Lottie is super excited, any day now her new baby sister is going to arrive and she can't wait to play with her. Lottie has oh so many play ideas that they can share together, like playing teachers, jumping in muddy puddles, swimming lessons, climbing trees, making a den, doing sticky arts and crafts, visiting the farm and feeding the animals. Then the day arrives and Lottie vey quickly realises that they can't do any of those fun things together, her new baby sister is so small. Lottie's imagination and expectations did not match the reality. her new baby sister also took up a lot of mummy and daddy's time. Will there ever be a day that they can play together?
A glorious heartwarming story that navigates the arrival of a new sibling with love, fun, rhyme, kindness and tenderness. This truly is the perfect book for such a situation. The feelings and expectations of the older child may not be realistic, their emotions, perspective, preparations will not be the same as the parents and this can be very confusing. This stories approach covers so much, from the child's perspective, the family dynamics changing, the mixed emotions felt and these all make for great conversation starters to support the older childs understanding of the reality of a new sibling entering the family. Readers will find the book totally relatable, fun and engaging and of course there is the realisation that all a baby does is 'poop and cry'. The illustrator has perfectly matched the story in both simplicity and expresive detail and with tenderness.
