like Honkai or Genshin, and even though there's clearly a gacha element to maple it's a very different type of game from those other gacha games. Those games are built that way and works for them, but it doesn't work with maplestory. Full disclosure, I stopped playing a while ago and I was a player from around the time Ossyria was only a few days old and the game doesn't resemble the game I once loved so much.
I hope stuff like this brings the community closer to support each other with existing in-game problems because you pointed out the big issue which is the consistent justification for maple’s wrong doings.
Could’ve sold vac pet for a reasonable price like 20-30 dollars and the water for them like to regular water they would have gotten all the casual and whales to throw money at them
As maplesea f2p casual player, was expecting the cap will hit msea as well after gms uproar, with a little sprinkle of bs related to it, and viola! Sol erda booster. Maplesea ATM still being sustained by whales only since we dont have reboot, but i know how ppl will still support sol erda booster
this actually hurts, i was recommending a friend about how maple is better now that reboot can be played without paying but this is like cutting off any chance of newer players trying the game.
I would play this game for the rest of my life if it weren't in the claws of the greediest and most vile gaming company on this planet. It is, was, my comfort zone. They spit in our faces and the community is thankful because "well at least they brushed their teeth this time" . . . We have no voice, and we have no cohesion. Most players laughed when Kanna was put in a grave. Far too many people shrugged when Jett was thanos snapped. Legacy content, legacy items, totem removal, meso shop prices, nexon straight up lying anytime they speak directly to the community, this isn't an abusive partner, this is just a serial killer. I can't fully express my love for maplestory, it's actual torture watching it being eroded constantly.. I would quite literally rather the servers be shut down than how it is now. At least then maybe a smaller company could pick up the rights, or at least private servers could feel safe. Scream into the void over, have a nice day.
Its not the fact they are trying to monetize 6th job thats bothering me so much that its a region exclusive thing. I can accept that everywhere outside of KMS is pretty much step child status, the games are going to be different, for YEARS we have been balanced around our own niches, like Attack Speed, some region exclusive classes like Mo Xuan and the differences between Jett/Zen, and region exclusive content like Familiars or Gollux...but, outside of pets, gacha style cosmetics, theres only so many avenues they can take for more profits until it landed on something that was P2W like 6th job. I honestly disagree that features like this should have been avoided as a P2W feature, if anything, kept it at totems, people would probably love to buy totems still and when we had it as a maple point item, it was still somewhat friendly toward F2P. Its one thing if you wanna monetize progression like that, things like battle passes or the like would of been just as negatively received give or take. The line that really gets crossed is when you limit regions and its completely different from another, KMS doesnt have a cap, they could straight up buy 5 sol erda monthly too, but they could grind it and earn it too at their own pace. Everywhere else is going to have to be Casual and grind the 400 + daily quest amount and just have to be fine with it or pay a huge sum just to finish like 4 months faster. 30 monthly isnt exactly cheap when youre talking about end game players who have premium vac pets and the like, youre just going to sour the experience more with that. Gonna still be a casual, I login, do dailies, logoff, bc this game isnt worth my money. I got an account banned for just being in the wrong map afk, I didnt get to appeal, I didnt get to see their evidence, and was told another ticket would result in me being blacklisted for abusing support. I tried again because I love this game, I grew up on it, its nostalgic, I have fun with it, Im probably still gonna do small things here and there but Im not paying money to this company for how terrible they treat every region thats not KMS
ive already redownloaded aoe2 on steam and preparing to just collect previous event rewards then uninstall and block all ms content on every social platform so i dont get any info reminder. Similarly to you, this 6th job thing probably wouldnt even affect me because im very casual and i probably wouldnt even see 6th job since im busy leveling up legion and getting mules to 220s-250s. But the point is nexons methods and ideals are already too fked. They dont fix, they remove content. They dont reveal all the info during hype periods, they just try to under table sneak in the bs right before update. This is shady tactics that wouldnt help a business survive long. You can scam someone a few times but that'll be it. To all who choose to continue playing and hoping that nexon will change, good luck. But I refuse to stay in a relationship with someone who already have these kinds of thoughts and are willing to pull such bs. My advice is the earlier you pull the plug, you more time you save that you can put into something else. I got nothing against daboki or copper and many of the other yters who put up maple content but i gotta block yall too. Better to not see anything when you move on. Good luck everyone
I recalled that Nexon Director Wonkii initially wanted to implement the similar monetization for 5th job Arcane system before. Now Nexon actually did it...
I quit Maple a long time ago, like in 2018 because of the greed and pay to win and i was going to come back with new age but I'm totally done now. it's just getting worse.
Daboki I wondered whether or not I would actually see you talk about this. I really appreciate that you did. I’ve been saying for a long time if what we need to do is just pay the damn subscription to make this game a healthier environment then maybe that’s what we should do. The amount of people who spend north of $500 every few months on this game, are likely keeping it afloat. I understand that the game needs to make money but taking away features and then selling the solutions to artificial problems is not the way to game player trust. I I mean it’s not even the first time they’ve done it it’s just one of the most obvious and egregious. They made the spawn rate crappy, and then they sold it back with totems and eventually removed Kishin. The biggest shame to me is that they’re actually capable of monetizing areas of the game that don’t feel so cheap. Pets or a great example because nobody wants to hold z while they spam their skills. But if reboot has to have players that spam nx cash to have their own mini 2x events, to buy permanent pets, then again, we can really call it reboot anymore? Imagine the stockholm syndrome on regular server players holding on to accounts they’ve spent absurd money just to justify it. I’m ranting, there’s so much to say.
Make a problem --> sell something ridiculously expensive as solution --> get expected backlash from community --> make it a little less expensive --> profit infinitely. Man I am so glad I finally decided to quit for good over a year ago. I didn't even play anything but Reboot because playing as someone from the Netherlands, normal worlds are screwed coz we can't trade so I might play reboot as well anyway. 15-16 years of effort wasted just to fully start over. No more though.
Yeah I think this is sooo pathetic of the Nexon America game devs (or whoever's in charge), this decision really makes it seem like they fundamentally don't understand or care about the game and it's playerbase at all anymore. Like it's just such a SHAMELESS display of detached corporate greed lol. Comes off as soulless
Here's my interpretation of what probably happened. Some behavior analyst who contracts for nexon probably told them: hey, the gms market is not going to like kms 6th job. It is too grindy and slow, and the vast majority of players won't be able to progress in it due to the time requirements. Nexon then said ok, how can we fix this. Well, what if we increase the drop rate of energy, add a daily for it, and give the players who are willing to spend some money an option as well? If we do that though, the market for the sol erdas will be messed up, so lets make them untradeable. Also we have to consider kms, don't want to upset the kms players by making them think they got an objectively worse version of 6th job, so let's set a cap. What would be fair? Well, maybe on average a typical kms player will get about 1 erda per day, so let's set the cap with our daily to get that. See, I think what people need to recognize is that this probably isn't some dude sitting in front of the board of directors, spinning his evil mustache and laughing at the outrage from the players. Realistically, this is more likely to just be them being out of touch with the community and being too slow with communication to get out in front of this. With the improvement from 400 to 30,000, personally I think they took it in the other direction and if I was a kms player, I'd be looking at what they're doing in sea and gms and be a bit annoyed, but as someone who is a very casual gms player, the 30k cap is pretty much the best case scenario for us. It's outright unfair in our favor.
thank you so much for speaking up. i really hope that people won't buy the booster so that it can prove a point to nexon that this was NOT the solution to the problem. $30 a month is so insane for people who are playing a free game where it's about grinding for progression. imagine spending $360 a year on this, and on top of that people will also be buying pssbs, marvel, and other items in the shop.... this feels so criminal from them. I understand it's from a financial standpoint for them too, but when the community reaches out in this way, I don't believe that pushing that agenda onto us makes it's a viable solution. I really hate the route their going, and hope that they can fix this as soon as possible
The huge shady part was the fact they pushed back 6th job til AFTER black friday. Where they would've hit everyone with the sudden cap, after everybody happily spent their money. They full intended to milk out the players knowing they'd get suckered into the sales in excitement for 6th job.
Same dude I’m so tired of maple :/ this & the whole costume boxes thing is such a money hungry tactic also how the game has become a solo experience and a repetitive solo grind I’m just tired of it
Daboki as always thanks for the video. It sucks that they cant implement something that makes sense and mess it up. and then makes an solution which require us to pay for it to work? that is so wrong and its only gonna be people who really wants to get through it fast.. its pay2win they include again.. Well Thanks for speaking up man! keep up being awesome and being you!
Boooo…29,800 nx practically $30 or a little more. Plus people don’t got time for games these days. Many old players have quit and quite few who still play can only last for a while. 😒 Many players moved over to Reboot just as much as Daboki has because of how much monetization it has become in normal servers. We love them the fm used to be a thing too, but in this day and age our pockets can’t support that stuff. Reboot is a way to play without monetizing but it’s a double grind for mesos. The 2 reasons as to why I quit was time, time that I do not have and time to grind for mesos to cover my equipment and upgrade them. 5bil+ to upgrade equips and it booms I gotta find another. Plus pots.
I'm gonna be making my first character on the new fresh realm. Hopefully it's changed by the time I get to needing it xD any suggestions on a good starting character?
Yeah I’m tired of it tbh I’m already falling off and let’s face it the newer generation is not interest in maple the og are the ones keeping it afloat & to just disrespect that community is not the way to go.
As a mapler since beta and seeing ALOT of changes. This is the worst one. I mean they can remove the cap and still add the booster if they want. But give the players the option to decide how fast they want to progress.
I think you hit the nail on the head without directly saying it. The problem is that instead of focusing on attracting new players that will eventually spend money, Nexon decided to try and bleed the current playerbase dry, and in doing so they've driven more players away, so in the end they make less money. They seriously need to change focus to try and bring in more new players instead of trying to get current players to spend more.
I feel Like Erda booster should still exist, but without the cap added to Sol Erda, Let us grind and allow people who don't have time to grind the ability to log in and still progress. I feel with this Nexon can get their win cause people would still buy it without it hurting the whole community.
I’d gotten banned for hacking/botting when I was doing my dailies back in October. Despite having a long record of following TOS since 2012, I was frankly upset for obvious reason. It just seems Nexon just doesn’t have the players best interests and would rather milk their cash cows and fuel their greed, case in point with Dark and Darker a few months back. Woke up reading messages from my friends who miss me and I can say I’m not surprised at all hearing about this news.
It’s out there now. Probably won’t be changed. I mean, they never officially fixed frenzy totems yet they chose to remove Kishin. Like lol wut… not surprised with this move.
What makes me even more pissed is that the CS transfer event is broken, older items (bought pre 2019) cannot be transfered, Nexon knows about this and no fix in sight... They just swept it under the rug.
man I just started playing again after like 10 years because back then leveling up was such a grind that i was virtually unplayable. Now its so much more easier to level up and and enjoyable, this is a terrible choice nexon.
What we and everybody that plays maplestory in the west wants is obviously not the most profitable. There probably HAS to be more p2w in reboot because of it's popularity in the west. I don't think this is it (maybe it'll blow over. There have been bigger controversies and worse community backlash to game decisions that have turned super profitable), but we can't expect reboot to stay a f2p paradise where nobody pays for the game to function.
I mean if the people that are receiving the feedback can't do anything, and our voices get nowhere when we speak to them. Why do they even work there then, and why is the platform we use to contact them still in existence? They're being paid to do basically nothing at that point. There's no reason for most of the GMS team to even exist if every decision is entirely on the whim of an exec that doesn't care about player feedback and the things that exec wants to happen only happening because of people working on the game directly to translate and implement changes. Like there's only really two possible scenarios that leads to what GMS is now. 1. People that are supposed to be forwarding our feedback aren't, so they aren't doing what their literal job is. or 2. They're doing their job, but there's no reason for their job to exist if the feedback they're forwarding doesn't matter, and the person making the decisions makes them regardless of what feedback they're receiving. But regardless of the case, someone isn't doing their job and it no longer justifies the existence as GMS as a separate version of the game, instead of just being handled by another region, if everything that GMS does now is pretty much just handled by a few programmers and localizers, any region of Nexon can hire them and have them doing essentially the same thing, and there's no longer a reason for the exec to be in charge of a separate version of Maplestory.
I don't even play Maplestory anymore and I just check into your channel once in awhile daboki because I like to hear you talk. But this is so sad to see. Maplestory is essentially trying to create a monthly subscription from all of its players to create a more consistent revenue stream. Something similar to a battle pass in other free to play games, only this isn't a cosmetic. With this, you are virtually guaranteed to extract 30$ from almost every avid maplestory player monthly. When this releases, players will be buy it. If you don't you are behind. The only way this doesnt continue to be a thing is if the community bands together and collectively speaks out against this and refuses to buy it. GMS is about to make a shit ton of money right now and they know it. They are monetizing a resource that players need at no additional cost to them. Why spend money designing cash shop items, hoping players would like it, when you can just create something that players need and will buy monthly, at no extra cost to the team? I hate to say it but this is going to work and I don't see maplestory changing. Eventually reboot servers will no longer be "maplestory without the paywall" itll just be "maplestory with a lower paywall".
KMS is making them so much money they should know that it works to please the community GMS just wanted to add too many things and to be so different from KMS.
I love you @Daboki, but this is tbh expected from the failure we call Nexon. I don't know much longer you can keep playing this game and create content about it. Monetization upon monetization. Just make the game p2p at this point lol. I'd rather pay 10 bucks a month and play a decent balanced game, instead of playing a free game, which I need to invest 1000k NX in to get somewhere. Also, if this is the same for Reboot, they just absolutely messed up their game's new major update, again.
If GMS wanted too make money without doing things like This they should let people Who own businesses or work long hours who don’t have the time to grind for hours buy or build accounts to where we are on equal Footing to those who do have the time, but may not have the the money. I have the money, but I’ll never have the time to do this 6th job Sol Erda thing. There are a lot of people with money who don’t have time that want to experience the game at high levels but can’t sacrifice the time. GMS has been pay to pay for awhile, let people buy packages that let them have high levels accounts. I think this Sol erda thing is really going to destroy GMS. I work 70 hours a week I’m not using my limited time for Sol Erda boosters which already barely cut down the time.
