Well, this is a bit of a different video where I'm sharing what's been on my mind lately and also what you can expect on this channel going forwards.
It's always a bit scary to share something that's still a "work in progress", or something that feels a but vulnerable like this, but I felt like I needed to talk about it as it's something that has been on my mind for a good while already.
Thank you so much for watching and hope that you'll stick around even after this 😅

I know when your passion becomes a “job,” it’s not fun any more. I am a hobbyist photographer, crafter, designer, illustrator, and artist. I’ve done graphic design and illustrating as a “job” and I hated it. Now I only create art for myself. Do what is best for you!!!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️

I’m a full time graphic designer and love it and the diversity BUT I’m not sure I can become fully just a photographer.. I do weddings and enjoy it but I think I’d get burnt out if that was the only thing I did.

I was raised with that "Winners never quit and quitters never win" mentality. When I was studying architecture in college, I realized that it was something that was an absolute passion for me (and I'm still passionate about) but I wasn't going to be a good architect. I literally did not sleep 4 nights a week, and was staying awake from high amounts of caffeine just to get my work done. I was getting good grades but it wasn't without agonizing over my projects. I tortured myself because of that "never quit" that was pounded into my head. My graphic design major roommate encouraged me and said, "This is for the rest of your life!! Change your major!" I said, "I can't do that. I will be a failure. I will disappoint my parents." She said, "But graphic design comes so natural to you it's not like you have to put any effort into it. " So I made a huge change, and changed colleges and majors (to graphics and photography.) It was one of the best things I'd ever done. (Architecture will always be a passion, and I teach Introduction to Architecture to children because I love it so much. ) ...AND I changed my career after I had children. I'm now a doll artist. (I also do all of my own web design and photography .) I believe true artists and creators never stop growing and changing and learning.

You could once in a while do a vlog type video, which I 'd love very much bc I love your energy and the Finland scenery. I also like to watch your decoration, fashion style, kittens, life in Finland etc.. I 'm from Greece and the north seems so interesting especially when you are in it cause you make everything magical!.. even just chatting about you or some issue you stumbled upon in a photo making would be great to watch .. needless to say all of this in your own boundaries and limits or mood.. no pressure... just saying I love anything you do and if you want to close this channel completely I support you 100%.. stay cute 😍💕

I'm here for your personality, as some others here have already said. I'm a teacher and, even though I love what I do, at the moment I feel like I've run out of ideas, thinking about quitting too, and being kind of attracted to crafting, spending time in nature, not exactly sure what I'd like to do next.. Weird isn't it? It has been bringing me down for some time now. But now that I'm watching your video I'm like "hey, that's me! she's right!" Creative people sometimes need to take a step back, try something different and probably come back with more ideas and channel more energy and talent into whatever they're doing. And here's the strangest thing: I was just reading the following words, right before I came across this video and now somehow everything makes sense: "The human mind is not made for monotony. It is perfectly natural to ask for variety. We have created a wrong society, a society that does not function according to human nature. The desire for variety is a basic quality that every intelligent person has. The more intelligent you are, the more variety you want. There is a connection between intelligence and variety. A cow is satisfied even if it has only one type of grass. Throughout its life it does not touch any other type of grass. The idiots do not want to change anything. They are afraid of change because any kind of change means you have to start learning again."
@Kutovakika
@Kutovakika 2 года назад
Wow thank you for sharing those words, that makes so much sense and I can really relate! It was a scary thing to share this and realise I need to let myself try oter things and let go of the idea that you can only have success if you stick to one thing ☺️ Let’s see what’s in store for us next! ❤️

Congratulations!! You are evolving. I go through spells, periods and phases~ basically, I enjoy exploring and learning various things. Regardless of how long I devote my attention and time to a subject, I never consider myself a “quitter” for moving on to something new or different. Likewise, I just ended a 19 yr career. Indeed I quit/accepted early retirement, but what I really did was reclaim my power to choose what I do, who I will do it with, where I’ll do it and for how long! Yippee!!! FREEDOM is beautiful!

I've struggled a lot with "having to niche" in a certain thing but yes this is limiting especially if you love different things and have different interests. So I've given up having 4 different instagrams and websites and such and just doing what I love in one place. Have fun with the drawing and illustration!

I think, if we’re honest, all creatives go through phases of needing to step away or step back from something. I’ve done it for sure. I stepped back from writing for a little over a year. I’m just now getting back to it and it feels good. I think if we don’t go through or acknowledge phases like that, we run the risk of stagnating and getting burnout. So stepping back is actually a form of self-care.

Im with you on this. Im a photographer and just decided to quit instagram recently. At first just to try, no big goal. Then eventually recently that Instagram was actually killing my creativity. Thinking that whatever is there is the only accepted standard of art while algorithm is in charge of the game. Another thing I have gained from quitting is mental clarity. This has been a huge difference I can definitely see. Im in a middle of growth right now and I feel it's great that I decided to quit to be able to properly listen to my Inner and Higher Self instead of scrolling and seeing what everyone else is doing (or copying). :) Good on you! I love your content. I love the bravery in being vulnerable in front of us all. All the best! :)

Wonderful! I wish you all the best in your creative journeys. I have often thought how such platforms allow us to create and build audiences, over time they do stifle our creativity and need to develop new ideas. We then end up losing the community we built. However the true community will stay with you because they wish you the best. I have watched your journey. You have taught me SO MUCH. I love your creativity and vulnerability and your courage. I was beginning to suspect something when you started sharing more knitting videos but as a long time knitter myself, I welcomed it and clapped my hands with delight. I’m onboard! All the best with your journey. You’ll be fine! Onwards and upwards.

It’s really great to hear you say this! I see you as a successful RU-vidr and very talented human and it makes me feel so much better about my decision to stop my RU-vid Channel last year. Mine was a food channel, showing chefs cook in their restaurants. But the restaurants wouldn’t pay me so I had to pay for my cameraman, music I’d want to add etc, and as much as I enjoyed it, I felt I was doing this because I was enjoying it but it was about promoting others with no financial reward which I needed. Funny enough I decided to go back to my main passion photography, and put all the effort I was putting in the RU-vid channel to my personal photography. Best decision I made but I did feel like a failure but after watching this I don’t feel that way any more. So, thank you! ❤️

Good luck on your journey! I had been on food photography for a couple of years, toyed with the idea of doing it freelance, but eventually I felt that I didn't know why I kept shooting the same kinda things over and over again. Eventually I put my camera down, and now only shoot when I truly feel inspired. I don't know if I'll ever get the same feeling of shooting daily (or almost daily) again, but I've coincidentally also been learning procreate and learning to draw. Something I've wanted to do since I was a kid but society tells us that arts ain't important and so I never really spent effort at that though I love it. I'm sure you'd do better than I am, but it's all a process of learning for all of us. That's what life is about I think! ❤️

I know very well the feeling that I have to keep some things to myself. Because if I share it (too soon) with others, then it no longer belongs to me or then it is guided in other directions by their expressions. Some things I keep only for myself, then they can grow in peace and make their way to the surface at their own pace. In any case, do what your heart tells you. I can well imagine how much a constant publicity can affect creativity or inner freedom. Some things belong to us alone...

Hello, my first time to see you. Yes, quitting the right thing at the right time is just a little bit hard. I have been driving a school bus for 33 years now, and I know a few things and wanted to advance but was not given the chance. However, I am deciding to quit being interested in advancing. It's hard for me, but I have chatted with my son and was comforted by the fact he heard me out. This helped me to make the decision easier. So, yes, saying "I quit " to the right thing is a good thing to do. Thanks for sharing this insight. Good luck with your channel

I am grateful for that chapter & I can always pick it up again if it suits and you can too! I love what I have created and I know it will always be apart of me but now I can enjoy it more when I do choose it again. Congratulations on your decision & I thoroughly enjoy all your videos, photography know how, knitting & fun behind every moment you create! Thank you all the way from the Blue Mountains, Australia. 💗🇦🇺🥰😘

I agree with you completely. Quitting is healthy..but a better word than ‘quitting’ might be exploring new paths. You don’t quit skills you have built up, but you take steps forward and visit new places with those skills under your belt. I often move on in this way, but always find that things I have enjoyed in the past add to what I do next, they don’t just get abandoned…Good luck with your new map.

very brave & inspiring to talk about real stuff. big heart & big mind stuff. i truly appreciate you! please know that whatever you do (or don't do) it doesn't change your worth. you are valuable unconditionally- without conditions! food for thought: is quitting another word for surrender? or acceptance? say "yes"with power & "no" with peace love & good vibes to you from texas♡

Good on you. I don't think its quitting. Like a lot of your supporters have already said: life changes. I believe that as changes come along whether subtly or suddenly, you find that your priorities change, and you need to make decisions for the betterment of yourself. You have to do what's right for you and if that means ending something you have done for a long time - then it must be done. But oh the thrill of starting a something new. This keeps us growing and alive and joyful. All the very best to you as you find what your next passion is.

Jeeee ihanaa! I just listened to the Beyond the To-Do List podcast, where Stanley Robertson was as a guest, talking about why quitting is important. He also mentioned that Vince Lombardi quote - yes it works in his context (in a game), but it's not a good quote to live life by 😅

I have to admit that, for quite a time, I watched your videos just because of you and your lovely attitude, not any more for the content, for it seemed to sort of repeated itself (but still was entertaining to watch - because of you!). So, as long as there ist still ANY content, I don't care if it's photography, knitting, cats or anything else ;-) It inspires me because YOU inspire me. Love from Germany!

Oh how I feel this. I was a very busy professional photographer and I pretty much quit because I was working wayyyyy to much band got sick. Now I’m trying to learn watercolor. And I love it even more than photography. Learning something new is exciting and life is happier now. Just do it.

It's your life - the most precious gift you've gotten. Use it for your happiness and not for "numbers" or algorythm in social media. I'm sure a lot of followers will stay, some will leave - so what. Life is a constant change. Follow your own path and do what makes you happy. I wish you tons of luck.

I started watching your channel because I was looking for vloggers from Finland, Estonia, etc. I stayed not because of photography content but more your videos on life perspectives and being a creative person, which I really resonate with. (I've enjoyed your photography for sure, but enjoy the other things you do and share about as well.) Would love to learn more about Finnish culture if you are inclined to share. Excited to see what comes next for you! And perhaps I'll learn how to knit! :-)

We came for your photography but stayed for your personality 💛 so that way this channel is still relevant for me personally. Also, if I'm in a creative rut I can always go back to your older videos.. there's so much inspiring material! Can't wait to see where life takes you now and what you grow curious about and get creative with 💛 good luck!

Hi Kika, I think it's the first time I leave you a comment even though I've subscribed you early and already watched lots of your videos. I got to know you from your knitting collection video, then recently when I'm tracing back through your previous videos about photography and your own stories, I feel starting to know you more like a friend. I'm in a quite similar situation like you've been before, living in Italy for two years as a Chinese who is super introvert speaking Italian and English around, just graduated and so confused to decide the next step. Maybe I'm too strick with myself as I always doubt my abilities. Just like that book tells us, I should let go some restrictions in my mind and stop underestimate my value. Thank you for bringing me so many encouraging contents so far, I believe in your decision.❤️

Hi Kika! I’ve just discovered you these last few days as I started knitting around Christmas time and I’m so glad I found you! I’ve also decided to quit something regarding my work so I can focus more on my creative goals (I work in tv production) so your message is very inspiring and motivating! :) I just ordered Drops yarn to try the Sunday brunch sweater!!! Looking forward to seeing your upcoming knitting videos. Thank you! :)

I am so freaking happy I found this because I just did the same thing! I had a RU-vid that just reached 10k and I decided to stop posting a create a new channel because the audience I created there was only there for art tutorials which I stopped doing. I felt like I couldn't share anything outside of that because no one liked it. makes me feel so much better that I'm not the only one
