24:28 - this is not about Pisa, but about a different tower in Bologna, a city which has its own leaning tower that is tilting, the tower in Pisa currently has bright prospects and is in no danger of collapse, with constant monitoring of the soil around it

Blue's on record stating that he will not touch the history of anything after World War 2 even if it will save his life. Even covering the 1980s fix is probably pushing it by his standards. It's not that he doesn't care about recent history and current events. The fundraiser streams they do on the channel prove that the entire OSP team cares deeply about current events. It's that focusing on that sort of thing for a video makes him ridiculously depressed, apparently. He's said something to that effect in the intro to the video he did on Ukraine very shortly after THAT whole nightmare kicked off. Can't say I blame him. I had to stop paying attention to current events roughly a decade ago for mental health reasons. Didn't want to end up doing something stupid that'd end up harming myself or others. Not going into the details. I wrote a version of this comment with the details, but it felt too uncomfortable so DELETED and wrote this instead. Just...know that my reasons for doing so are reasonably sound and I suspect others would agree if they knew the details because my therapists both know them and agree I've made the right choice. But I digress. Point is *Blue might not know because he generally avoids that kind of information while researching these vids.*

During the credits Blue says it is the 850th anniversary of starting to build it in August this year

The Leaning Tower in Pisa is about 849 years old, as of wrighting.

Turns out, he did actually write that book. His most recent video as of this explains that.

THEY DID NOT DELIBERATELY ADD WATER. They dug out the tower to the foundations and instead of doing something to fix them they left the dich and rainwater and ground water collected to DAMAGE the tower.

The technical term is "squishy ground". They kept building things on squishy ground. And yes, I know that's not actually a technical term, but the real technical terms are boring.

The IPA is a really handy tool if you take the time to learn and read it. The goal is to have a script that expresses exactly which sounds are produced in words, and the more in-depth version also covers stress and intonation. So technically, if you can read the IPA and produce every language sound (I can do the former but have some trouble with the latter) then you can be given a speech in a completely foreign language - be it Greek, Japanese, or what have you - transcribed in IPA, and read it out... not perfectly, but well enough to be understood by speakers of that language. It's not perfect because nothing made by humans ever is, but boy is it useful when you want to know how something is pronounced. Wikipedia uses it a lot, putting the pronunciation of words in brackets behind the orthographic (English) spelling. Here for example is the IPA transcription of Odysseus as it is pronounced in English: /əˈdɪsiəs/ and then here the Greek pronunciation: [o.dy(s).sěu̯s]. Source for both: Wikipedia, but in this case it's good enough for the demonstration. The different signs at the start and end (the // and the []) are for phonemic and phonetic transcription respectively, but that's not that important right now.
