I’m glad the format works. I like to be very in-depth, but not too much “opinion”. I often make a second or third video where I can be more opinionated
Such a beautiful, detailed review. You're a very articulate individual and you communicate all the points comprehensively and excellently. Best review of this laptop on RU-vid, period. Looking forward to your dedicated gaming test. 🥳
This was nice. I’m deciding between a bunch of laptops, and I like your cadence, your description of the target audience, and you don’t fall into the trap of hyperbole or extremes when making a judgment call on the machine. Thank you for the sanity. :)
I had the fans nearly constantly noisy on my Lenovo Ideapad 5 Pro 16 and sometimes fans running full blast without any good reason. CPU AMD Ryzen7 5800H with integrated Radeon graphics / RAM 16 Gb / SSD 512 Gb / Windows 10 I’ve now managed to get laptop most often 100% quiet by changing the following: In Advanced Power settings: 1/ Processor power management / Max processor state: reduce gradually to 99, 95, 90, 85%, etc. I’m currently on 80% 2/ Cooling policy: set to Passive (instead of Active). 3/ I have not currently changed the Boost option in the Power options. My laptop is now finally 100% quiet most of the time instead of the opposite.
@@shreeshsaurya4203My Lenovo laptop is ok. No longer the constant fans on, battery life is reasonable. In case I need support for spare part I’ll most probably go to my local pc maintenance store.
I usually don't make comments like this but I had to, because of how good this review was. No bullshit, straight to the point, I love how he said a lot of things and it all meant something too, unlike some other people who say a lot but it doesn't really amount to much, and it was more than just saying the specs of the laptop which is something I could've read myself, it was stating things that I wouldn't have known that actually matter, and I appreciate that. Keep making videos dude, you're doing something right. Thank you for your help too btw.
Great review, I am needing to upgrade my work laptop. Currently I use a surface pro and was going to upgrade to a Surface laptop 5. I love how thin, light and premium the surface laptop looks. But after finding this Slim pro 7, I am having second thoughts. In addition to every day office work I do graphic design and photo editing. I am not very familiar with AMD Ryzen processors, but it seems to preform well in this laptop. I also had spec-ed out 32 GB of ram in my Surface laptop but the 16 GB here should do the job. I also was looking at the Slim Pro 9i. It has a 16" screen and very similar specs to the 7 (but the 9i has 32GB or RAM). The 9i is documented as having some thermal issues and much lower battery time however, in order to run the additional specs. Before today I was pretty sure I was getting a surface laptop 5, but now I am a little confused after finding the Slim pro 7 ( and 9i). You seem to be a big fan of this 7 model. Would you rank it above the surface laptop 5. In Canada I can get the 7 for around $1900 and the 9i for $2900, the Surface is similar at $3000. I would really appreciate your advice.
This will obliterate any Microsoft laptops, even their best. This is 16”, If you want a 14” check out my review of the slim 7 pro 14” I dropped right before this one. These two laptops offer significantly better value than Microsoft offerings in my opinion.
@@TechGuyBeauI left this comment on the slim pro 7, but I forgot I also watched your review for the 16" slim pro 9i. Do you have a preference over these two.
@@paulflogeras2309 They sell it with 32 Gb now, too, at least now in Europe. I went for an Acer Travelmate P6, now I'm a bit thoughful... that said I don't do video editing, no game at all, so I don't need the gpu or high refresh rate... photo editing mostly don't use gpu, and CPU PhotoWorxx is better on Intel chips, the Travelmate is lighter, comes with some "weatherproofing" or whatever they call it, so I won't whine...
@@TechGuyBeau I was actually debating between this laptop and the Microsoft surface 5 laptop!! I am currently a mac book user so im pretty unfamiliar with other PC brands.
@@sashapalma3360don’t get a surface, it’s expensive for no reason. Personally the 7 pro here is similar to a MacBook Pro 14, the 9i is similar to a MacBook Pro 16” The 16, like a 16” MacBook Pro, is beautiful but somewhat heavy. If that’s okay it’s superb. Otherwise get the 7 pro. I feel like it’s more what most people want
Picked up on best buy for 899$... It is the best laptop at that price range with 16/512... My friends find it way more attractive then their Macbook Air M1 and M2 :)
just got this on sale, great review. thanks! very detailed i appreciate it. kinda sucks no micro sd slot and ram is not expandable but i'll live. that would of put this over the top for me, but the hdmi port at its size is awesome.
Your videos are amazing. I like how you don't focus on all this editing flash on your videos. You're very raw and give great honest opinions. Also this laptop is insanely good judging by reviews.
In Norway many of these have matte anti-glare screen coating. Have had a few models in the yoga series the past 7 years and they are solid devices. Big bang for the buck. Recommended.
Thanks for the review...there is a lot to love with this laptop. Unfortunately the super reflective screen is a showstopper for me..especially at 350nits. I wish there was a matte screen option at 400 nits...then we'd be in business.
thank you for this thorough review. just want to ask if this is good for 3d modelling and rendering? and any other 3d works? the 3d designs im making will just be 1080p. and mostly 3-5 minute clips
you mention being able to deactivate the iGPU but i am not quite sure how to do it. is it a BIOS setting, or is it something that you can access through lenovo vantage as well? i am interested because it seems like having it deactivated would help the battery life quite a bit. awesome review, i had already gotten the laptop as a gift and am happy to see that i am not the only one pleased with it.
Thank you for the review! Did you run any tests comparing fan noise/performance on the different performance modes? Really appreciated that info from some of your other reviews :)
I've been looking for a laptopt to buy for over a year now and this one looks like the one I would love. Going to buy one when it becomes available in a few weeks here. Has the 4050 + 7840hs which is great! Not sure if it is the exact same laptop name wise as lenovos naming scheme sucks but everything else seems to be the exact same compared to the 3050 7735 model Price is 1500€ which is really good value. I bought my current laptop 3 years ago and it cost 1500€ too but it has mx250 graphics, 1080p, not perfectly color accurate screen which is not bright enough, gets really hot when on load
The 3050 6gb and 4050 6gb are quite similar. Two different gpu offerings with similar results. The 7840hs is the new cpu offering whereas this has last years 7735hs. The model you are getting will be the same, but better overall
@@TechGuyBeau Yes and I love the 4050 instead of 3050 cause it runs much better at lower wattages! The pricing in interesting cause the 3050 model with 7735 cost 100€ more here vs the 4050 7840hs model and I genuinely don't know why
Hi. How did you get to the Overclocking option? I've just purchased the same model (14ARP8) and can't find it. Looks like your in the "Devices" category but I can't see any option to overclock from there. Thanks!
I have been searchinh for a laptop for over 2 months now which has a great battery life and will last me 4-5 years during my college. I wasn't able to find one which could do both and was also semi-affordable. This seems like an amazing laptop in every way even though I dont need a dedicated GPU since the amd integrared ones are so good. Do you think this is a good pick for me considering how long this will last for and comparing it to other laptops in the same price segment without a dedicated gpu? Great video btw and thanks a lot.
This is a very legit laptop. The cpu is basically a 6800h, which will be good for 4-5 years. The 3050 6gb will ensure you can do some casual gaming during that time too Basically this is a really superb laptop to get you through uni
Hello, i just bought the laptop, i believe i havw the same version of you but i cannot get any of the battery life estimates anywhere bear what your getting, when testing were you on 60hz ot 90hz? Max i see for me is like 4.5 hours at max charge just browsing and RU-vid.
I was wondering how come does your model have 7735HS, when the only model I was able to find in Canada (83AW0000US) includes 7840HS? I bought it, so can't wait to take it for a spin! Love your videos and in-depth reviews, hi from fellow RFD-er!
PSRef reveals that they are different models? 14ARP8 (yours) and 14APH8 (mine). Former is nowhere to be found on their storefront anymore. Interesting stuff, hope 7840HS gives this already great laptop a nice little boost without hurting the battery life too much.
It was a review unit, but the new one has the 7840hs That’s a HUGE win. I’m in love with the 7840hs. So it’s a no brainer. I almost bought this last week… I’m still tempted
I can't decide between this and legion 7😅 Wanted a 16 inch screen for more real estate but don't really need that much power as I don't see myself gaming too much Edit: only turn off for me is the numeric keypad on the legions prefer the minimalist layout on this one.
I loved the 2022 model but the fans always turned on when watching RU-vid so I sent it back. Ended up with a Surface Laptop which has no fan noise during web/office/video and the keyboard is even better in my opinion.
I just bought it with matte screen. It is really nice model...but the fan is midly running all the time, starts in about half minute after power-up. It reminds me the sound of classic HDD. It is the same in idle doing nothing, web browsing, YT watching etc. It is only slightly increasing with mild tasks, but it does quite a lot with heavy loads (as expected). I tried to get rid of the low load fan noise: updated BIOS, drivers, limited max CPU clock down to 50%, experimented with Lenovo fan modes and Windows power/battery modes. My CPU temperature in Idle is around 38-40°C (quite low for fan to continue running IMO). Nothing helped...it looks like it is inherent to the laptop design and how Lenovo controls fan here. Looks like there is no solution. So I will probably return it. I wouldn't buy it if I knew it cannot do anything without fan being on.
@@maquark Do you remember the exacts specs, CPU, RAM, display versions? It's weird how most tests agree on low noise, also good battery life, yet many users (not everyone though) complain about 3-4 hours only with basic tasks, and fan almost always on...
@@maquarkthis is very much done deliberately by Lenovo. I don’t own a Lenovo laptop that doesn’t have its fans run all the time. My Ideapad gaming 3 (i5-12500H, 3050 Ti), Legion 7 gen 7 AMD Advantage, and Yoga Pro 7 (3K 120hz, 3050 6GB) all have the same thing going on. However it never crossed me as being that much of a nuisance, simply because the fans sound very pleasant unlike literally every ASUS laptop I’ve bought (and returned).
Nice video, have you tried using the laptop for work? Mine using Yoga Pro 9, when I start opening office (outlook, excel, power point) the windows animation start lagging and it annoyed me
No issues there, it’s quite quick. Check that your drivers are updated in vantage, and windows is update. Also check your power plan so you are on balanced or performcnd
Should I get this one or the Ideapad pro 5i gen 8(16", intel processor, 2023)? It comes down to the reliability of the device, quality control and thermals. Screen size is not that important for me.
In the Lenovo vantage software select hybrid iGPU That will disable the dedicated graphics out rate. Hybrid mode will decide to flip back-and-forth but I find it sometimes still turns on, so igpu hybrid is what you want
Do you think it’s worth upgrading from from the asus vivobook 15.6” s 15 S5504VA-BN290W i5 13500H 16GB 512GB to the Intel i7 13700H version of the Yoga Slim Pro ?
I short listed 3 models of Lenovo laptops, but need your professional advise. I’m considering this Slim Pro 7, Yoga Pro 7/7i (Gen 8) and IdeaPad Pro 5 (Gen 8), but I read some negative reviews about the fan noise for Ideadpad Pro 5 and do not know whether it’s true. Which model do you think is better to purchase? Much appreciated.
@@TechGuyBeauThanks for your reply. Yoga Pro 7 Processor is AMD Ryzen 7 7840HS, and 7i is Intel Core i5-13500H. Both memory are 16GB. Should I consider AMD than Intel Core?
Do you remember if the laptop hade a charges battery when unboxing or did you have to connect power cord? ….mine was dead, needed power cord. I am worried a drained battery is damaging battery.
@@TechGuyBeau Thank you for the answer! Bad part of the purchase is that it doesn't come with an OS. Maybe ill reuse one from an old laptop, if thats possible.
I this more powerful than the lenovo legion go? Just in the specs. I know the lenovo legion go is a handheld but I am just wondering because it is on sale right now. What do you recommend to get.?
Just got this and I was wondering how does your webcam shutter button on the right side work? Mine was stuck tight and when I used little more force with my fingers, it made a click sound and it’s loose now where it slides up and down while tilting the laptop. Also, the white color is not a true white for me on this laptop- there is a orangish hue
Slim pro 7 is this years. Better gpu (3050 6gb), and better cpu (7845hs). Slim pro x is last years (3050 4gb, and 6800h). This years model is a big jump in performance
This one You can get 1. 3050 refresh with more vram 2. 7840hs (much better cpu) It basically smashes the asus in all regards. Also it can be had for a good price
Can you please provide a update on battery life with irl use. Ill be going to uni soon for electrical engineering and am debating between this laptop and the mbp 14". I am really liking this laptop givin it meets most of my parameters. Display, battery and ports
Just got mine, but work hasn't started yet so I'm mostly at home plugged in. I tested it with 60hz 60% brightness, enhanced cooling on vantage with balanced setting on windows. was getting 8hrs reported by the vantage widget.
@@therainbowpoopp interesting, that's alot less than what I was expecting. I thought I'd get 9hrs on normal browsing and document usage at 90hz at like 60% brightness
@@rjunmehta Take it with a grain of salt. Will be monitoring it once work starts and I use it for a longer period of time. Oh! I was also starting at around 85-88% if it helps.
@@therainbowpoopp PLEASE, please keep me updated. Will be purchasing my laptop in a month so need to make sure, cause this is a heavy financial investment for me
@@rjunmehta Hi. After a few days these are my settings Max res 90 hz Lenovo setting: power battery setting: balanced 70-80% brightness PDF reading and light browsing I'm getting around 1 hour per 10% which gives me 9 hours. I could stretch it to 10-11 of continuous use. Putting laptop to sleep drains it about the same rate. So if you don't plan on using it right away i suggest putting it in hibernate or shut it down
nice and thin, but for my liking this will hinder performance a little bit too much. The regular legion models have significantly better cooling design, i'd go with that instead.
I am Looking to purchase the slim pro 7 model with the AMD Ryzen 7 7735HS and rtx 3050 graphics card equipped with 512gb storage. Device is going for $899 at Best Buy. Am I getting a really good device that will last me for some time?
Very different. This is much slimmer, and the 3050 is a bit weaker. The loq has a better cpu too. The loq has an inferior screen to this and is bulkier, in my option get the slim
I am getting a whopping 2 hours right out of the box just scrolling on google. I followed all the RU-vid tutorials to maximize battery and nothing helped.
It definitely needs some type of bios update. I suspect that Lenovo will put something up unfortunately until then battery life is not great. In the meantime I’d recommend going into the bios and ensuring that switchable graphics is on, you can also make sure that startup programs are limited. One thing that I typically do is I go into “gaming” settings, and you can choose which GPU your programs will run on. Unfortunately windows is not very smart and will often programs to your Nvidia GP I often have to do this for my browsers that will refuse to use integrated graphics regardless of the laptop. The browser gaming mode switch might help a lot
Hi im new to this. Can someone explain the whole GPU overclocking bit? What did he mean that the dedicated graphics will be disabled if its not cranked?
@@CriispyWaffle just leave it on. Won’t harm anything and will only be used when needed. Typically your nvidia graphics will switch off when not in use anyways
I won’t really make a difference. And extensive testing there’s almost no difference between 85 W on 115 W on a 4060. So extrapolating from the difference between 85 and 100 is negligible
When I saw this laptop in person it felt cheaply built in my opinion. The keyboard seemed to have too much flex, the trackpad has a hollow/cheap sounding click, and the screen slightly wobbly (albeit this may be bc it was a display unit). When I think of amazing build quality I think of the lenovo yoga 920-13ikb which is my current laptop. Quite old now but still holding up as if it were day one. Was hoping this laptop could replace my 920 but I think I may have to keep looking. Amazing review nonetheless, thank you for the information!
@@bertjedekat No USB 3 does NOT support Thunderbolt. Sorry I made a typo in my previous post saying it has USB 4... at least where I live I can only get Yoga Slim/Pro 7 with USB 3. Need to check for each model, that may change soon.
This is why I don't pay attention to reviews! Battery is not good! I bought this computer and it is going back! This guy must be getting paid for this review.
Ah yes… the unpaid shill. I show battery use. You probably have loads of bloat and crap running. Sounds like atomistic fallacy to me. I’m using this laptop as my potable option (which I paid for), and I get 8+ hours. You can’t just buy a laptop and then assuming everything will work. You have to debloat all the windows crap, stop startup programs. To me it seems like you need to do a little more research about windows 11 before pointing fingers my dude 😅
Not even an OLED, why would i pick it over my asus. Don't care about the metal body. In fact, don't like the weight that comes with it. And super slim, so what? Not clear what price it would come at.
Because it’s more powerful and has more expansion, with better cooling. Very difference devices. Asus oleds are nice, but inferior in raw performance and cooling. (And build) I like asus OLED but they are also massively overpriced. If they drop their price by 30-40% it’s a good buy.
@@TechGuyBeau No, asus is definitely priced better. 6800H and RTX 3050 with 2.8k OLED 16GB and 1TB NVME, selling at $969 on Amazon right now. Forget about the Lenovo.
