The mustard is for the old lady. She says she’ll wait but continues moving around anyway. Mat just didn’t figure out that you have to drop everything, including the basket, to actually be able to give it to her.

This episode of Fears to Fathom might be the absolute best yet. Wonderful detail (like the computer ) and genuinely eerie. Also, the last flag was Lithuania. Also, btw, watch out for bots telling you you’ve won a prize, its a scam.
I would love to see MatPat play some games from Chilla's art they're so freaky and pretty interesting. My personal favorites are the bathhouse and night delivery. Such amazing games. Anyway keep up the awesome work team theorists! Y'all are bringing some amazing content.
Personally I actually felt this one was the scariest of the 3 chapters released so far. This one might not have had as much directly scary stuff but it did a fantastic job of keeping things super intense the entire time as little things go wrong slowly over time. You never knew what was going to happen next and it kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time.
Yeah I feel the same way... something about the story unfolding and realising the protagonist was being pursued by an ex who'd clearly been stalking him freaked me out beyond belief 😳. I think it's putting myself in his shoes and wondering how she'd been doing it, and for how long... not to mention the potential collateral of my new partner and BOY 😭. It's like... if it's just me then that f*cking sucks, but my concern for someone I care about and a sweet doggo dying by association is emotionally devastating, especially if it's because I broke up with someone, even if it was the right thing and I did nothing wrong... I'd still feel guilty 😫. (Also while home invasion and being randomly targeted while on my travels scare me, being stalked hits a whole other level of fear... if someone found me at a house I'd never been to before on the night I went there it would be so incredibly scary - because they're clearly keeping reeeally close tabs on me 😫😭)
It definitely excels in keeping tension, but my opinion is that it lends itself too much into the narrative part of itself wherein it's a person telling a story and he did things his way while the other two were definitely more "you are someone being put at risk"
Honestly I think the first is the most impactful, the other two are action based, you have to do something. The first one is realistic, calling the police and hiding
I feel it's important to mention that Mat unknowingly skipped a part of the story, when he somehow ignored the pizza guy. I feel like that's a bug, and the game was supposed to still say the "I couldn't study someone was at the door" line when he hadn't taken and eaten the pizza. So I'd strongly recommend watching another let's play of this chapter, to see what you missed in this one. Might I even recommend the youtube @IGP he's one of my personal favorites indie horror game play channels atm. Anyway, I still like Mat's playthrough, he approaches games in a very specific way, and it's fun to watch.

I find it poetic that you start in a laundromat with bleach, and end up hiding in a laundry room with bleach in it. More than that, it seemed unsafe in the laundromat, but in the laundry room, it saved you.
The fact that ask is supposed to be "a figment of Matt's imagination" and they thought and harmonize the same song is the best part of the entire episode 😜🤘
I'll be honest, I'm just here for Ash and Mat's banter. The gameplay is a nice touch, but the banter is what we're all here for. The fact that the GTLive crew has been pumping these out every 2 days is astonishing too! Don't tire yourselves! Also, as a vexillology buff, I am very proud of Mat. He was also right about African flag color schemes, and although Zambia is African, it was Guinea Bissau. Still close, only half way across the continent! Still though, congrats Mat. I got 100% personally, because I'm so intell-"Hey! Stop stabbing me with that kitchen knife, it hurts!" -🤓
I couldn't disagree more. I've stopped watching nearly half of the GTLive videos because it's all so irrelevant to what they're playing. A related conversation is welcome, but it usually has absolutely nothing to do with the video.

If you want related commentary, probably just head to the main theorist channels. Also, it's been like this for years. It's like "MatPat unfiltered" he just says whatever's on his mind.
I love how the creepy stuff only starts after you leave the store and it was perfectly foreshadowed: -Good teen but his father is upset over "Cara" -Boys in the store mention she was just there but took off when he arrived -The boys then talk about how he isn't together with her anymore which is highlighted by him obviously being in a relationship with another girl. -The responses that you can make to the talk about Cara show that the player's character is not at all happy about hearing about her Everything suggests that she's bad news. So the fact that she followed the MC back to the Carson house is really nicely setup.
Let your GFs down easy? The story was that she was into hard drugs and toxic. I don't think it was on him to let her down easy. That aside, this was a great episode. You and Ash springing into impromptu musical numbers is fantastic
for me the second was definitely the scariest, that’s probably cause as a girl the fear of being drugged/trafficked/etc. has been ingrained in me. This was def the least scary so far tho

Aww man, I would've liked to hear the banter during the pizza parrrttttt. The game prolly isn't going to let you just skip the main conflict (if that's what he thought the pizza delivery could be), and even if it did, what fun would that be? Can't outsmart Fears to Fathom, they're stories that already happened, so let loose and enjoy the pizza, y'all!
I actually thought the homeowner was going to be the bad guy. When he checked out the computer and the basement, I was sure he'd find something really incriminating. The camera setup gave me real 'life is strange' creepy professor vibes.
It's funny how watching those games several times with different youtubers make them even scarier, cuz you know where the scary part is but the youtuber doesn't and so they are stressed and it stresses you out even though you know when it's fine and when it's not lmao. I don't know why it does that

The problem with the oven being on is that you can't actually leave it on because it could kill you. Like this character should have definitely called the cops, but like they could die in their sleep overnight if you didn't address the oven, so you kind of had to go down. An electric oven can cause a fire, and a gas oven could be a fire and carbon monoxide poisoning or maybe even kaboom? EDIT: Also, as a woman, I found the motel one to be horrifying because of just everyday sexual harassment and being a victim of stalking and people who think that they're entitled to you or your body. Also, I think Jacksepticeye said these were like users stories that they submitted that were just made into a game? That just makes it extra horrifying as someone who lives with PTSD over that kind of harassment.
Well, realistically the police would have arrived within 5 minutes, so I don't think it's that bad leaving the oven on. As for me, the scariest episode was probably Home Alone, but Norwood Hitchhike is definitely a close second. Idk, something about the shadowy jumpscares really freaked me out. Lastly, I'm pretty sure rayll (the creator) uses a mix of people's stories to make his own final, realistic version.

They looked up in another GT Live because of the mechanics of that game that the national average is about 7, but it all depends on where you live. Even in a list of the top 10 cities with response time, San Francisco at #1 even averages 5.46 minutes. Which is still on average over 5 minutes. Spot #10 of Fort Worth is even already 9.5 minutes, so if those are the top cities I don't think you can actually say realistically to that number. That said, I meant it in regards to the option of going back to sleep which was one of the things in the game. Calling the police definitely would have been a better option, but apparently since this dumb dumb didn't have that cross their mind, sleeping with the oven on was definitely a no.

I agree. The fear isn't really there. I've been bothered by all the fear to fathom games not allowing things like locking the door. But I assume it has something to do with "This is how the story went." HOWEVER---if it's 1996: There was no texting. Internet was slow dial up. Google/search engines didn't really exist, Security cameras didn't hook to computers.
I don't think it was 1996 based on the timing... submitted by a 28 yo about when they were 18, so it was ~10 years ago and the texts are accurate to that time 😅. If anything, the windows xp look on the computer is a little _out_ dated haha
@stevenpina1983 Well 10 years ago, xp was still being used by some people... it stopped being available to buy in June 2008, and security updates (but not other support) were available until April 2014 - so the PC still having xp is definitely possible, especially for someone who's not so tech-savvy (like Mr Carson seems to be?)... it's plausible he didn't want to/didn't know to upgrade - and honestly with the next OS being vista, holding onto xp for as long as possible is probably better, and his son might have purposefully not helped him update it 🤣. I remember updating vista on my laptop aged 16ish and it nearly bricking it because vista was so terrible 😤. I remember distinctly not wanting vista and I think me and my dad even forced the system to roll back to/install xp instead for a while, until vista became more stable 🤔. It's not the same application, but I believe certain things like some crucial legacy systems used xp for a long time after mainstream support ended, because they can't be put at risk with a new and untested OS, and rolling over legacy systems to a new OS requires a _lot_ of work at times, because sometimes you've got to rewrite the code to transfer the utility of the legacy system to the new OS (and even then you're running them kinda in parallel for a while in case something goes wrong with the new system). However - this type of use case is an uncommon one, and would be done by someone who can either patch security updates in from newer OS updates themselves, or keep the system safe in other ways. (I even think there's a version of xp on a PC in my dad's house somewhere... on a partition of a PC, an old laptop - saved for posterity I guess? just in case, and/or a virtual machine on one of the main PCs for testing compatability and interactions between legacy systems and new ones 🤔). Although... with the PC seeming to be mainly used for the security camera system, it's quite possible that the system is a bit old and the software may only be compatible with xp, and if you've got a laptop for other things (like he has downstairs) then you're gonna just leave the security system PC alone since it only really has that task and you're not gonna be doing much browsing or working on it 🤷🏼♀️. (Sorry for the infodump, I apparently know a lot about this era of computing by association 🤣 - and living the absolute horror that was windows vista 🤬)

I can appreciate your fondness of laundromats Matt. When I was a kid, my friend and I would hang out at a small laundromat near my house. We liked to write music and movie ideas while enjoying the quiet and warmth inside.
This series is definitely unique in that we're technically not supposed to "relate" because we aren't solving a puzzle as a player, as a player we're merely experiencing something similar to what story the submitter told the devs. The reason why I think MatPat found the Home Alone story scary is because he's a control freak and when suddenly so much control is taken away from him in that situation (he has explicitly stated before that his deepest fear is a Home Invasion) he definitely feels the fear (you could say, he fathoms it). I personally found Norwood Hitchhiker to be less on the "fear" side and more on the "mystery" side because the story itself is scary but the things that happen within it are more akin to something you'd see in a scooby-doo plot (that isn't to take away from how scary it is, cause when you think about it, the stuff that happens in Scooby Doo is scary if you think about it in a real life setting). This third one is definitely leaning in more into the fact that it's a narrative rather than something that has to be scary because of how strange but weirdly realistic these circumstances are

Lol first mirror matt, and hopefully not ash; Though respectfully we have no choice in any of this but still. Ash and mirror mat, I would say, might close to the same level as jason and chris.
When I was little, my family didn't have a washer or dryer, so the laundromat was a regular stop. I honestly loved it, to the point where at school I once turned in something saying that was my favorite place to go (which I don't remember, but my parents told me about years later, because it just made them wonder what the teacher was going to think of them). No arcade cabinet at mine, but there was a toy corner / play area, I got along well with the woman who worked there (she sometimes gave me rocks for my rock collection), and if I was lucky, I would be allowed to get a can of pop from the vending machine - though I remember once instead getting a math problem about "If a 12-pack costs x, how much is each can? And how does that compare to the price in the vending machine?", and I had to reluctantly admit that no, it wasn't a very cost-effective purchase. Anyways, point is, one doesn't often hear about the laundromat being thought of as a fun place, so it's nice to know there's someone out there who feels similarly ^^
The laundromat is the same one used in Arcade Paradise which I think you would love to play, MatPat! Has Laundromat/Arcade management mixed with laundry minigames and loads of fun Arcade games to play, and an intriguing story

Does Mat really think the game is set in 1996? When the protagonist is receiving text messages on what is clearly an iPhone? And when the home computer is using Windows XP?
I decided to watch all 3 of these in a row since I enjoy watching them from just about anyone like mark or jack, and its funny to look back in home alone how they specifically mentioned housesitting being terrifying, then bam 2 episodes later they get to house sit.
I had to look this up on the time frame. I was in high school in 1996 and they do way to much texting which wasn't much of a thing as cell tech was still a little earliy. it actually takes place in 2009.
She was leaving the store when Noah arrived, but was still outside in her car when he left. When Noah looks out the window at the house, her car is parked outside.
Considering they say "based on true stories" (if they actually are or just some wording loophole) maybe it's a good thing the scary isn't so bad. I don't know about horror movies/stories that are "based on a true events" and are insanely terrifying (like 200% scary). I don't want to believe that level of spook is possible in real life.
It's actually just a marketing ploy, I saw one of the game's devs comment to clarify. These are all real stories people have submitted, as in they are stories people have sent the devs they build episode off of. But they are not 'true' stories, they are just stories.
I would like to recommend playing a nancy drew game. They are detective point and click games. I would specifically recommend the ghost of Thornton hall. It's an amazing game, and I would love to see your rection to it.😊
Always love your vids matpat, and can never go a day without either watching a new vid or re-watching an old one. Your vids also help scary games not be scary and I don't know how but I love that because I can now watch horror games that I have never been brave enough to watch.

it is horrendously scary to know that in the USA (at least on my knoledge) all houses are this open, no walls, just sometimes fences. Here in brasil this would be unthinkable. All houses have walls and sometimes even spikes/glass on said walls. I Could never sleep soundly in a house that has so little protection against invaders.
That laundromat, except the backroom, is EXACTLY the same one used in Arcade Paradise. From the signs on the walls, to the layout, to even the bus stop with the yellow stripe right across the street.
