She gets hate because she looks different from other idols, she is tanned, curvey and shows it off, people are threatened by her for setting new beauty standards in Korea, but at the same time she is super loved in Korea because of that I don't care attitude! She is queen!
hwasa receives a ridiculous amount of hate on the daily. it’s really really disgusting and sad :( so this song is about her reminding herself that she is still beautiful no matter what people say about her! i’m so proud of her
Regarding the scene on the table: People there are wearing that on their heads in a way of trying to portray "keyboard warriors" (anonymous if you know them) and if you look closely they are eating keyboards. Hwasa wanted to portray how her antis are always talking about her 24/7 but they end up eating their words because in reality they all listen to her music, follow her, etc. Kinda ironic right? The scene where the pens are "attacking" her is also to point out how the media keeps writing about her and insulting her for being herself, which kinda made her mad/crazy (thus she is in that room) Hwasa has a lot of haters so this along with other songs of her album which she wrote and composed are diss tracks.
hwasa said in an interview she loves making sad songs that are upbeat because she thinks they describe the complexity of her life very well. you’ll find that twit is the same way-very sad but upbeat and catchy!
Hwasa wrote and composed "María" just like 5/6 songs from her mini album. She also wrote the scenario for this MV. She's super talented so please support her.
my theory about the whole brain scene is that since hwasa gets endless amounts of hate for the way she looks, she’s representing the way haters sort of “eat her mind” with their cruel words. the lyrics sort of tell this same things too. luckily in the chorus she reminds herself to love herself!
maría is hwasa’s baptist (christian) name, so that’s why the song and album are called maría. that’s also why she’s seen in a baptism tub in several parts of the mv! whenever she says maría she’s talking about herself :)
And to herself. She tells herself why are you doing this and that (I think she refers to dieting because she talked about this before on 'I Live Alone") then she adds "You're already beautiful though" This song is so sad and so beautiful and empowering at the same time
hwasa actually came up with the storyline for the music video, and she composed and wrote the lyrics for this track (as well as most of the tracks on her mini album!), she's absolutely a multi talented queen!
hwasa’s name can be written both as hwasa and hwa sa. it’s just that in ‘hwasa’ the two syllables are put together and in ‘hwa sa’ they’re devided. but both are fine
I got into MAMAMOO for the past 3 months and I regretted existing for 21 years and I just decided to stan them this year what a shame. It's also because of Hwasa she's my queen as well. I so love Hwasa in so many ways. I've never been so passionate on loving a person as much as I am loving this woman what a Queen she is.
MAMAMOO are true artists!! Hwasa writes and even helps produce her own songs. She truly did amazing with her comeback single and her whole EP. She receives a lot of hate from antis and specially the media just for breathing, they can't stand the fact that she doesn't fit their stereotypes of what an idol should loook like and behave and still she is loved and succesful. The more they critizise her for doing something she comes back next time and does it "worse" she just doesn't care what people say about her and it's so inspiring to watch. I love her as an artist and as a person. Can you believe someone told her she was fat and not pretty enough to be succesful even though she had a good voice?? Someone told her that when she was just a teen f*ckng a*s! And look at her now LOOK AT HER NOW! THE WOMAN SHE IS! Please Sammy get more into MAMAMOO's personalities you're gonna be truly amazed about how these women are a role model for a lot of people.
I love these kind of people who don't let insecurities get the best of them, who fights back society's opinions, and who listen to those worth listening to
I read somewhere that " Hwasa said Maria is the crystallized tears and sweat that she shed. The MV starts with a crime scene, Hwasa is dead and people are still trying to take some shots of her. A red hair Maria (an alter ego after Hwasa baptismal name) is watching the scene careless. Hwasa funeral, only empty chairs with unopened invitation on it and with back turned chairs, nobody cares like she says in the lyrics. Here an homage to the most beautiful and powerful scene in Malena movie, with all those men offering their lighter to her. Malena is the most beautiful woman of a SMALL village (it can be a comparison to South Korea restricted mentality), because of her looks and her solitary state, she is an object of lust for all the town's men and of hatred for its women... after many vicissitudes and a very hard time she understood that her beauty is her salvation. So she cuts her black hair and dyes it red changing her attitude as well. We can clearly see a difference between Hwasa and Maria, both in outfits and attitude. In the table scene we can see a bloodstained Maria with rubber boots and a pretty simple outfit at a table with people all dressed up, they're keyboard warriors. Again lyrics "You all worked hard hating. If you knock me down. Does that feed you?" She's serving them with all sort of things. The table is full with jewels, trove of tapes, mics, cds, diamonds. but they're just looking at those picky. Maria with a bored face is watching them and then she starts happily eating a brain. Then we see them with with covered heads eating what seems like keywords from a keyboard meaning they're just there to criticise her. The difference among Maria and those people is so strong and impactful. I've also read that eat someone's brain means pester someone (or she could be eating a heart i am not sure) The triangular tub is also interesting, she's bathing in milk and rose petals like a Queen and her skin is so white, but once again she looks bored and then she starts to make 'no ' gesture with her finger with a smirking face. Like 'l don't need to be pale, I'm beautiful like this' . probably a references to all hateful comments she gets about her bronze skin since ages. We're back to Hwasa, she's trapped like in a mental hospital with a straitjacket, all her body is constrained by laces .this once again can be interpreted as the restricted South Korea mentality. They're monitoring her pencils (comments) are pointed at her and she is trying to escape from this kind of net (network) until she finds a crown with diamonds and nails (representing the double faces of success). Ink-stained hands Hwasa decides to wear the crown, She got ink on her hands while fighting malicious comments, in fact we can see her beating her fists on the around and shouting The triangular tub is back but this time we can see Maria and Hwasa looking at each other through a bloody water. A triangle is a figure linked to different trinities like mind, body & spirit; past, present & future; thought, feeling & emotion and creation, preservation and destruction. And, personally, all those fit this MV perfectly. And now we discover Hwasa was not dead at all. Like it was all a dream, in fact she's on a coach with scissor in her hands, she is alone with her thoughts when suddenly Mamamoo members appear with big smiles. She said many times Mamamoo are her strength and she was able to face difficulties since trainee period only because they were together. The whole lyrics are beautiful and powerful but sad at the same time. She said this is an exciting yet sad song, she likes those kind of songs because they resemble life. She co-wrote and co-composed 4 songs out of 6 of this album. an amazing album with powerful collaborations, a Queen like always.
sis, our queen can pull off a SWEARPANTS, in a mv. like are you kidding me? she doesnt need any designer to be stand out. like her visual is already enough.
Actually Hwasa received a lot of hate because she "did not fit at the korean beauty standards" (what a bullshit, she's just PERFECT) but she found her place and broke all this with her voice
I put this comment on the video and i'm gonna put it again. Hwasa is that kind of woman that have the power of change re world and twisted it in a minute if she likes to... Too much queen👑
she wrote the lyrics herself, which have a deeper meaning but the lyric video does it no justice ): she seems to be opening up with this song! she also composed this song herself, AND wrote the story board for this music video :) queen indeed

She co-wrote and co-composed 4 songs out of 6 of this album…an amazing album with powerful collaborations, a Queen-like always.
Hwasa always puts great messages into her music, if you haven’t seen it yet I would recommend watching the LMM music video/lyrics. It such a good song off her album. 🥺
Pay attention to the lyrics... She's talking about the shaming that goes on with in the industy and how it can destroy one's self esteem. [Intro] La-li-le-lu-lai, la-la-li-le-lu-lai La-li-le-lu-lai, la-la-le-lu-lu-lai La-li-le-lu-lai, la-la-li-le-lu-lai La-li-le-lu-lai, la-la-le-lu-lu-lai La-li-le-lu-lai, la-la-li-le-lu-lai La-li-le-lu-lai, la-la-le-lu-lu-lai [Verse 1] I’ve been criticized so much, I have indigestion But even if I’m upset, what can I do, I do Everyone’s trying so hard to hate me If they break me down Does it feed them? [Pre-Chorus 1] I’m lonely, what do I do? So I swallowed up even the hate I have no strength to get mad No time either What is so upsetting for you? Just go on your way What’s wrong with everyone [Chorus] Maria, Maria I’m saying this for you It’s a shining night Don’t torture yourself Oh Maria, I’m saying this for you Why are you trying so hard You’re already beautiful
I love how you predicted MAMAMOO joining Hwasa in the MV lol Speaking of saturation, you definitely should check out MAMAMOO - Paint Me, this song is incredible and in the MV they used different saturation very creatively, I think you'd really like it :)
Hey! I wanted to let you know that Taylor Swift shot a music video at the same abandoned mall that BTS shot the Black Swan Art Film. Taylor also shot another MV at the place where BTS shot the Black Swan MV for a song called Delicate! Please react to them! Thank you for a new reaction!
you shuld react to "orbit" hwasa vibes in that song are totaly different! orbit is basically an ost she sang for a kdrama but the song is too gooodddd!
Hwasa really said vocal and visual queen, she is such an icon and the chorus is soooo good! Another artist Sunmi dropped a new song, please check her out in the future!!
react to their immortal songs medley the vocals are crazy .Hwasa also has solo called twit and another one called be calm, Wheein solo easy, goodbye,Solar solo Spit it out , moonbyul solo eclispe, selfish
"Maria" could have been Hwasa's alter ego. Hwasa probably turn to "Maria" for strength. From the lyrics, she was highlighting her struggles being judged and haters wanting to see her break down and cry. Idk, just my opinion.
Please react to Kidding by Hwasa it is such an interesting song, also Hwasa killed this Album, like how can someone be this talented and beautiful, plus kind????
