This film was unlike every other film in this franchise. It felt so slow and sad and miserable, but also so real and vulnerable. I love what this movie did in building the characters relationships before the final showdown. Enjoy :)

I might be one of the few but I never thought about the dance between Harry and Hermione as romantic. I always seen it as Harry trying to cheer up Hermione,having a moment of "happiness".

THIS!! Every reactor seems to go into the romantic route. They forget that at this point Hermione and Harry are like siblings who love and care for each other.
@bidishah

As a book reader, of course this is how I see the scene too. But the filmmakers anf actors have apparently gone on record saying the scene was made to be more open-ended. That's what ends up confusing most reactors.
@AnjeannetteMarie-Swifie4Ever
Me neither, maybe I’m biased from the books (I know they never did this dance in the books) that there was never anything romantic between Harry & Hermione. I totally just get a best friend trying to cheer his friend up vibe cuz “THESE ARE DARK TIMES”
@davidfairweather3301
@davidfairweather3301 Год назад
@@bidishahyeh the actors and directors wanted it to be something that hinted at the possibility of Hermione and Harry doing something in that moment. Think Emma Watson said something like “there’s always that awkward moment in a friendship where something could very easily happen, and that’s that moment for them” - she does also say that it’s a light hearted moment in a time that they’re depressed and scared to death so it does work well for the movie, but in terms of what’s established in the books about Hermione and Harry, they would never even come close to wanting to kiss each other or be romantic. Harry said in the book he always saw Hermione as a sister.

@@silverkyreWhat i see is harry taking the horcrux off of Hermione and setting it aside, before accepting that responsibility- they dance. Not romantically at all, they laugh, they are best friends. Outside of the actual deaths that is probably the worst thing to happen in the series. It's obvious why it needed to happen, to protect them from torture in order to get to the trio, but to completely remove yourself from your family, especially a happy family like hers, and knowing that they are out there living life as a happy couple while you have all the memories of them but can never be their child again, it's heartbreaking.

Love your observations about why the trio were having conflicts and breakdowns. A detail from the book that would put more perspective on the radio thing - the channel Ron was listening to would announce the names of the people death eaters killed that week or month.Since Ron's family was one of their biggest targets, he was constantly anxious and on edge, waiting for his worst fear to come true and hear a family member's name. But Harry hated hearing those names because he somewhere blamed himself for all of it. That's why it puts him on edge when Ron listens to the radio but it's a comfort thing for Ron to sleep better knowing that his family is still alive.

Dobby's death was like a cruel blow for us all just because of how pure he was. He really just wanted to protect Harry Potter, the very person that gave him what he wanted the most: freedom. The movies don't show it, but Dobby helped Harry in more ways that is known. For example... Dobby came to work at Hogwarts at the fourth book and was the only elf cleaning the Gryffindor Tower, since the other elfs stopped doing it when Hermione started to fight for the rights of house-elfs and started leaving clothes for them around the common room. And he was the one to tell Harry about the Room of Requirement so they could use it for the DA meetings. And he also helped Harry spying on Draco during the sixth book. At least, he died happy and free on Harry's arms... doing what he always wanted to do: save Harry.

The whole side plot about elves drives me mad. It’s quite realistic that wizards (in general) enslaved them because they (the elves) are so unbelievably powerful. It’s terrible but it (unfortunately!) fits real humans, and it fits into the wizarding world. But why would Hogwarts do so? Why would they do so after Hermione’s work? Why would Harry keep an elf after inheriting a building? Why would they let Dobby run around in horrible clothes after they saved him?
@blakeverdon4492

@@otter011 In regards to Harry keeping Kreacher, not only was he a connection to Sirius (as terrible a connection he might be), but also I'd argue it would probably be pretty dangerous to set that _particular_ elf free... considering he damn near tried to attack Hermione for simply speaking to him, at least in the movie. While these aren't exactly _the best_ reasons, I think they would at least have been considered if Harry ever thought about freeing Kreacher. And who knows, he might've done so after the events of The Deathly Hallows. Idk if he was ever mentioned in the sequel play. 🤷‍♂️

Hi, I already commented this on another reactor's channel, but Harry's cloak IS a deathly hallow. That's because he's a descendant of the brother that asked Death for the cloak (you could see he was buried near Harry's parents - his surname was Peverell). There are normal invisibility cloaks, but they wear off eventually and stop working. And also, no, the philosopher's stone isn't the resurrection stone. The former makes you live longer - the latter brings back people from the dead.

Daniel, Rupert and Emma had a lot of chemistry. Nothing sexual according to them, because they basically grew up together as friend. Even the Hermione and Ron relationship was hard for Emma and Rupert because they saw each other as siblings rather than lovers. Honestly Dan and Emma probably did have more chemistry to each other than Emma and Rupert. And that coupled with Ron's lines being co-opted by Hermione didn't do Ron any favors. In the books it is explained well why Ron lost it. Ron has always had a stable home and family with his mom’s brilliant cooking. During these camping scenes, food was an issue (you can’t magically make food appear. You can increase quantities but you can’t make something new appear). the dancing scene in the tent was NOT in the book. the screenwriter for the films is a huge harry/hermione shipper and stuck it in there to spite all the ron/hermione fans. it's very annoying. other than that, though, this is up there as one of my favorites of the series. it's pretty accurate to the book overall (except for that dumb scene). and i'll never forget the first time i read the book - went to buy it at midnight the day it was released and stayed up all night reading, finally finished it around 11am, never stopping bc i just had to know what happened. put me through the wringer big time, that's for sure. edit: lol i made this comment before watching your commentary at the end of the video - nope, trust me, NONE of that tension was in the book. it was all steve kloves being a snot about his fave ship not being endgame.

This movie makes me hate them leaving out the subplot of Hermione starting an entire organization to fight for House Elf rights. It started in the fourth year and we met lots more House Elves in the books. We even got a memory from one in part 6. That’s part of what was omitted by the pointless destruction of the Burrow in part 6. We definitely had more information from Dumbledore. 🤷🏾‍♀️ but the movies are already long. Hopefully, they get more book-true in the series (they’ll certainly have the time and budget for it). Btw, your “oh naur” has melted my heart 😂

"Dobby was the purest character. All he wanted to do is protect Harry Potter"... That's basically one of the main themes of the whole story. Every one genuinely wants to protect this one kid: Hagrid, Hermione, the whole Weasley family, Neville, Luna, Lupin, Sirius, Moody, Dumbledore, McGonagall, Dobby, and of course, Snape. He's surrounded by people who just believe in him and protect him and love him.

Your difference in your dislike of Voldemort and hatred of Umbridge is understandable. Voldemort is an over the top kind of evil, very comic book villain. You can’t say there are too many people purely, unapologetically evil like that. There are a lot more people like Umbridge though. Evil hiding behind a thin veil of goodness. The hypocrisy of Umbridge makes her even more intolerable.

hermionie erasing her entire life from her parents minds was and will always be something extremely sad and pisses me off. also stupid. just because they cant remember you doesn't mean you don't still care for them. only thing that happened was them being hostages without knowing the reason why. dusley's however can be caught by death eaters. but yeah she still cares about her parents them not remembering her doesn't change that fact.

This is personally my favorite film next to Prisoner of Azkaban, when it came out it was even my #1. I think it's the best adaptation of any of the books, it had the most time to dedicate to everything that happened with the last book being split in two, so it really feels like watching the first half of the book take place on screen, with only some minor alterations, and only one scene/chapter that really stands out in my mind as being absent, and the "Life and Lies of Albus Dumbledore" subplot. But one of my biggest issues with movies 5 and 6 was their pacing and how rushed parts of them felt, especially the climaxes, and this film managed to avoid that same pitfall, so that really earned my appreciation. I also just really like the tone of the movie, it's incredibly different from the other films, since they don't go back to school and it's more of an adventure / "road" movie. Some people call it boring because of all the camping they do, but to me that just paces it out in a way that the other movies didn't have the chance to, and I don't feel like it takes away from it at all. It allows the film to focus a little more on the subtleties of how the whole situation is affecting each of the main characters and some nuance of their relationships with each other that I'm sure would have been glossed over otherwise. Reading the last book, I literally couldn't imagine them ever fitting it into a single movie; every other book there are plots and subplots that you can justify cutting but literally EVERYTHING in this book was important. If you cut just about anything, you'd lose important context. In fact, they still managed to trim parts of it enough that part 2 usually feels a bit rushed and confusing in places, especially to those who didn't read the books. Sure, this story isn't all big and flashy like some of the other ones and it ends on more of a cliffhanger than a satisfying conclusion, but it's literally just part one of a story, it would only ever end like that. I never really thought about this before, but this is basically the Empire Strikes Back of Harry Potter. It even ends with some of our heroes at or near their lowest points, and the villain at his highest.

I'm SO SATESFIED seeing how closely you're following and how fast you're catching on stuff! man GREAT JOB! I agree with you too! this movie and what it showed us is so essential before the big war begins. Dobby's death is as heartbreaking as Sirius's to me.. I mean both of them lived AND died for the sake of/being the most loyal to their dearest ones James/Harry 💔 12:53 Harry actually inherited everything from Sirius including the house and the house elf comes with it, he can't go anywhere unless being set free he's technically attached to the house he serves and its master by magic, he has no choice but to obey Harry now. Sirius had no one and no wife nor kids but Harry. He breaks my heart💔 he dedicated all his life avenging his best mate James and died protecting his son. no one was more loyal they loved each other so much😢😭 17:26 DID YOU SEE at Umbridge's door before Harry entered that was Moody's magical eye! they took it after they killed him! the order didn't even find a body to bury they took him 💔 BUT NOW IT'S GONE! Harry took it if you notice it's not on the door anymore! that's all they got to bury of Moody the greatest auror of all time 💔 25:00 OKAY there's nothing about this scene but Harry trying to make it lighter for her I swear! it wasn't meant to be anything else.. it just looked intimate because of how close they are and comfortable around each other and how Ron's disappearance is taking a toll on both of them. and then the last moment only was them realizing again after laughing for a bit that nothing was really okay so they stared at each other, it settled in so they separated again. It is SO CLEAR in the books that they NEVER EVER thought of each other romantically for a second. This scene never even happened in the book btw. I think they also put it there TO establish that they CAN'T be more than friends at the end of the day they both didn't really feel it yk. 40:25 did you see how wary he was of Dumbledore even when he's dead..

Real quick. I know I’m late to the party but this seems as good a time as any. The only reason why Harry had to go back and live with his aunt and uncle is because his aunt was a blood relative and he needed to stay with a blood relative in order to have the full protection his mom’s spell out on him. However, when he turned 17, the protection would wear off and that’s why the Dursleys had to leave. Harry turned 17 this year and no one was safe anymore
