Came here to say that too. I would have waited until the engine and sheet metal was in before cutting anything. Also would never cut more than 1 coil (360 degrees) at a time.
x3. Patience. Measure 2x cut 1x. You reduced the potential of that spring by a lot. They were progressive and you cut off the small-bump compliance part. IMO you will be wanting another set for a do-over. I don't know if you remember individual commenters, but I usually have positive comments. I like the wheel color fwiw.
The Red color of the rims works fine. But I think it would look better with that kind of Bronze color that you did on the control arm. And it's a bit low for my taste, but man I am really in awe of your confidence and mechanical skills. Doing these whole builds yourself. . . most impressive. Even though I might not have made some of the same decisions, I really have a lot of appreciation for the amount of time and effort put into any project like this. Love it, Austin! Keep it up.
Move your front lower shock mounts above the arm. with the mount under the arm all of the load is being put on the bolts only. i know they're mounted like that from the factory but the shocks are separate from the spring from factory.
I'd swap out all those springs for air ride suspension. And paint the truck black and spray the bed with bed liner then put a fiberglass bed cover over it with a hydraulic 12 volt lift on it. Then put turquoise led strips underneath it! Wow would look sweet with the rims on it!
Geometry is definitely nicer now. I had reservations about the red from the get go (when you powdercoated the springs) -- I was hoping you'd stick with the bronze color that you used for the other components underneath. Now, it's growing on me and I think you need to add more red accents. Maybe a pin-stripe? It's always a toss up with these "patina finishes." Hard to choose what color goes well with rust.
Wheel looks nice! You have all the cool gadgets! I'll have to hunt you down if I need anything. lol I'm a few hours south of you but have lots of friends where you live. Keep up the good work. I look forward to seeing more videos in the future !
It Looks SOOO cool! My first drive was a Mazda B2500 lowered, tinted glass, custom bed tool storage and a big audiosystem - loved it right until I crashed it 😅
Looks good dude, I had a lowered 84 Chevy S10 in high school and have been looking for a 2wd S10 in Alaska to lower for at least 10 years. Well yesterday I found one. I’m gonna pick that thing up and lower it, maybe do a patina paint job etc. thanks for posting
Love the look keep going the red and white is awesome gos great with it being a Japanese mini truck reminds me of the red sun on japans flag I have the same plans on doing my 1984 Nissan 720d pick up, love the truck it will be amazing when finished
I'm really liking the hilux build and I'm looking forward to the land cruiser. I always have a hard time with the way Toyota designed the transition between the cab and the bed. That step is hideous to me. I like what you're doing though and I like your attention to detail. Especially with the interior. Great job man. Keep it coming.
It's crazy on that generation of truck, it's like they had two different design teams working on the cab and bed, then they just stuck them together when they were done.
Right , with mine the rocker panels rusted out so im trimming them off basically and welding on some slanted steal panels then dropping the bed onto the frame to stream line that shit a bit lol 😆
I know this is you’re project but I really wish you would make the body look as great as everything else you have done. Either way great job on the progress.
Looking good Austin! Why would Toyota not line up the bottom of the bed line up with the cab? Can’t Un-see it for the life of me haha…must be addressed.
Well no guts no glory... normally one coil.. then add the weight check the height... .not mention the ride quality. Going to be stiff... oh well it's a good look. I remember when those trucks were new. I was a young man then lol... we sure liked them. But admittedly... those were some ugly utilitarian trucks lol... stuff some low profile skate board wheels and tires on them. Some form of homemade shell on the back.. fog lights... bull bar... c.b. and mirror mounted antennas... west coast trucker mirrors ! Lol 😆 we have thankfully come a long way since then. Oh my goodness I almost forgot.. the black rubber fender flair extensions and mud flap in the back.... and if you were really cool 😎... a chain steering wheel. The stepside 4wd Chevy Luv truck was the hot ticket to compete with Toyota. Then cruise Columbia River park.
A Lowred car always makes me happy , it didn't change my mind about it because i knew it look awesome when it is on the right ride hight , i think cherry and white isnot the best combination but its not that I hate it , would proudly drive it i do like the cherry red u pick the color is pretty , i would be okay with the black wheels on a white car because I like that combination , personally my car is black with black wheels and i like that also white car on white wheels . If u like it you should ride it that way it does look awesome in the sun . If i could pick a color for us truck it would be black or nardo grey or even white i don't dislike the white at all I'm not a pantina fan 😂
I really didnt wanna give my 2 cents on your work but since youve asked more then once. I think everything you do is pretty sick. I love any 4x4/ off-road capable vehicles (mainly Toyotas) im not really into mini trucks or the rat rod Patina look but I get it, your pumping out steady projects/videos and they cant all be the same. But honestly I really Hate the burgundy wheels, this whole project is not my thing but i really hope you decide re powder them black lol. I still watch all the videos even if what your working on isn’t my thing. Your definitely one of if not my favourite “youtubers” but Cant wait tor this one to be completed and bring on the FJ.
I've been enjoying this build, hate the bottom of the bed on these , I know you don't want to do the body but man it would look good if you did something with the bed and kept going with the white paint
Well you're not going to be hauling wood...so maybe some slick spacer with your notch cut between the fenderwells with plexiglass so you can see your custom work...IDK? 🍻
Looks great dude , r u going to keep that 20 r in it ? If so please tell me its busy getting built lmao 🤣 I'm keeping the 20r in my 77 been looking for a 22r block though going to rebuild exhaust intake ect , can't wait to to be cruising pacific coast highway 😎 😄 😅
What I did on mine was put flat NASCAR style exhaust tips to fill that Gap the only other option is the section that lower body and add a piece of metal bring the body line down to match the cab and then cutting the cab pinch weld or folding it back to line everything else up
I also noticed body line to load bed issue too...id cut lower panel and extend to match body line....english wheel planishing hammer and BOBs your uncle....my opinion 😆😆😆
Looks sharp but get ready to strap a kidney belt on for that daily ride. Holy have no spring ride. Digging the build though as i love lowered trucks. Being an owner of a lowered 69 C/10 LS powered.
Once you get the truck running, you should get New custom springs. Also, imho, the body is too far gone for running the "patina" look. I would rectore the body as well. Just my opinión.
Love your work dude but don’t agree with cutting those front coils, sure you’ll get the height you want but it’ll ride like a tractor, looks aren’t everything, function is important as well.
Because you don't have an engine in it, you may regret cutting those springs off, cuz everything is going to change once you do have the motor in! Good luck.
