I'm Not Getting a Model Y, But Maybe You Should? 

That's absolutely one of the factors that'll help make the Model Y quite popular--the Model 3's high door sills and odd floor divot can make for awkward entry/exit.

Alex Venz Thank goodness for the easy exit feature in my Model 3! I have my seat move back and go to it’s highest position. It helps me get in and out, but I’ve got to remember not to hit my head due to the reduced clearance. We have a Ford C-Max PHEV, which is basically a Ford Focus with a raised roof and seats on stilts, just like the Model Y’s. The taller car does not handle as well, but it doesn’t have a thousand pounds of batteries underneath the floor. I love the ridged bony structure of a sedan. There’s no way to get a tall hatchback as solid as a sedan, unless you add cross braces behind the fold down second row.

@@mitchellbarnow1709 I will add the caveat that I am assuming the Y will have safety ratings in the same range as the 3. That is to say, better than every other auto manufacturers ratings.

Scott Brown It will definitely be the safest car of it’s class ever made. The terminology that everyone is using for the segment makes no sense to me. You take a car, add a hatchback, raise the ground clearance, raise the roof, mount the seats higher and you have a vehicle that is not classified as a passenger car. That’s why they can offer factory tinted privacy glass for the entire rear section. The original Ford Explorers had roofs that were not strong enough to keep people from dying in rollover accidents. It wasn’t a passenger car and minivans were the same way. When Mercedes came out with their first SUV, they showed it rolling over many times and staying intact. I’m sure that Tesla made the Model Y conform to all passenger vehicle safety standards, at least I hope so.

The Rivian R1S is nearly 14" longer than the Model Y and is a completely different class of SUV that will likely be *much* more expensive.

Yeah, the MCU in my S is starting to get a little wonky as well. It'll be interesting to see if Tesla will warranty replace with MCU2 when it finally fails or if they'd be down for warranty + cash to do the upgrade.
