Seems to me you prob would have been better suited in a more bustling city like Toronto…I live in Los Angeles and I can pretty much get to everything within walking distance…we are similar to Mexico City in alot of ways…you can always get a cheap meal from Mexican vendors on the street…despite the cost of living being high.

You cant compare life in rural/suburban america to Mexico City. Try living in rural Mexico and then come back to us with a fair comparison. This is coming from someone who’s experienced life on both.

Even with Dental insurance it only covers basics and removing cavities. the rest is out of pocket. And If you saved for retirement but end up on Medicaid, they take it ALL.

@lgstar3363 Are you here currently? I am here myself and I can tell you that a lot of people cannot afford it. I currently have receeding gums since I spent 9 to 10 years in the US without really going to the dentist and just to get a lot of the stuff removed I had to pay like 13k.... luckily I was able to pay it... but that was just to get the stuff that had built up all these years removed. The procedure for my gums to regenerate is another 16k.... I stand on what I said.

As someone from this city I can tell you, this lady is completely delusional and her experience is not a reflection of the huge megalopolis that is Mexico City, when she said that the city is stress free and she doesn’t miss the fast pace of Texas I laughed, she lives is a semi quiet neighborhood and works from home, Mexico City has a stress and a movement more similar to NYC than Houston, the traffic and the noise are nerve wrecking at times, and there are huge office buildings everywhere… although the weather is quite nice and she didn’t even mention that part

You're absolutely correct. We fled the U.S. as "healthcare refugees" and we are MUCH happier here on the Pacific coast of Ecuador. Better weather, very inexpensive, and actual access to healthcare. I would never go back.

@@noeminoemi1350 its a brutal change man, coming from mexico im used to friendly people, laid back lifestyle, too much party, strong family and most importantly you can make good friends easily. Japan is the opposite, the few people i have gotten to know in these years are far from friends although i see them almost every year and we share a lot of meals and alcohol, the work culture is crap, the whole hierarchy system sucks. Japan is a great country, i still love it, I go almost every year, i know a lot of subculture and everything, just living there is not for me. On the other hand, the philippines is like mexico 2.0, because there are so many familiar things but also the way people are there, people actually enjoy their life, sometimes id be walking down the street and someone called me to get some beers with them! Vietnam was also a very friendly country even with the language barrier, so many people tried to socialize with me. Again, japan is amazing, maybe it is ok for some individualistic societies like americans, germans, some other europeans, but social creatures have it difficult there.

I know an American university professor here in the town where I live, he works 6 months there and comes 6 months to rest here in Mexico, here is a small town of 2000 inhabitants, in an almost famous state of Mexico, far from big cities, It's very safe, no deaths, robberies, or anything like that. There is a lot of nature. Rents are approximately 150 dollars on average

$750 for a two bedroom is way less than rent in most US cities. Even if it goes up it will still be less than most cities in the US.

My biggest issue as a Mexican-American is i want to move to Mexico but i dont want to be the typical American moving to Mexico. I want to live in our culture see it with my own two eyes. But i dont want to be reason someone has to move because its getting expensive for them.

I'm retired, living on a pension - and I spend all my income in Mexico, so of course it is taxed, at 16% I don't pay income tax, because my income is not from working in Mexico. But I'm also not replacing a Mexican worker, and I'm definitely contributing to the local economy by pumping some foreign currency into it every month. Claiming that immigrants don't contribute to the economy is false - anti-immigrant Gringos say the same kind of false things in the USA. I'd also like to point out that there are many cheaper countries to move to in the world - if a person is an economic migrant looking for a more affordable place, Mexico is not at the top of that list. But Mexico is a splendid country, with smart, humorous, friendly people, a warm culture, and has lots of attractions. Its cities are very livable. Many of us immigrants didn't choose Mexico for the "cheapness", we immigrated because we prefer Mexico and are glad to be living here. I don't want to live in the USA again. My Mexican friends living in the USA prefer the USA, though. Not everyone is the same. If you're upset by gentrification in CDMX, ask yourself who is raising the prices? It's Mexican developers, Mexican landlords, and Mexican service providers, of course, not gringos. It's not comfortable admitting that it's Mexicans who are raising prices and pushing other Mexicans out of their neighborhoods, but that's how gentrification works in every country - immigrants are just easier to blame. In my own neighborhood in Guadalajara, the city has been trying to promote gentrification for a long time, but it's going very slowly, because it's not an exciting neighborhood. It suits me, but It's just an old working class and middle class residential neighborhood - many of the families here have lived here for generations. Stores and restaurants close down early, so there is no night life except the local cantina. I rarely hear English spoken here, and my presence is not pushing anyone out of their home. When Americans move abroad they are typically not moving for employers. Most Americans who move abroad have achieved financial independence or have a good nest egg and supplement their savings/investments by working as entrepreneurs, similar to the woman in this video.

I imagine however that Mexico City has a myriad of issues too, primarily the cartel. I've however heard that if you are not into drugs and that lifestyle, you can largely avoid the cartel in Mexico City.

Americans are changing neighborhoods in other countries BUT they also do that when they move to different states with different values. Liberal California people moved to conservative Texas and Georgia, for example. People from other countries move to the US and don’t assimilate either. I know many Spanish and Chinese speaking people who’ve been in the United States for many years who still refuse to speak English. So everyone moving around is now inevitable.

Any people moving to a particular place or city will drive up rent and costs - that's just basic supply and demand. There are towns in New Zealand that have grown very large due to high foreign immigration over the past 20 years, but those immigrants also create jobs because they are buying food and consuming goods and services. Yes they drive up our rent and house prices, but they also create some business opportunities for us.

But Mexicans can come to the US? It works both ways.

Yes, and they won't even make what she is. Her standard of living is way higher than many Mexicans. They work 9-9, 6 days a week and make about $600 pesos, $35 US dollars. Food is a comparable price as in the US. I lived in Ciudad Mante and my husband had a half decent job teaching English in the school system, and we didn't buy an oven for like 5 years. Then we bought one at Coppel on credit. We didn't have a water heater, we heated water on the stove and then mixed it with water in a home depot paint bucket, and poured it over ourselves with old yogurt containers to bathe in the winter. We had a small, old, AC in our bedroom that we only ran at night, and it never got below 80 degrees in that room from March to Oct. All of this, and we weren't as bad off as a lot of people are. Americans should know these things before moving down there. It was a lot for me to adjust to, seeing my friends' houses made of pieces of wood and not having water indoors. @@crishnaholmes7730

who cares. mexicans have been pouring into the USA for years

I've heard about that. All these real estate companies increasing rent prices. Just to capitalize on rich people. But what does it do? It leaves nothing for the local people. Who have to work in these restaurants or factories.

I know an American university professor here in the town where I live, he works 6 months there and comes 6 months to rest here in Mexico, here is a small town of 2000 inhabitants, in an almost famous state of Mexico, far from big cities, It's very safe, no deaths, robberies, or anything like that. There is a lot of nature. Rents are approximately 150 dollars on average

There are less than 10min lion in Mexico City itself. Il definitely visit. I’ve lived in Paris, Seoul, and Beijing. You get used to it if you enjoy living more than working

​@@yumyumkitty2104 a small area where all the other expats live. It more closely resembles the US than Mexico, in many ways. The experience is far from "real Mexico City." But, even bad stuff happens in the bubble.

Then how will that affect the natives? Everyone moving to Mexico with screw them over.
