Shane, hello from Franklin. It’s good to see you posting again, I’ve missed seeing your videos. I just pruned my muscadines and planted a new Carlos, another Noble and 3 new Black Spanish bunch grapes. I may be heading back to see you for Carlos this year.

Greta tips Shane! Great explanations! Potted are certainly better than bareroot. A trip to Ison's is worth it. (If one can't make it to Ison's to pickup and want a potted plant... Bottom's Nursery will ship potted.) Trick on the Blue X tubes, install the zip tie backwards so it's removable. Then you can undo it and slide the tube up to clean growth. I'm torn on their use too, but they do help protect from deer eating the young growth to the ground. Excited about spring and getting our vines ready too. Actually planted 5 new varieties last week. (Up to 13 varieties on our place.)

I'm so glad you had good luck with Ison's nursery. I ordered 11 vines, 2 raspberries from them. Almost all of them died. Fertilized just like they recommended. The 2 or 3 that's left hasn't even made it to the wire. I've never felt so cheated!
@KinfolkFarmofGeorgia

I hope you contacted them. They usually warranty everything. I've been using them for years had some die but they took care of me. Lots of reasons for that much dead plants. Could have burnt up with fertilizer or soil or frost. I hate to hear that for sure.

Good to see you back. Had me worried. You do it about like I do. I use the hedge trimmers to clean it up and then get to whacking! I'd like to see a horticulturist come and figure out exactly how much new growth these put on in a year. You really can't make a mistake , unless you cut the main vine. Last year, I had chosen a couple of new laterals to replace some main laterals that were struggling. I'm busy pruning and cut one of the new laterals! No problem though. It will grow back. I still have a few vines to do but need to set up some propagation on a few 50 + year-old vines at my parent's old place. I'm going to remove those vines this fall because they've really cut back on production due to the woods encroaching and cutting off the sunlight. We just got back from 2 weeks in Montana. Glacier and Yellowstone in winter was a spectacular trip!

Hey do you think it's okay to mulch, you're muscadine Vines I'm in Florida
@KinfolkFarmofGeorgia
@KinfolkFarmofGeorgia 6 месяцев назад
If you don't really worry about frost in winter I would say sure. Especially if you way down south FL. Muscadines have shallow roots so roots could grow up in the mulch freeze and die up here
@motherofswag1261
@motherofswag1261 6 месяцев назад
I didn't know the roots could grow up through the ground into the mulch
