@Michael Teniente . . . but being _worse_ could be interpreted in a couple of ways: John-Ross could be a _worse businessman_ than JR; or could be a _worse husband_ than JR; or being a _worse employer_ than JR; or be a _worse judge of character_ than JR.
Agree. JR tried to to warn John Ross about his anger issues in one of their last scenes together. He said, “Vengeance is a dish that is best served cold, my boy!”
How the hell did this get canceled!! The drama and backstabbing was better than ever in fact is was that good it really cousin get better, Bobby and Sue Ellen’s and JRs acting was so bloody good in this new series and the cliffhanger in season 3! Bring it back!!!
TNT at the time had new management and they wanted to move the network into a different direction. Recently, TNT did it again, announcing they were no longer air any new live action shows. Only repeats of old shows
The ratings they did then would be a top 3 non sports show in all of cable today, I wanted to see Judith and John Ross join forces..would have been a great season 4
Cynthia Cidre did not do the right by the show. Her problem was she thought she could reinvent everything and no one would remember and that just doesn't work. Then she made it about her Hispanic race to create the appearance that Hispanics are the same as whites in this country. While she was doing it she didn't bother to connect it to the past show therefore this was going to be garbage even when the actors are good. I blame her for why this didn't work and I do think that Patrick Duffy and Linda Gray went along because Larry hagman was sick he just wasn't in the best of his mind that time and as he started to get sick or she took more control and they just kind of went along when they could have sat back and fixed many of these issues of discrepancy. Then when Cidre realized that she better sit back and try to fix this it was too little too late. If we could give someone the death penalty for messing up a television show she definitely is the person to give it too
The 3rd season was a mess. Nothing more than a Mexican soap opera and without Hagman, it just wasn’t Dallas anyways. It should’ve ended at the end of season 2.
I think Judith light lowered her standards. Her previous acting in years before we’re fantastic. A whole new low for Judith light. This Dallas reboot should been canceled before airing on t.v. Some things were meant to be in the past for a reason, and stayed their.
@@viqarkagzi3922 I've been acquainted with people in the acting profession, where it is such an all-consuming passion for them that _standards_ is of little concern with them. Few acting roles, in prominent TV productions, are out there for women of Judith's age group, so I can see where she didn't hesitate to be in this cast of Dallas.
@@ethelhoose7624, really? I started watching Dallas when it was sequel which I loved. Now that Amazon prime is showing the original Dallas I’m started watching it. I’m on season 1.
And this was the very final scene ever with Linda Gray and Patrick Duffy as Sue Ellen and Bobby. Dallas was such an iconic show, these characters deserved a better ending but instead we were left hanging...I guess everyone thought the show was going to be renewed. I bought the dvd set with extras and there were some beautiful scenes between Sue Ellen and John Ross from season 3 that were cut. If they had known this was the end, some of those scenes probably would've been included in the final episodes. What a shame!
The reason we liked JR because he was unique due to the brilliant acting of Larry Hagman. He was ruthless, but he did it with sophisticated charm, wit and class. Whereas John Ross lacks the character and personality, which makes him sound like an annoying spoiled prat in a grown man's body.
Idk what show you guys watched, but John Ross wasn’t really short and most definitely had presence & personality, even if it was up to the level of JR.
Worse, as in a worse person? Yes. Worse as in smarter, more diabolical? Son, you don't belong in the same paragraph as your old man. I do feel bad for Bobby in this scene, because it was at this time Christopher was meeting his horrific end. I miss the show but I'm not sorry we never saw Bobby getting the news.
Loved that ending as a season finale. Sucked as a series finale. Would love to see CBS all access pick this up. At any rate, would have been interesting to see where that would have gone. He was no JR, for sure. But, as for being worse, there is possibly something to that. JR, for all his deviousness, did love his family. And there were lines that it took a lot for him to cross. John Ross likely didn't have that limitation.
I think the final episode would've been very different if they knew it was going to be series finale. For example, there were some deleted Sue Ellen - John Ross scenes showing their bond as a mother and son that probably would (should) have been included, not to mention poor christopher and his fate...
@@lakimies111 yeah as a series finale it was pretty shitty, they left so many unanswered events! I think when we lost Larry Hagman the show lost a lot of its force since he was such a huge part of the series! I wouldn’t have minded them cancelling the show for the last time, but as important as Dallas has been to TV history they should’ve given it a proper finale! The end of the Barnes/Ewing feud and the dream Miss Ellie always had…..peace in the Ewing Family and peace on south fork!
I love Dallas as a TV show. However, I can understand why they didn't give it a fourth season. Again the fault was Cynthia Cidre she fucked up this show by her own craziness and obsession of putting the Hispanic race out there. That would have been fine if she had connected with the old show and it had been logical it wasn't.
I miss the actress that played Marilee, Fern Fitzgerald. Hard to fathom that her last acting gig was 25 years ago. According to online bio info, Judith Light, born in 1949, is two years younger than Fern.
@@patrickfabsich2692 Agreed. Judith Light was only 3 years older than Mitch Pileggi who played Ryland. They wanted to portray Judith as older, but she seemed too flirtatious or provocative to be that old.
What a wasted oppurtunity on Bobby's part. He should've reminded John Ross about when he was about nine years old: "remember that you came this close (holds thumb and index finger close) to getting murdered in cold blood by a mercenary (BD Calhoun) your father hired and then double crossed? Thanks to me and your Uncle Ray, you're still alive". And also reminded John Ross about Haleyville and hoarding and stealing Clayton's oil, and only Miss Ellie bailed him out of that mess that would've bankrupted Ewing Oil. John Ross refused to learn and the series ended abruptly and we never got to see him fall on his face. Inconsistencies like these are what made the final three seasons so bad when they could've been so much better and in concert with the original 14 seasons. The writers of those final three seasons just made me shake my head.
I thought this was really great, and everything. This is when it getting really good. Judith Ryland, the railroad commissioner, John Ross allying himself with the devil herself, and it was on from there. She kept giving him info on high officials for John Ross to blackmail. That's how he got them shares from Westar.
@Alice Martine: I also hated it but the story line was getting shorter by every single moment until JR Ewing passed away and the writers had to prove to the public that he was shoot by Cliff Barnes with a Saturday Night special type of gun.
Bobby lied, jr always had one over on Bobby every time even when Bobby won. Jr always come on top and bobby would always run to jr fof help. Bobby was class no push over by jr was so much better
@@leejaymarsh9021 Cite some examples and show your homework. When did Bobby go to J.R.? It was J.R. who begged Bobby to let him back in Ewing Oil when Bobby got the company name back
Sorry, John Ross, you could never be in Your daddy’s league. Since he very very young, your father, learned and worked from the best; his daddy, Jock Ewing. Grandpa Jock, gave your Daddy a piece of very valuable advice when he learned your Daddy tried paying off Your Aunt Pamela the day she joined the family. Your daddy asked her “how much would it take to end this farce and leave SouthFork?” When He told your Grandpa Jock, he wasn’t happy and their conversation went as followed. JR: “I asked her (Pam) how much she’d take.” Jock : “You did what?!” JR: “ I asked her how much she’d take.” Jock: “You Jackass!“ It’s about time you learn art of subtlety.” JR: “Well why should I be subtle?” Jock: “ because, the lack of it turns competitors into enemies and enemies into fanatics!” Your daddy did his best to raise you the way Jock raised him but you only cared about getting your way. You truly never benefited from your daddy’s lessons because you left him high and dry to go live with your mother in England. You never appreciated the lengths your Daddy went for you. Spoiled and whiny, you Took his love for granted which led to Your know it all attitude. News flash! You don’t have your daddy’s business acumen, intelligence, his charisma or killer instinct. You’re too cocky, you are too angry and work from your emotions instead of your intellect and ability to know what makes your enemies and business partners tick. In other words you’re more like that rodent Cliff Barnes.
An old strategy of the original writers. " And now I would like to introduce you to my sole investor." As the villainous character conveniently enters stage right or so....How many times has this been used? It is very dramatic and wonderful.
I loved this comeback SOOO MUCH!!! It was so sad to lose JR and Larry Hagman will always be missed but the rest of the cast did a great job. I was skeptical at the beginning of the third season but those worries quickly faded. So mad they cancelled this show...and I loved, loved, loved Judith Lights character!!!
If they bring it back get.peopme who actually watched the original. I can't believe there creators never saw it. I was born in 91 and seen every episode
Watching this has brought up, one good point.. And that if Dallas would have been picked up.... And if anyone could have, rebooted a remake it would have been the CW... They did it to dynstany, they could simply to dallas.... And John Ross is a character that could be a spinoff show!!!!
It was supposed to been a fourth season of this show but they canceled it because of Larry hagman's death and it wasn't no sense of carrying on without him sad that we didn't get to see the fourth season it is what it is
I could have writtin an awsome season 4 they left us on a cliff hanger with alot of loop holes. Sucks the canceld it Erick churches Devil Devil song at the end wow What agreat song.1 more seaso just to tie up loose ends,
No mention ever of how Sue Ellen's break up with Don Lockwood, unless it was in an episode maybe I missed. Then at reading of JRs will he left nothing to James or his grandson Jimmy, and nothing to Ray even though they weren't close a gag gift like the bottle of Scotch like he left Gary. Very bad continuity from this series to the original one and killing off both Pam and Katherine were huge mistakes. And Ray was around slot in season one but what was his reason to be? Where was Jenna? Not alot made sense and I'm surprised actors from original didn't make it a point to correct the writers on SO many of these mistakes. Sad waste of a good opportunity to revive a once glorious show.
@@leesas_classics1722 yeah but the TV movies weren't canon in this version because TNT didn't own the rights. It's safe to assume that in the 20+ years since Sue Ellen left for England, she and Don either split up or he died. At the beginning it was established Sue Ellen eventually came back to Texas and even ran for Governor
