Peep it. I'm not one to usually comment on a YT vid, but I feel like you might actually see this and maybe it might help out, so here goes. First, understand that there is nothing wrong with (a) not having a passion, or (b) not knowing what it is yet. It's more than 7 billion people on this planet... do you really think that most folks are out here living their best lives? I'd say that's highly unlikely; a whole bunch of folks are just sort of going through the motions. You at least are self-aware enough to be thinking about it, so you might discover what yours is. Second, regarding a talent, I wouldn't sweat it too hard. I have a talent (drawing). My son has a talent (advanced math). Neither one of us likes our talent. I draw once a year just to see if I can still do it, but if I never picked up a pencil again, I'll be alright with that. Third, perhaps you haven't found your talent or passion because you're looking in the wrong places. What I mean is that some passions aren't "celebrated" so we don't consider them when looking for them. For example, some people are passionate parents or siblings. Others are passionate spouses, church goers, dog owners, or bottle cap collectors. I, for one, know my passion: I LOVE a good game of spades. That's not one you hear people talk about, but I know that nothing warms me up like looking in my hand, seeing that I have 5 books, my partner has 4 and a possible, but we go 10 anyway... alright, let me refocus. Let me just sum this up by saying sis, there is nothing wrong with you. Take some time to just unpack yourself. Think about yourself... not the way you "should" be, not the way you want to be, but really be vulnerable and authentic with yourself. Maybe it takes a night, maybe it takes a bunch of nights. It took me a while before I found my passion. I know it sounds corny, but my passion found me. You'll get there one day, or you won't, but both are regular. Be cool CC.

Having a passion is a luxury.
@incubus_the_man

I feel that the real issue is that people aren't being offered enough extra curricular activities or hobbies growing up. Those types of activities show us what we are good at and they give us a challenge. I feel that we focus too much on keeping up with popular culture instead of finding what's unique about us individually. Talents and hobbies take cultivation, most people aren't naturally talented. They cultivate their skills, sometimes from childhood. My dad used to be big on family photos and he eventually gave me his camera. That's what got me started on photography and it became a serious passion for me.
@user-qf5kl6cv2y

I took those extracurricular activities and it just reinforced that thought of having a passion
@incubus_the_man
@incubus_the_man Год назад
@@user-qf5kl6cv2y Did you actually find passion in anything? Also I feel that extra curriculars can help you to see what you're good at compared to others. That's where the passion comes from, people tend to like what they're good at or understand very well. That can even help with career development. If you like dressing up in scrubs and do well with biology and work well with people, you might be ideal for the medical industry. If you're better with using tools, to fix things, you might decide to become a mechanic or maintenance tech... etc.

I totally get what you mean but I'd say it would still take time to figure out what you actually want to do. I've bounced through multiple potential hobbies before I found one that I actually enjoy doing. It just takes a little bit longer for some people to click with something.

I don't understand why society has a grown a dislike against being ordinary. Everybody wants to be special or is pressured to be special at the expense of the real self. There is beauty in mediocrity. You're a very introspective person who has a way of explaining difficult topics in layman's terms. I think that's important.
@MiketheNerdRanger
@MiketheNerdRanger Год назад
I think it is because in that exact same society, what is considered an "ordinary" life is a life-draining, stress filled, powerless dead end that gets worse year after year. I don't disagree with you per se, but I understand the sentiment against "ordinary." With that said, while I don't want "ordinary" life, that doesn't mean if someone else *does,* they're a failure.

The only thing I truly LOVE doing is watching tv/movies. So then people are like “well then you could be a filmmaker or maybe a film critic”. NO. The thing I like about tv is that I can turn off my brain, I don’t want to think about it. I can sorta draw, but I’m not passionate about it and I definitely don’t wanna do it as a job, nor do I think I’m good enough for that anyway. I wish it was enough for me to just simply exist and do nothing, but unfortunately that’s not how society works atm.

It feels good to hear someone else say this out loud. I'm 37, married with 3 kids and I still feel this way, always have. I was in college switching majors and stayed longer than I should have, racked up school loan debt trying to figure this out. I've been to therapy to try to figure it out and the same frustrating question is asked, "Well what do you like to do/ what are you good at?" And it always feels so condescending to be asked that question because it's like, if I knew the answer to that, or had a talent, do you think I'd be asking for help, lol. I've felt like such an "other/outsider" for feeling like this and for floating for so long and am envious of others who have seemed to have figured it out. I'm now coming to terms with the fact that, not everyone figures it out, and that's OK! Do what makes you happy even if that's a different thing each day.

My love . You are not weird because you are not passionate about anything . There are millions that can relate to this . I changed my major 4 TIMES in college and all 4 were completely different from one another. The one i ended up settling on has nothing to do with the job i currently have. I am not passionate about my job whatsoever it’s just a paycheck. I often feel like I’m just flowing through life. I’ve had areas of my life that i absolutely adore and things i am good at. For example I had a very lengthy dance career and i LOVE dance. There was a time i thought i could not LIVE without dance. And yet, i haven’t danced in the last 2 years. Ugh, I’m rambling but i feel you girl. I honestly think i will live my entire life without a true “passion”.

to anyone here who feels the same: a passion doesn't have to be drawing or computer science... your job should not be your sole purpose in life... helping your friends is a purpose, taking care of your family is a purpose, improving your health and mind is a purpose, struggling against challenges in life is a purpose, reaching out to others and making them feel heard and valid is a purpose, discovering new pieces of art, music and cinema is a purpose.. just take a moment to think outside of this producer-consumer duality that we're being fed through every single media outlet and think about what you wanna do deep inside... if it is just chilling at home with a bunch of cats or plants that's totally okay

I CANNOT express how much this is my same dilemma OMG!! But thank goodness you’re better off than me. I struggle so hard with figuring out what to do with my life, why I cannot stay at any job, and not being “passionate” or “talented” enough to commit to absolutely anything. The most frustrating part of life is having so much ambition and determination (and a BA) and no outlet or direction in which to channel it. Many nights I’ve thought so hard that Ive given myself headaches, cried, and couldn’t sleep wondering why seemingly EVERYONE is good at, skilled at, and/or talented in something, except me?! And at least those without a talent, skill, passion can at least find a job and stick with it …. I’ve had 6/7 jobs in the last 2 years and I’m talking State jobs (three)VA (twice) County, USPS, etc. it’s literally depressing and honestly I feel like it’s a curse or something idk ~ but thank you for sharing.

I’m glad somebody finally addressed this “taboo” topic that is actually widely felt in a public format because I feel this video to my core but I also feel like an alien because it seems like most of the people I’ve ever met have natural talents and passions when I simply don’t. It’s very much like you said-you have things you like but nothing you’re overtly “passionate” about and even when you are excited about it, it never lasts. This has weighed heavily on my heart for a very long time and I still don’t have an answer for it. Hobbies, passions, and talents don’t come as naturally to some as they do to others and I think this needs to be normalized so that we can start accepting ourselves and eachother so thanks for your vulnerability because there are many that feel it too

As another poster stated in the comments "life is a journey". YOUR life is YOUR journey. Don't compare yourself and your situations with others' around you. Dont allow others to pressure you into things either. You don't necessarily NEED a passion to have purpose. Pray and meditate about it, like REALLY about YOUR need or want for said "passion". I don't have a talent either. I also don't feel the NEED to have one. 🤷🏾‍♀️ I do have a "passion" and it's respiratory therapy (my job). No, I don't enjoy it or feel elated everyday doing it. But I do get that feeling when I see the fruits of my labor. I initially felt that the military would be my calling but after 10 years, I realized it wasn't. 🤷🏾‍♀️ Although I did love most moments of it and would do it all over again. I believe my purpose or "gift" of motivating/encouraging others found ME. I didn't choose it by any means! Lol BUT I DO get joy from that too. It's not my passion though 😕 Sorry for dang near writing a novel but I'll end by saying this; do Candice. Try your best not to put expectations and labels on yourself based upon others. Live your life the way you wish. If that's going with the flow then do it. Sometimes simple is satisfying and that's ok! Love you Lady! 💘

I thought I was the only one until I decided to check RU-vid about this topic today. I’m 40 years old and every one of my siblings (both older and younger) is talented at something and is passionate about something. Me, not so much. In high school, my teachers had us all take tests to find out what careers/majors might be a good match for us. I tried one and it did not work out because the college I applied to didn’t explain the process beforehand. I got placed in classes I hadn’t done the pre-reqs for, couldn’t understand why everything was so hard, and just dropped out. I then went from one minimum wage job to another before getting a job at a company my dad worked at. I have been lucky enough to be here ever since. 22 years. I hate the atmosphere I work in, I’m stuck, and a change of directions is the onliest way I’m gettin outta here. I have no idea what to do. I’ve been taking college courses online at the pace my job pays for (up to 4 per year) for 12 years. They discontinued my major, so now I’m in Gen Stud minoring in Psychology (another major my high school suggested). I enjoy psychology, but I have NO desire to have one more job where I have to talk to people. SMH. I hated phone service. But🤷🏽‍♀️no idea what to switch to. I enjoy reading, finding cool products that solve problems, running, dancing, and roller skating. None of those provides a guaranteed pay of at least $60K per year or paid medical/dental/vision/Rx insurance. I don’t need a lot, but I at least need those things. I think people like us were made for the age when you hunted, gathered, healed, or made clothes n tools, lol. There are countless professions now. Hth are we all supposed to just know them all and be zeroed in on one?

I had no idea what I was passionate about during our college prep in high school. Like you, when I graduated I figured I'd get into nursing (which never happened, I never even attended college). I'm 34 now and I still have no idea what I'm passionate about. I feel talentless & the hobbies that I enjoy doing can't be turned into a career. Let's be realistic, who the hell is going to get paid decent money to sit around and read books, shop, or listen to music all day?! The only thing right now that has my undivided attention and heart would be my son, that's it. I see everybody around me succeeding & happy. So many people are utilizing their talents to excel & succeed in life. I wake up every morning and go to bed every night wondering if I will ever find it. I don't know what God has in store for me.

I feel the EXACT same way! I know Im still young and have time to find these things but sometimes I feel like the world moves so fast and ppl have all these cool lives theyre living and Im just like...😐 But Ive learned, by having God in my life, everyday has its purpose. My purpose today couldve just been to make someone smile or encourage someone, so I try not to think too far ahead and just live day by day. So a "passion" or "talent" of mine is seeing how I can improve and grow on a daily basis, 'cause believe it or not a lot of ppl have a hard time with that. But youre beautiful and blessed so no matter what know God has plans for you and He'll reveal all in its riight time. 🙏💙

I've felt this way my entire life. Now I'm 42, I've wasted at least half of my life doing nothing, I still live paycheck to paycheck, and I still don't have any interests. I wish I could say that things get better, but so far they only get worse.

I understand where you’re coming from a bit. Don’t play yourself. If someone asks about your hobbies respond with a big smile and say, “I’m exploring different activities right now.” Or something like that. What do you like to shop for? Where do you like to shop? Boutiques or chain stores? Do you like to put outfits together? Decorate your house? Do you try to get the look for less? Do you shop all day at Michaels then craft all night? You like to eat. What type of dishes do you enjoy? Do you ever attempt to make these at home? Do you seek out new restaurants? Are you a foodie? What type of books do you enjoy reading? What about photography? Have you considered taking classes? Church? Volunteering? Taking care of Storm? Try this. What advice would you give someone moving to your area? Where would you tell them to go to meet interesting people? Where should they go to have a good time? What types of activities would you recommend? (Also, if you don’t know your area then call your chamber of commerce. They’re a great resource.)

I honestly stopped dreaming about doing the things I wanted to, seeing how evil society is. Theres nothing really pushing me to continue living. And that what caused me so much anxiety and stress. Im not good at anything. I tried doing good things but I get so unhappy about it so quickly because I see no improvement at all no matter how hard I try. I think thats also another problem i have. I get so bored easily and unmotivated then I stop caring and go back to my depressing state and just isolate myself because im so embarrassed about myself. Theres nothing good about me at all.

You know you're passionate about something when you keep coming back to it no matter how much time passes. It doesn't always feel like this intense love for something but it is something you couldn't let go of even if you tried because it always finds its way back to you. I'm passionate about music and songwriting and I always have been from a young age, but I don't always feel the need to write music, I can go months without writing anything but when the time is right, it comes spontaneously and I write beautiful music. I guess its about following your natural desires, not putting pressure on yourself when you don't feel like doing something, but when you do, go for it and just see what happens

I’m not sure how your video ended up in my recommendations but baaaaby listen I’m happy it did! Don’t feel bad or alone! It’s a lot of us that feels the same way (including myself) as if it’s something wrong with us and it’s not. We’ve been conditioned to think that we must do this or have that by a certain age. When in reality, we’re still learning about who we are (well most of us). I’ve started to learn that it’s okay to just be, time will prevail. 🦋

Thanks for sharing!! I feel like you were speaking my exact thoughts. I have been watching RU-vid since maybe 2008 and have wanted to create a channel ever since BUT I don’t feel I have any real talent or any hobbies/passions that will draw people in and I also don’t feel as if I have the “look” to succeed on RU-vid either. I over-stand everything you’re saying though. Like I’ll get into some new hobby/interest and then after a while I’m over it. But as another person said, sometimes it’s no real specific or extravagant thing to be talented in. I guess just being who you genuinely are is a talent in itself if that makes sense.

There are some people in life who never have this one passion that they are married to. On their journey they discover things that interest them and they learn and enjoy those things for a season... then they move on to something else when it comes along. Don't feel bad for not having that one thing like other people. Just continue to get to know yourself on a deeper level and stay curious about life and things will come along the way that will pique your interests. I hope this helps ❤

My dream career path has always been linked to the sciences due to my interest in it from a young age and my grades in the sciences proved it too. I later determined that I wanted to go specifically into fertility studies, but as for hobbies and things non-academic related I've never found something that I LOVED. I'm always envious of people that make it a weekly thing to watch their favorite sport or better yet play it, or people that put time and effort into preparing for concerts or competitions to show their passion-filled works because there's nothing in particular that I look forward to other than chilling, eating or hanging with friends like you mentioned.

I’ve been feeling this way too. I love doing hair, I love astrology, making jewelry, fashion but the hardest part is sticking with either one of those. I’ve started multiple businesses but I haven’t stayed stuck with it. I’m in cosmetology school rn and I still don’t know if that’s what I should but I do hair all the time so I figured why not get licensed but I don’t feel like it’s my calling. At this point I figured I’d have to do something just to earn a living so I figure it might as well be something Im good at.

I just started following you and love your content! Watching you, I see the absolute opposite of no talent! Talent = Your camera presence, ability to speak to a 47K+ following on RU-vid, your storytelling, your content quality and creativity, your ability to do your hair, your ability to do your makeup, your styling/visual creativity... I could go on, but the point is! This is all TALENT! Passion = You seem passionate about your work (your social presence), but I could also see how work is... well, work for many folks. And not everyone is passionate about their work. BUT... passion can come and go. It's part of life! For example, in your other video about you ending your natural hair journey, you spoke about how into it you were initially and how the time didn't matter. That, Candice, is passion. It was just for a certain amount of time-the passion faded. For some, passion lasts longer (a lifetime), for others months, days, weeks, years, minutes (maybe lol). And sometimes we may find ourselves passionate about something, lose passion for that something, and then later find it again. Using myself as an example this time: I used to LOVE art (it was my passion), but I lost touch with it for YEARS and then recently, started revisiting it, and shockingly, I'm better than I was before (more life experience is going into my art). Passion isn't always obvious. And it's not always some explosive long-term thing. And it's possible to experience moments, or even a lifetime, where you're not passionate about something. There's nothing wrong with that. And there's nothing wrong with you. Continue living your best and having a growth mindset, and passion will find you ❤️

I resorted back to writing when my knees failed my dancing career and God said "No Ma'am" to my vocal box. I'm a decent writer and sometimes, I can honestly say I'm not passionate about it but I do believe in my writing. I know how to do other things like hair and whatnot but if I had to make money off of anything, it would be my writing. So search through your catalog of things you can do and see which peaks you. Or perhaps your passion/talent is in cultivating something you look over

I so resonate with everything you said! I have many interests but no passion or real hobbies. I've been called a jack of all trades but not really an expert on anything.I like to try new and different things when the idea comes to me but I never feel like I have to keep doing them or have plans to expand them. I'm just happy to do them when I'm doing them and then I move on. So I end up just enjoying certain things for a time. I thought going with my heart's interests will eventually lead me to my passion but I'm in my 40s now and still searching. I keep thinking I wish I just knew what it is to focus on. I envy friends/people who knew what they wanted and stuck to it. And when going online/shows/movies everything is about celebrating your passion/ambition. There aren't a lot of content about people like us, and so for awhile I wondered too, am I the only one who feel this way? So thank you for making this video and giving us a place to be reminded that we're not alone. Good luck to us!

Hi Candice, most people can relate to where you are and certainly I can. Sometimes with careers/jobs, you may choose what pays the bills so it may not be a passion or a hobby you love. Growing up, I wasn't expose to how to have/love hobbies or passion because that wasn't what I was surrounded with. So I started with simple curiosity and it grew from there. I watched a lot of PBS television, definitely educational. If you're traveling, look up history of the place, volunteer for different things (various events, feed the homeless, help with food banks, participate in programs to tutor at risk kids, neighborhood event, tons of things to volunteer), cooking classes, dancing, fencing, go to all kinds of museums and read how people contribute (or not contribute), take singing lessons, learn to play an instrument, attend cultural events/education, art classes, various crafts, try holistic yoga classes, learn one foreign language, go to plays (high school, colleges and professional), swim lessons, and the list goes on. You also might even consider moving to another city or state, with a plan. Oh, and don't expect to feel the "passion" or "love the hobby" to come immediately. Give your heart as you consider the above mentioned or any suggestions from your platform. You'll know if something peaks without stressing about it but enjoy the journey and be patient with yourself. You have so much potential and it's waiting to blossom and shine. :) Best wishes.

Going with the flow is underrated but is a gift in and of itself. I have a talent to sing but I’m not super passionate about it. I love God. I like to relax as well, shop, eat, spend time with family, being in nature, cleaning and organizing my home. I’m sick of the lie that we always have to be chasing something. I’m learning to take life one day at a time especially having children, and just being more present daily. And prioritizing simple moments of joy over passion.

I'm in almost the same boat except my story is kinda depressing lmao... When I was a junior in high school, I had sooo many things I wanted to do - so many things I was passionate about. My senior year I had to move schools and fell in with the wrong crowd and into an 8 year heroin addiction. I'm 32 now and in therapy amongst other programs and my therapist CONSTANTLY asks me what I like to do and what my hobbies are. I legit don't have any but I think my personal reason is a chemical imbalance in my 🧠. I have a hard time finding joy etc. Annnnnywaaay... Ha.. I appreciate you posting a real video like this. It makes me not feel so alone but at the same time I know I am. You're gorgeous inside and out. I'm positive you WILL find the passion you're looking for.

i was born into Hip Hop so my path was pretty much laid out for me. it came easy to rap, paint, make music, etc... overtime I wondered if I actually love it or was pre-programmed to do it, but also the psychological ramifications of how attention seeking forges behavior patterns. i became a performer but am generally introverted and don't want the attention. i've found that my passion isn't in any medium, just the act of creation itself. talent is just the offspring of work - it grows exponentially over time + energy input multiplied by awareness and focus. some people start early and it happens faster. you have a talent for communication. putting out videos like this is difficult for people that may have other talents, including myself. that being said talent may be seen as something that comes easy for you, that you then compound through effort. passion isn't necessarily tied to talent. thank you for sharing this!

If someone hasn’t already suggested… I would say look into getting a life coach… if you truly want to find your passion or find clarity.. ultimately you will come to the realization but they just help you get there… and I think having a “talent” doesn’t have to be so concrete “ like singing or being an artist” it can be something at simple as being a great listen… like you’re the person that all your friends come to for…. Something like that... Which can turn into a passion

This kinda makes me feel better thanks. I have multiple talents, and Ive always been able to do anything school or anyone else throws at me, but Ive never been crazy passionate about something I am studying or doing, ether liked or dissliked things but no further from that. One of first talents thats has showen up is drawing and since my uncle and his son are kinda famous painters, my family has pushed it on me but I really could care less about it, it doesn't bring me joy or makes me get lost in it and spend hours drawing or painting. There are many more things Ive competed at even such as violin, maths, languages, swimming, handball, IT, biology, physics, etc. but I never feelt like doing any of that for the rest of my life. And now I am comming to realize mby it is ok to be passionate about small things that you don't do for lifing, for example I rly like fitness and cooking, I also looove animals and nature, I love traveling and fashion and I love connecting with people and meeting new ones. So mby it is ok if for work I do something that I am talented at, and it bringing me good salary and work life balance so that I have time for things I actually care about.

Sometimes we don't recognise what we're good at/what our skills and talents are because they come soooooo naturally we don't see them as anything "special" especially if the talents are not the celebrated mainstream talents like singing, hair, business, programming etc. Sometimes the job isn't the talent but you use your talents on the job! Maybe ask a couple of your close friends for 1 or 2 things they see you are good at. Are you a listener? An organiser? Do you explain things well (teach)? Can you cook really well? Are you good at learning/studying? Are you good with kids? You like to shop . . . and your background looks put together, so maybe you have an eye for style and what goes together. Talents come in many shapes and forms - don't be discouraged. Also, feelings are fickle! Passion isn't always all consuming and in my experience its not always blatantly evident. Maybe listen to a few Ken Coleman vids as he directs people how to think about their situations/passions/talents and sit with yourself a while. I did that and found my passion, which had actually always been with me but I didn't recognise. Be blessed

I felt that way before I went to college, and that's one reason I went in the first place. Well, that and the fact that I couldn't get a regular job... My passions are in my RU-vid name: hair and science. Even though many people have come and gone in the natural hair space, I continue to watch those types of videos because I find specific things I like to research about hair and then I search RU-vid and do my own little investigations on each subject matter as opposed to letting the algorithm direct me to certain videos (in most cases). Long wash days feels more like a pampering session than a chore on most days. Plus, I've experimented in my hair journey so much and that's what has kept it from becoming stale. There's so much I've learned about hair in the past year alone, even though I started my journey in 2010. Particularly since I started letting my gray hair do it's thing as opposed to covering it with henna. Now when it comes to science I initially majored in nursing but right away I switched to chemistry and biology once I saw that I was actually really good at it and it interested me. Since I'm a follower of Christ I believe the only reason I "stumbled" across my gifts and passions is because God literally ordered my steps in that direction as his word says that he will do. I wouldn't say that passion is a burning desire but as I heard someone say before, it's something that you're willing to suffer for. I can honestly say that in my career I have suffered tremendously pursuing a career in the sciences, namely chemistry. Back when I was in college it wasn't as popular as it is today for black women to go into STEM fields but now it's pretty common. I felt isolated for much of my career journey and still do but what keeps me in this field is that I have a pretty easy job that I get paid very well to do so aside from the messy people I have no real complaints.
