Everyone is talking about his singing but no one was mentioning how incredible his guitar playing is. His guitar playing alone made this performance and it’s almost not fair that he can do both so well.
@@dirkdiggler. Your are horrible excuse for a human being. Have you got even a tiny fraction of his talent. If not then keep your nasty remarks to yourself. We don't need them. I am sure you are no oil painting yourself!!!!
Same!!! I have searched but there's none. Tbf I don't think a studio version would come close to this anyway. So much feeling in this cover it's on another level
'The Hunter.' Willem Dafoe. That was the first time I heard this song. In the middle of a 10 year drug and alcohol run. This is my first time hearing this version. 8 years of no alcohol or drugs now.
The voice. The pitch. The control. The guitar playing. The soul. The lingering sense of wanting into the crescendo of lust. This is a complete performance.
I am not exaggerating when I say, this cover haunts me. I first saw it years ago, and I still think about it from time to time. I always come back to watch it again to see if his voice and guitar are as spellbinding as I remember them. Just as poignant and absolutely beautiful each and every time! ❤❤❤
"The Ether surrounding that falsetto put my mind on a train passing somewhere lonesome, with a whistle blowing the stacks sky high, and echoing through a mountain holler, bound for anywhere else but here"...
This fella is from my hometown and let me tell you seeing him live numerous amounts of times he's absolutely amazing in person. His song " coal mining blues" hits me everytime since my grandfather was a coal miner. Simply beautiful voice
What I want to know is why isn't this guy more famous than he is? It's a shame that music like this isn't main stream anymore. I would listen to this type of music all day every day instead of the shit that's on the radio now ... s'cuse my french
+Scott Clare I could not agree more ! this man is the definition of talent ! i could listen to him sing all day . I personally would rather listen to a cover from someone sitting down with a guitar or piano on a camera rather then the song from the actual singer because covers are more real , its not tampered with , just true raw talent !
The first time I heard this, three things happened to me: I forgot to breathe for 5 minutes and 25 seconds, I kept my mouth open for the entire time, ended up unconsciously drooling all over my face. An absolute pearl, resonating across the entire universe.
suddenly in the middle of the night, during the middle of this covid19 nightmare, I just woke up in the middle of the night and found your recording of this song, and it's just what my soul needed tonight
I realise I'm very late to this but I've honestly listened to it an average of about 4 times a day for the last week and I've come to the conclusion that it's fucking awesome!
The RU-vid algorithm has finally lead me to a video that I NEEDED to witness. My eyes are watering as I type this. What an emotional performance. Thank you.
I've had the awesome fortune of watching this master a couple of times at our Winnipeg Folkfest. The best was when my wife and I ended up sitting next to him and his wife at dinner! Starstruck!! When he jammed with others at the festival, he was pretty much the meistro!
Mark it seems as if most of the views and replies are from years ago, does he still perform? I’m not having much luck finding out if he tours the US or not.
@@excusemesir1840 definitely still touring. stubbyfingers.ca is his site. Looks like you may have to come up here to Canada to see him though. Not sure where you are in the states, but worth the trip. I have seen him live many times, and would go back over and over.
I volunteer at Hillside Festival in Guelph and was posted backstage for Matt's performance. The tent filled up and a crowd grew on the walkway behind the stage. Matt's 50 minutes became an hour fifteen because the applause wouldn't stop. Even the act waiting to perform marveled at him. Seen him play a couple of times since and he wowed us each time. Cool guy, too-- hangs around at the merch table after to chat and sign autographs.
No matter how bad of a day, in front or behind me, I find myself here; the opening of this song brings me to another place where I can both cry and smile. All the things I am supposed to be don't matter . . . free is being simply me. His voice reminds me of the innocence I once had as a young lad. I'll come back, soon. Cause I'm on fire.
Holy shit! Just when I thought I had heard every version of this song possible I click on this just out of curiosity and honestly wasn't expecting much. Absolute chills ran down my spine.
The extension of the song and the subtle lyrical changes like "Edgy and dull and cut a six inch valley Through the middle of my soul" are so beautiful!!!
A person need not get old as long as they discover (uncover?) something new every day. Today my revelation is Matt Andersen. Good God, what a voice/presence. That falsetto is ethereal.
The thing about an artist like this is he enjoys hearing it more than anyone in the room i love it when an artist opens his mouth and totally blows the doors off a song..! well done matt Never knew Hurley could play
It’s like the music is flowing through him. This is the 5th year since I first heard this rendition and I keep coming back to listen. Hope it’s still here when I’m 60.
@Michael Palmisano - This version brings home harder than the original for some reason. My spirit was just hit with a rouge wave of emotions and memories that I’ve been fighting for years to bury…
Ok I'm going to be honest, I've only just discovered Mat, and I only clicked on the first video I watched because I thought it was Meatloaf but Oh My God. I've never been moved by a musician as much in my entire life. This man is angelic. What a voice, what soul. I've definitely found a new life coping mechanism ☺☺
I feel like he truely feels music, not just plays it or hears but feels it. This type music talent and expression that reaches deep down into your soul and connects on a whole different level -we feel ya brother
The most incredible cover version of my fave Springsteen song EVER. An astounding voice compliments the awesome guitaring. Gives me chills every time. Love it.
I was stunned when I played this the first time, just absolutely damned stunned. Hit my soul like nothing I've heard in a long long time. Somebody get this guy in a studio!
That was beatuiful, I got goose bumps from the guitar playing and his voice. Plus I started to cry because he looks just like my best friend that died and it made me feel like I was looking at him again
Oh my effing God This guy is absolutely amazing you're like a total package. So he can play. . He's Got Feeling, Has incredible soul. This song is very, very special to me so I didn't want to listen to it at first,,,... in case he wrecked the song for me... But this guy Matt Anderson is incredible !!!!!! i nstant fan! !!!
This is awesome, but please z, don’t ever dis the Boss, the true talent is writing this magic as well the hundreds of other masterpieces he has written. It is the incredible “bones” to these songs that allow interpretations like this.
This gave me chills unlike any song I have heard, right around “did he go and leave you all alone“ at around 3:57, hit me like a ton of bricks, unreal.
3:43 Oh my goodness, that riff is absolutely tasty...the absolutely musicality of this whole cover is UNBELIEVABLE. Everything just sounds like poetry, this is how to cover a song. It has soul and breathes, if most "musicians" of the pop genre today had even an ounce of Matt's innate musicality and talent ...bravo Matt.
Ian Hi Ian you need to wake up and quit talking out of your ass. Remember who wrote the song and listen to the Boss and maybe just maybe you’ll understand!!
