I fully understand your decision mate, its really hard to keep up being a RU-vidr, having a job and also family with kids, specially during christmas times. Take care of your family, it will always come first in priority and people who appreciate you will also accept and understand that! Don't be sorry, we are all humans :) Cheers
Got to 2nd what SweViver said. It's a tough balancing act. I did a daily VR news show for just over a year I missed maybe 2 episodes. Along the way like Tribal I missed family events that I won't ever get back. :( Now I have a better balance thanks to Patreon and a more reasonable schedule (2x per week VR news show) and then 1 to 2 misc (VR gaming or tutorial etc) so really 3 to 4 vids per week MAX instead of the 7 to 14 i was doing :( So yes highly recommend scaling back to prevent burnout and not end up with a spouse contacting a lawyer!
Dude, you aren't a bad person wanting to be a good father nor for wanting a little work-life balance. You've earned that by working hard and proper adulting. I respect you, man. The world could use A LOT more gamer dad's.
Family Always comes First You never get back the time, your going to be so glad you realised this. Now go ice-skating and have fun, we'll all still be here for you' As for the 8hrs editing, don't bother, loved it when you first started, it was more real :-)
Do what you need to do mate, family comes first. Don't feel bad, be with your fambo and feel good. We'll still be here when you publish videos. You don't owe us anything.
Keep being awesome Tribal. I don't watch your videos very often, but I always enjoy them when I do. I can't imagine having a full time job and trying to do RU-vid and also having family at the same time. I just don't think I could juggle all that.
Don't let this RU-vid stuff get in the way of you and your family. Do what you you gotta do buddy.

Yay, a fellow Brandon Sanderson fan. Definitely do what you feel is important. Many high profile RU-vidrs do it as a full time job so taking that on with a job and family would be understandably difficult.
no problem tribal :) enjoy your kids. you have a job, you earn money. Never forget that at this point, youtube is a hobby for you. in the future it can become a job, but at this point in time it's still a hobby. its good that you warn your patreons though :p
Definitely nerded out over the T-Shirt! :D Happy Holidays from up north! Take care of yourself, your videos are awesome and have definitely had an impact on my career in VR. Cheers!
Totally correct train of thought. Make the time for your family and a work life balance. You are on the cutting edge and about to have a massive breakthough. Keep chasing your dreams Jesse. There are others out there on your same vibration.
Hey brother, huge respect. No matter what society tries to tell you, children with a loving father who's present will always do better than a rich father who's too busy to play house. That's true success... not subscriber numbers.
It's awesome that you have the mindfulness to realize you need to scale back. I've seen RU-vidrs and streamers alike burn out hard and end up with psychological problems. Keep up the good work (even if it's less) and don't let the fun slip out of your hobby. Thanks for everything!
There's nothing to apologize for, and take it from me, if you let those sacrifices continue they keep continuing and it gets harder to come back to a healthy place. Much applause for your self awareness!
I found and have been watching a lot of your videos the last few weeks (in preparation for getting a vive myself). This video though... it really escalated the respect I have for you. Mostly for the Brandon Sanderson fanboying, but a little bit for the family values too :0p. Remember, people don't only watch you because of what you create, but also because of who you are. Stay true.
You are blessed with a wonderful family, a talent for technology and an affinity for sociability. You know what's best for you, and I'm very impressed you recognized these things so quickly for yourself. I'm sure your family has been endlessly supportive, and they would sacrifice more to let you pursue happiness. If I can ever help you in any way, you know what my skills are and they are lent to you for anything you need. Congratulations on that wonderful feeling of having too much awesome, and I look forward to you balancing The Force once more. :D
I don't know how long a quick chat video like this takes but I would love if you could semi-regularly do unchoreographed 'snapshots' kind of like this giving an overview of whatever VR thing is on your mind. Overall you are absolutely making the right choice here.
Your life is your own. Your kids and family are without a doubt the most important thing that you will ever have in this world. Chose them first over everything. RU-vid should never stand in the way of that. So I agree 100% I believe theirs a way you can work youtube around your life. If content "suffers" because of it, then so be it.
Mrbloodgaming here. I have been watching since the pre Vive release date. You are still my go to guy for VR content. Take your time and do what you need to do. Family is important and RU-vid is just a hobby. I completely understand your decision and support you 100 percent. Anyone who doesn't understand in a situation such as this is selfish. Sending good vibes your way my friend. Stay safe!
Jesse, I have done the same (not for RU-vid, but for work). I have already lost two families as a result of my drive for work. So now it is for peace, serenity, and family. Hell, I even took my VR rig down and haven't touched it in a few months. I just found out that a RU-vidr I was watching, for Educational reasons, died back in the summer, before I even started watching. It made me think, his content is still relevant so he is still living on through his videos, but in a year probably not. But, friends and family will show more appreciation and less criticism for the whole of your life. You are right, it is about the journey, not the destination. As one of the people that you have personally helped, provided education and inspiration to... I applaud you. I will see you in the streams...eventually.
All my favorite content creators have good communication with their viewers. I have a lot of respect for your openness and I'm hoping to catch some live streams. I've played with you in the past on live streams and no video you release will give me the entertainment and happiness that getting my butt kicked by you in VR gives me. Make RU-vid revolve around your life not the other way around.
Good decision on family first. I'm sure the average person wouldn't judge you negatively for that. It would be more concerning if you put RU-vid over your family. Have you thought about hiring someone to edit your videos? If they take 4-8hours to edit, depending on how much you value your own time, it may still be an economically viable option? Editing is always the least fun part of making videos anyway. Imagine if you no longer had to do that part and could just enjoy the fun stuff without having to worry about all the hours needed editing before you can release the final video. Maybe worth considering.
Get Revved I was literally just about to comment about this. I'm taking all kinds of editing courses right now so I can become an editor and give up the HVAC life. Just finished my associates and not sure if I want to be a programmer editing is more fun in my opinion. Anyway, tribal hit me up in the dm let's talk business.
How interesting. This is the second video from an 18K subscriber channel (the other was Fried Eggs Golf) that I've seen recently, where the creator said almost exactly the same thing. So the low 5-digits in RU-vid subscribership must be the critical point where you're having to put in a TON of effort, but the payout doesn't seem to be there.
You may have a point there. With this many people, I feel like I /NEED/ to keep pushing however its far from a point where I could realistically even consider a future in it full time.
Well, if it's any consolation, this is not unlike the dilemma faced by most entrepreneurs. Put in more effort, and if it pays off then you're better for it down the road. However, if it doesn't, then you've squandered a lot of time that could have been better spent elsewhere. From my own experience, I can tell you this much. I am married and have six children. I started two businesses in the past couple of decades, and both of them were marginally successful, but not so much so that I didn't have to keep working a regular job. In the end, I game up my business endeavors and went corporate. Now, I work a fraction of the hours for twice the pay, BUT my destiny is no longer in my own hands. I've experienced an out-sourcing and a buyout. In both cases, I was fortunate enough to be one of the critical people, so my job was secure. I know the next downsizing is always just around the corner, but for now at least, I'm able to spend a lot more time with my family. Good luck!
Work smarter, not harder! 😄. Make sure your life/work balance is just that, balanced. Good luck, your content is great so keep going just adjust how you achieve it. Family first!
Some quick content could just as easily be the uploads of your live streams. There’s man people like myself who can’t always make the live streams due to time constraints. Don’t burn yourself out.
I'm where you'll be in 20 years!!! Regretting that I didn't spend more time with my wife and children. I worked 2 jobs so we could have a few extra goodies, when what I needed to be doing was enjoying what we had, and my family!!! Water under the bridge, my wife and I have been married for 30 years, both children through college, and I'm wondering where all the time went... Go enjoy your family, and do youtube when you have time... We'll still be here :-) God Bless, and Merry Christmas :-)
You always need to put your family, job, and happiness before doing youtube. Although I never want you to stop and I want even more content from you, I would rather wait and have "worse" content then for you to miss out on family time or other necessary things like that. Just remember that youtube isn't forever while family is. Hope you have a good day!
The internet and gaming plus you tube is here 24/7 , so yes family and work duties first. The you tube and games will be here allways. GG i am sure you make the right decisions.
Reality, is just like virtual reality, but with the added bonus of having really cool graphics, with the best physics. The story drags out too long, and the day and night cycle take a long time, but other than that, reality is where you need to be!
*Mentions Brandon Sanderson* I immediately liked this video. But seriously, thanks for expressing your thoughts, we all understand. Do what you need to do!
Patreon sorta complicates things, I wanted to say "you do you, you owe us nothing", but then patreon supporters might think differently.... with that said, family is important and you focus on what you need to. Most people will understand and those who don't can just cancel their subscription.
