Yup, hate all the bully boy shit, I treat all mine as I'd treat anyone, with respect. Having your spirits crushed everyday doesn't make a loyal workmate
constantly moaning at your laborer makes him not want be there, praise him and he will excel and enjoy his job. luckily when i 1st started my boss and Forman that taught me everything would have a crack but never put me down and still working with 1 of them now, going on 10yrs maybe more now.
Since i started my company in 1987, i have trained and helped train 14 apprentices 13 have qualified including my 3 daughters, and i currently have 2 more at the moment. Seeing the way you talk to drew and teach him, is exactly the way it should be done and the way i hope i train the next generation of sparks working for me. You are a credit sir, and at such a young age, you have certainly got a promising career ahead of you. Keep it up and keep the great vids coming.
You are a credit to your industry and your parents , your work ethic is second to none , hopefuly the weather is improving so you can crack on and get off the job, didnt realise you were building a citadel. You are a professional
Could not have put it better Berry. The trade is in good hands with guys like him. I had the fortune to work with a few guys like him over the years. You need a sense of humor, calmness and respect for workmates. All these and your half way there.
How enriching to see a skilled man keen to do a good job. My Dad was a project engineer. I remember him saying to me, if you're going to do a job, do it properly.
Iv been laying bricks 30 years so I'm an old fart 😅, trust me you are doing the right thing I remember the days like you that I just loved laying Bricks, wanted to be the fastest and neatest. Non of us want to take the responsibility of supervisor but If you are good at what you do it just happens. I'm now running massive multi million pound jobs in London and have been for 10 years with one of the biggest brickwork contractors out there. It's hard and I don't lay Bricks but I'm passing my knowledge to other people which is good. I'd love to be house building it's such an simple process and the buzz of a small gang working and having the craic is fantastic. Good luck mate and keep up the good content as it's so different from what I do and it reminds me of the good old days. 👍
If you were a bricklayer. Time served. You'll still be a bricklayer til the day you die. Mental health issues do not cause you to no longer be a bricklayer.
Thanks mate and if your ever struggling, there's some great resources out there's specifically for construction workers. Check out the Lighthouse Club and Mind Your Head Podcast. (MYHP on Instagram) All the best mate
Great Vid Izzy. I run my own business (Gen Builder) its a major step up from just laying, but being in control has its benefits, its not easy, its time consuming but when you get customers loving what you've built its very satisfying. You have proved yourself to be more than capable of doing the Foremans job, rectifying poor brickwork and levels when 1st on site, your organised and have a great work ethic. Your a credit to the industry. Take the challenge and run with it, the experience will be worth it.
Yes mate lovely job as always some graft that especially loading the mortar out by yourself 💪 glad to see how well drew coming along be on the trowel full time soon 🧱 loving the new weekly episodes keep up the great work
Yet another awesome video. Useful tips but also some behind the scenes and what it involves to take responsibility. I actually started my brick apprenticeship because I have had a lot of stress, management and responsibility previously and I just want an easier life and to enjoy the bricks! I got offered trainee site manager a couple of weeks back and I turned it down, to their absolute shock! Good to get your honesty and I would say with 100% certainty that you are up for the task on this one! Keep it up! Jen 💥
Hiya Jen! Glad you enjoyed the video and found some parts quite helpful ☺️ next video I go over soldier course really simply! Sometimes it's best to do what makes you happy, rather than deal with constant stress and pressure, so fair play to you! Have a great week!
Great video, like the way your teaching Drew. I run my own business general building and always run the job It has its stressful moments but also it’s gratifying moments when you can see how happy your customer is with the end result I look at it as turning dreams into reality Keep up the good work
Love the Trowel switch! That will add fuel to the Trowel Wars! Good luck being the head man at the very least you'll learn more about the business which will benefit you the long run!
Hey Izzy great video love your enthusiasm and your professionalism also think your a credit to your trade the way your encouraging your mate, keep up the good work pal.
Great stuff mate. Onto the next level. Just don't wear yourself out bud. No shame in taking a step back if it turns out to be too much. I know you'll make a go of it though, for the benefit it'll make to you and Drew in the future 👌🏻
Thanks Robin! Yea your totally right, if I don't feel this is for me, I can easily go and just continue laying bricks on site/subbing to someone else ☺️
I'm not a bricky and I'm not planning on doing any bricklaying yet I've been watching your videos for about an hour and a half now. Great content, well produced, love the enthusiasm and the high quality work mate!
@@IzzytheBricky . No problem at all buddy 😁. Hope this week hasn’t wrecked your head too much . When I was an apprentice we had got a big detached up to plate, it had four windows 2 up 2 down and a big central arched window on the stairs . Brick up to joist then block and render above to have Tudor timbers on top ( 🤢it was the eighties 🤣🤣) anyway one night after a howler the whole front blew in and took most of the Floor with it, 😱 good job it happened over night. Anyway my grumpy boss was very grumpy that week . It’s a horrible feeling finding it and gut wrenching re building the same wall . Good luck with the supervisory role but don’t let them take the piss 🤙🏾🤙🏾🧱👍🏽😉
Ur Great teacher, I’m a young lad worked with a fair few people and no one has put the same attention to detail with the teaching as u do with ur lad, well done mate quality to see, even teaching ur viewers along the way, can’t be easy but your smashing it mate keep it up 💪🏼.
I think I’d love working for/with you. Respectful , encouraging, skilled, polite. Nothing like the typical angry brick I use/builders I’ve worked with before. Top notch work well done
pride in your work wins every time. you had great teachers BUT you listened and learned so well. pleasure to watch you work. you are right to do what makes you happy.
i'm not a brickie, why am i watching? because it is so rewarding watching a craftsman at work. be safe in the knowledge that your excellence helps build others. its a joy to watch you and your work., thanks for sharing.
Going to build a BBQ for myself this summer so been sweating your videos trying to get a better grasp of things. Another great video mate always interesting.
Ultimate respect! Its hard to learn a trade its even harder to do a video whilst training an apprentice and showing him an us the correct ways to do it. We need more people like you in the building trade.the apprentices are the future of the building industry. Top job im enjoying your videos.thumbs up
Spot on. Isaac and Drew no job to tough for you lads. Hard grafters. Well done good to see. Blessed with the powerful name of Isaac you were destined to take the lead😁 Great the way you give Drew encouragement too. Drew your coming along nicely. HALLELUJAH LADS SHALOM🙌
The way you teach your boys your positivity and your calmness you will have no trouble taking on the xtra responsibility your a natural leader and very likeable goes so far when dealing with all the other trades (and tards) Top man !
Thanks mate! I really enjoy trying to teach anyone really. Because I'm relatively "new" to the trade, I can relate quite well as it wasn't too long ago I was having the same issues, so they are easy to understand and correct! Have a great week
Really encouraging seeing a focused young man who takes pride in his work and has an exemplary attitude. If only all young men could follow the same example 👍
Class Izzy my man! Brilliant to see drew coming along nicely aswell! Love the videos bro, I’ve just left site work to go on to commercial builds so your videos are not only brilliant to watch but helpful aswell bud 👍👍
Love the staying positive Izzy and yes the paperwork, wages and all that has to go with it as you grow. Time and time again I use to leave that to just lay some bricks to clear the head. As you grow buddy maybe think, as I did, which again is more money, but worth it, employ a good QS, the time and agro that saves is well worth it. Keep it neat, fast and plumb which is all I see at the minute, so well done buddy. Maybe time to think of getting your own wheelbarrow scaffold fixed hoist, again well worth the money, and a very good forward looking health thought to save a lot of lumping and leg work.
Hi Izzy, I came across your channel accidentally a couple of days ago and now I'm totally hooked! I love it! Fascinating to hear your thoughts while you are working. It's great to see the way you are bringing on your Apprentice, active instruction and encouragement. (No need to tear someone a second arseole) I was a Shipwright Apprentice back in the 60s, and I must have been very lucky. Because in all of my 5 years of that Apprenticeship, I was trained by many skilled men and not one of them had a go at me for making a mistake. (And believe me, I made some beauties!) We had some great laughs. Anyway, I digress. I've now subscribed and I'm looking forward to enjoying more of your uploads!
Thanks so much for your support mate, really appreciate it and great to hear you've been enjoying the videos ! Everyone trips up and makes mistakes..even now! New video out later on today
Great work again Izzy👏👏😎😎👍👍❤❤ I totally agree business is just that business no friends in business cannot afford to make the wrong mistakes in business but you can make a world of difference to Drews work and other apprentice's brill take care buddy keep up great work. 👍👍
I actually like the timechecks he gives as it gives a good sense of scale and effort it takes. 25 buckets mixed and up a ladder in an hour is showing off - I'd manage about half that on a good day!
Well done Isaac, doin a great job and I think you’d make a great business owner and eventually maybe building multiple homes at once or big bespoke builds. Keep reaching up mate, coz you will be awesome at it
Very nice to see your work with bricks! Soon, the two of us will start bricklaying our own house. So, it is always good to watch a nice work like yours.
Well done drew, it's not easy to start with but once you get the hang of it you will smash it im just over a year in to laying was hod carrying for 5 years then the boss offered to teach me and I've not looked back since, keep it up and well done again
Drew is doing so well mate! Coming on leaps and bounds! He's a credit to me and a genuine lad, hence why I really don't mind taking so much time to go over anything with him
Great content and a great channel! Ive recently starting my own channel and cant begin to imagine the amount of time and effort that goes into the productions of these videos! Keep them coming 😃
Loving this. I’m only a DIY self builder managing my two story extension and labouring on some good trades I have in the contacts. Your vids are great viewing .
@@IzzytheBricky cheers for the reply. Yes indeed one of the hardest days graft was keeping two brickies going with blocks and muck all day on my place!!!!
Top rate video again izzy it's great how you treat your staff you will get more out of them being nice Costco it the best I haven't been in years keep up the good work
Costco blew my mind 😂😂😂 always try to be good to my mates on site. No-one wants to get berated all day. It might have worked for the people teaching me..but not my style😂
jesus i wish i was taught like this holy cow its amazing. I got tied upside down and my bollocks black jacked for making a mistake. Good bricklayer and good teacher well done mate
Just clicked from my recommended, I didn’t realise how enjoyable I would find your trade. I work on cars atm I might have to trade in the spanner’s for the trowels. Subscribed
Why do non-bricklayers watch this? I work in an office in a job that has nothing to do with the building industry. Far far from it... but I watch all your videos. They're a big help to pickup tips and advice for my garden room build. And I like that sound of the trowel running along the bricks and blocks as you cut off the excess. Oddly calming...! More than that... you and the team are a happy and positive bunch and you encourage your apprentices. Drew is coming along fast and its good to see! Hoping you use that monster trowel on a windy day. Might just catch the wind and blow you down south so you can price me my extension.. 🤣
😂😂😂 love the last bit about the wind haha thanks so much for watching the videos mate I really appreciate it! Fantastic to see how many people's such as yourself can pick up tips from them! Drew is doing great! Have a good Sunday Jaimin! New video tomorrow ☺️
If that had been me, as I lifted the last bucket on to the deck, I would have slipped on the layer of sweat that I had left after lifting all the previous buckets. Shows some good fitness.
My father’s advice when I became a apprentice electrician “Don’t touch the black wire, and don’t arm wrestle with the trowel trades”He was color blind so if they weren’t white they were black.
My workplace closed down few weeks ago I was there nearly 8 years and I was made redundant so I've decided to take a few weeks to try and clear my head and redecorate / repair my house and I was considering trying to do a apprenticeship in brick laying I'm a 34 year old father of 2 so I was working 6-2 so I can pick my kids up and be home before my wife leaves for work and currently don't drive fingers crossed I can get my licence would my age or any circumstances go against me when it comes to applying for a apprenticeship loving watching the videos to pick up some little tips
Hi mate, sorry for the late reply! Very unfortunate that you've been made redundant, hope things are picking up for you! If your interested in becoming a Bricklayer, I would suggest becoming a "hod carrier" first. While your labouring, you can pick up the trowel and learn like that!💪 All the best, any questions just give me a message brother
The bricklayer that tought me was drew, a scots man great man, he taught me to focus on the top and bottom Harris of the bricks , lining them up , and then you wouldn't be far of .
That's it mate 💪 dead easy once you get it..but trying to explain to someone who doesn't understand what they are looking for feeling for, is very hard 😂
I'm not in the industry. I left school and went into an apprenticeship was bullied gave up the trade. Was nailed to the walls, had expanding foam in my hair and had the p**s taken out of me. You're really good mentor for the apprentice's. I now run my company in a completely different industry. Has inspired me to take on a T level work experience. I'm crazy busy, so just trying to workout if I can afford the time they deserve. Love the videos 😎👍
When i was a first year apprentice i had this forman that used to yell if you hit the brick more then twice with your trowel to get the brick down to the line. He says if you hit the brick with your trowel more then twice you are not laying brick right and you are wasting the companys money because you are taking to much time laying the brick, but i was always told by the union that as a apprentice your job is to lay the brick to the line no matter how long it takes. The forman is a company man and wants bricks to be laid fast.
Hi, been watching your work and progress a while now. Well done and grab the opportunities that come your way and see where it takes you! How about adding a small electric hoist to the scaffold on a swivel jib to save all that climbing up and down the ladders with buckets of compo/bricks/blocks?
Thanks so much and thank you again for watching for a while ☺️ definitely going to sort some sort of system out soon mate! Not got long left here anyway now 💪
