My mother is good friends with David and Normand, THe house is a great spot and her garden is always awesome every year. Really stoked for you to enjoy the space while they are in Africa.
You lead the most interesting life. Partially because you are keen to explore, and partially because of your positive attitude. Thanks for taking us along. It's been particularly good during Pandemic isolation.
Ah, my friend's grandparents used to live there in the '60s and '70s as they were caretakers for Brockton Oval. I've been there many times! Thank you for showing this! Brings back memories.
I love how they could judge your character just from your videos and meeting your parents (and your filming / meeting them once). The camera sees all. Enjoy!!
BIG WARNING! YOU SHOWED THE DOOR KEYS PATTERN SO HES NOW AT RISK OF BREAK AND ENTER/INTRUSTION! PAY FOR HIS NEW KEY SET, LIKE THE GOOD GUY YOU ARE. PEACE. MISTAKES HAPPEN.
Makes sense to me that David and Normande would pick you Mike to watch over things while they are away. I hope to experience the 9 o'clock gun sometime in 2022....Vancouver looks like a great place to visit. Helps to have a cool local tour guide.
The first time I visited Stanley Park several decades ago, I knew nothing of the 9 o'clock gun, so almost "jumped in the drink" when it went off - quite the scare! LOL.
Stanley Park is one of the most beautiful parks within a big city. I have visited several times and have come to the conclusion that the most beautiful cities of the world are on water. When I saw the title of this vlog, I knew it must be this house. ( I enjoyed when we previously met David etc.) You reveal new talents - splitting into 3 or 4. Your curiosity and your joy in the discovery of places and people will always serve you well and keep you forever young.
Cities were historically built on water (port cities...there used to be no other way to get from continent to continent/country to country). Most major cities in the "New World' are colonial but you'll find old world cities are also along waterways.
@@therebex23 I was born and raised in northern Idaho (Sandpoint on Lake Pend Oreille - pronounced Ponderay - 50 miles to border)I have lived in Cincinnati since "71. (southwest corner of state on Ohio River) and our 7 bridges all cross into Kentucky. Founded in 1788 - because of it's easier access by river- it was one of our countries larger cities up to 1950. The recent census shows for the first time in many years the city (proper) is gaining pop. Once ugly and not easily accessible in many areas outside of boat landings, the last 50 years has seen the gradual reclaiming and development of the riverfront on both sides of the river. Turning water and so much of the old into it's biggest assets. At 2.1 mil - 2nd only to Cleveland on Lake Erie (2.3 mil) - City is once again vibrant and growing because of its location on water and old world charm.
I'm in West Tennessee, and for some reason I keep being drawn toward Vancouver... Gotta go visit I guess... Well Mike, I'll gonna watch every day for 31 days... Thanks Brother... Good job and I'll be praying you have a great time... God Bless 🙂
You really hit the jackpot on this 'job.' This would be my dream spot; I'm a gardener. This lovely couple has a really beautiful garden; big responsibility, Mike. I think you're up for it. I hope you are not staying there alone; what a romantic spot.
You’re the best , explaining everything in details and making us feel like we’re with you on your travels. Such a cool guy you are Mike! Enjoying your videos so far. Glad I found your channel. 🇵🇭🇺🇸 From Jacksonville Florida USA
Love this. I was friends with the Waine's daughter when I grew up in Vancouver. I would visit this house quite often and it was always nice to have a place to park for free! It was great to see inside it again after all these years.
You never cease to amaze us!! Vancouver is such an interesting place with literally hundreds of things to do. Your job is cut out for you Mike!! Keep 'em coming! 😉😉😉
Wow! Stanley Park, such a beautiful location. The people and places of Vancouver are absolutely wonderful! I've only been there twice (last time was 26 years ago). It left a positive and very lasting impression on me. What a fun, unique and cherished honor for you to be the keeper for a month. I look forward to your future videos on said subject!
Oh my goodness!! What a treasure, what an honor to be the keeper! Loved everything about this video! I can not wait for all the other adventures in Stanley Park! Thanks for sharing such an amazing adventure!
I live in the Lower Mainland, have for almost 50 yrs and I didn't know there was a house in Stanley Park!! And I LIKE it! I may have noticed the house when walking to the totem poles but I've only been in Stanley Park a few times, and didn't remember, if I did notice.
I love British Columbia!🤗❤️😘 You are a really likeable person. You did a phenomenal job respecting the home and their privacy! Class act! 🤗 Thank you look forward to more great adventures! I lived as a kid outside Quesnel. To me B.C is heaven on earth! 😊
I found it hilarious when I realized Mike probably knocked on the washroom doors twice, to place the camera and then go in to record it! :D. But in all fairness, the effort to record this video, splice the scenes together is rewarding. :)
grew up in vancouver and recently moved away. only now am I truly realising how beautiful the city (both landscape and people) really is, and missing it more each day!
Wow! I was born in Vancouver, raised in the west end, and have never heard of this house! If I’d known I would’ve been on that list for the last few decades!
no matter how much you post Stanley Park, I never get tired!! it must be an expercience to enjoy the raining sound in this best park and just living by yourself..
This was beyond awesome and I loved Normmande's garden. Vancouver and Stanley Park are definitely on my destination list once everything gets better. Keep up the great work Mike!
The best thing about this video is that i saw you (mike) filming this and talking to David on the front porch well riding my bike through Stanley Park.
Over the years I've made several trips from the US to Vancouver BC. I always managed to find something I'd never seen before. I think the most interesting was a cricket match, a game I still can't figure out.
Wow, what an amazing place. Also, the editing was top drawer. You are such a good storyteller and you bring things to life instead of merely listing events or places. Thank you for binging us all along with you.
Stay cool, Maybe pop into Under the stars and get a tour of the theatre? I know the shows are canceled, but a tour of the theatre might be ok on video? You landed on a good gig! Congrats!
There is an even better short-cut to get to the house: In the park, after the Rowing Club building, follow the left turn sign at the Coal harbour concession, for the Aquarium and other amenities. After the Aquarium follow the parking lot, stay right, down the slope right to your place, next to the Brockton Oval. What a privilege you got to stay there. There is another vintage modernist A-frame at Second Beach, but is now the Ranger's office.
Definitely one of my favorite channel. Your content is always authentic and awesome! Keep up the great work Mike and I'm looking forward to your next videos as always! 😀
This is awesome! I remember this house from your earlier video. I am so glad that they are enjoying a vacation and that they choose you to house-sit. I know that you will have an awesome time! Looking forward to the next video.
Just started watching your Channel, and I really like all of your Vancouver/BC videos so far. I am an Ontarian, and your videos are so well done - love the hidden gems and creativity! Also, your Vancouver videos really make me want to move out there one day!
Very interesting. Love the basement bedrooms. Seems like an oasis in the middle of a bustling city. I look forward to future episodes about your stay and can only image there will excellent overhead drone footage of the park.
Been to Stanley Park on vacation before, it's a beautiful place! You're very fortunate to be such a great guy that 'strangers' invite you to watch their home. Awesome.
My dad was a groundskeeper and we lived in that house in the 50's and then in the 60's and 70's in the house near the rose garden that now is the ecological society office. Your tour of the house was a delight for my sister, brother, and me. It got us remembering several other houses that are now gone or repurposed. (Harbour board at Brockton Point--gone: Park Board plumber's house above the seawall near Pipeline Road--gone: First Nation family near the totem poles--gone: Superintendent's house near Lost Lagoon--now a daycare I believe: plus there were caretakers at some of the concessions: and there was a 3 or 4 story apartment building between park drive and English Bay across from the Park Board Office, etc. etc. Therere have been many changes but
Thanks for showing us such a nice house in Stanley Park. I just love riding my bicycle along the seawall in the park. It's raining today. But, I will be there.
Your camera skills are amazing especially the editing. Even though you film it yourself at times it feels like you have a crew helping with the filming. Great job.
Hey Mike! I was wondering since David is away, who is loading the gun while he’s gone? Thanks for the videos by the way. You have made me proud to live in such a great city.
Hi Mike greetings from England great video we’ve visited Stanley Park several times over the years and love it Sure you’ll have a great time staying there fantastic place .
I never knew there was an actual house on the island. That was awesome you got to house sit. The nine o'clock gun is pretty cool. We didn't know about it in 2016 when we were there, or I would have liked to see it.
Hey Mike great video! i am from Toronto and have been to Vancouver twice in the last three months to visit my mother and sister. Its awesome to watch your videos and then seeing everything in person. Its like being a kid in a candy store pointing everything out. I think i even may have seen you driving downtown! Keep up the awesome videos and maybe next time I am in vancouver i might even run into ya on the streets!
That was excellent, Michael! I hope you’ll consider putting your name on the waiting list because it could be another twenty years before the next caretaker is assigned. I’m definitely going to Stanley Park whenever I next get to The Couv!
Beautiful house and garden. Amazed at your skill of maintaining a stream of interesting videos in the past year while circumstances have kept you close to home. It helps that you are fortunate enough the live in a beautiful city and province. Thank you for bringing a large audience along.
Cool man, I always wondered about that house. I always thought it was an incredibly rich lucky person, or someone who was grandfathered in from long ago
Mike, what a wonderful chance to see Vancouver's Stanley Park. I totally enjoy your travels in BC. The only property we have is my grand parents' plot in Mountain View Cemetery, Chinese section. Yesterday, I found out that a Van Tech grad won Gold at Toyko 2020 Olympics.
I lived in Vancouver for 18 yrs and will be coming back in 2 yrs after retirement. I had no idea there was a house in Stanley Park. lol Thanks for sharing this.
Since I seen the earlier video which you mentioned it made things easier to understand right at the beginning. I think this will be a nice change for you...Enjoy!
This is amazing...you get to house sit...I didn't know people still do that. Such a quaint little house! Interesting how they came about trusting you with their house!
Stanley Park is my favorite spot when I was living in downtown Vancouver. Really miss the place. Thank you for sharing this with us. Never knew someone actually live in the park. Would be cool to see what kind of wild creatures are your neighbors at night.
I once stayed in a hostle near W Haystings and Cambie St and thought I can walk around the park in an hour or two. I was wrong! This was back before cell phones mind you... Love the video!
Ahh what a fantastic little journey and experience we get to join you on! I love it, Mike! Thanks as always for taking us with you on it to share in the joy!
Your channel is awesome bec you randomly get awesome videos like this. Reminds me when you were sponsored by the airport. Just unique insights into aspects that we never get to see. Thx Downie!
