31 degrees this morning in Griffin. I lost half my chickens the day after DST changed because I forgot to change the door closing time and I unknowingly locked them out of the coop. Fox came and ate half. I hate predators, but I hate being stupid even more! We had a broody the week before so put 6 eggs under her, so will have some replacements soon. Glad I didn't have any plants in the ground for the garden. I knew to wait, but it was so nice that it's hard to not go full on Summer mode.
269 plants all planted 20 feet appart.... that's 5380 feet, just over a mile of muscadines to prune, not counting your small vineyard. I'd start pruning in November as soon as the leaves are off if it were me! Great video though! Looking forward to more this spring and summer!
Hello Shane, just think how many grape vine wreaths. Jim made a living workin the vineyard’s. No thank you, I never make the wreaths. We use to horse hoe the weeds when I was growing up. I have enough hens. Wish we had planet fruit trees. My hens are giving us a lot of eggs. Thank you for sharing what you have done. 💕NonnaGrace 🐓
1:10 in Vine Haybale! No wood chipper? We're working on bio-char for the new garden this year. Plans to grow tons of Trellised Melons this year. Really weird stuff. Vineyard looks awesome! Sorry about the Quail. Our only bareroot Peach tree was loaded with Peach borers that took it out. Think our Celestial Fig tree died in the short winter. No see any signs of life. The Apple tree is a boss and had no problems.
Nice video Shane. I have 6 Two year old vines from Ison's i transplanted 4 weeks ago. 4 have new leaves and i have 10 two year old vines I propagated last year and every one of them has new leaves. My older vines do not have leaves yet and every morning at daylight I am out there with coffee looking for new leaves or buds. It is sort of like waiting for my sows or mare to drop.
The good thing about muscadines is that they are so forgiving. You can prune them from late December through at least mid- March and get the same results. We have about 50 vines and it's a chore so I can't imagine 300!!! Better you than me but we will be glad to come and help you prune next year. When our chickens get going with egg laying we start freezing them. We just scramble them up and vacuum seal them in 6 or 12 so we can have scrambled eggs during times when they aren't laying much. We only have 10 layers now but they're giving us 5-6 a day instead of the 1 a day we get during winter. We got American Bresse chicks back in February and hope to start using them as a dual purpose bird rather than raising the Cornish Cross. I can get you some fertile eggs sometime this summer if you want to try them. It's crappie season!! Let's go fishing.
Hello Shane my friend. This is the first video that's come in since I got kidney failure. I'm fine now and thinking to start up a small garden this year. Hope everyone there is happy and healthy. I've missed seeing ya'll.
That's quite a lot of vines! Hopefully you won't have a late frost and all your fruit will be able to grow to maturity! I also hope we get to see more videos from you guys. I know you have been busy with many things but now that spring is starting and the land along with the animals are waking up, your desire to share with us will too. We miss you and all that's going on at Kinfolk Farms. Can't wait to see those chicks!
Our life long friend that had a vineyard always invited the college kids out from Sam Houston State and Texas A&M at pruning time. They came out and helped for the learning experience. Do you have anything like that near you? All of our wild grapes already have leaves.
Fun video! I got my first pollen sacs of the year March 24. (Greenwell Springs, LA) That's much earlier than last year. I don't recall any videos really discussing them. Curious about the timeline in your neck of the woods.
I've got temps expected in the 20's tonight here in western Kentucky which will be a hard frost/freeze. My pear trees are blooming so there goes most of my pear crop for this year. Hope that cold doesn't make it all the way down to you?
Watching this one again.......I think I see a grapple attachment for your tractor in the future..... 😉 When you put quail eggs in the incubator, how long do you save them before puttin them in? I have, I think 41 (whole turner full) right now, in the incubator. I don't save more than a week or so. Mine should hatch out on the 12th of this month.
@@KinfolkFarmofGeorgia Haha, I wish I could try some of them. Because our wild ones that grow here, I don't like. They have a funny after taste. And I just can't do em. I love the Mustang grapes that grow wild here tho.
Hello Shane love your videos. I’ll be waiting for that weed control one! I’ve got a concern about starting my vineyard. The only field that I own, holds a good bit of water after a good rain the winter months. This year was extremely bad with the excessive rains! From every thing I’ve read and seen on the videos is that muscadines don’t like wet feet. So I’ve been contemplating tilling that field to get rid of the water! Is I worth the investment? It’s about a 1 1/2 acre field… Thanks for your thoughts!!! It would be about a $2000 investment
