When they integrated it into Star Wars 7, 8, 9 I wanted to kill myself. It just wasn't the type of 'humor' Star Wars was known for or done. I had never watched MCU aside from Ant man and Age of Ultron when they released, those two left a bad taste in my mouth before I sat down and actually watched everything through endgame. I hated how comedic marvel movies were, but didnt understand at the time they were literally just taking the most popular character (Tony) and applying his mannerisms and comedic value to everything. Biggest offender is Thor. You can actually see how they changed his character from Serious Funny to Tony Funny. Edit: I should add I did enjoy the MCU ride. I watched it with friends who had not rewatched them all so it was a great experience for us all. But you can totally see where the movies transition into that comedic Tony style.

I feel like annother big contributor to the whole thing is the stakes. Back when it was just the city of New York or the survival of some citizens the stakes feel grounded and real. With the whole “saving the world” thing being thrust in every single film, nothing feels notable and the tension is immediately gone. With invincible however, the stakes are real as it is established throughout the series that heroes can’t save everyone. And by having spent time with the one civilian Mark hurt, people aren’t just faceless casualties. This is also shown pretty well in The Boys, since avenging a dead girlfriend and having the villains being powerful people that abuse their power feel far more real than anything marvel has pumped out as of late. So yeah, grounded stakes good.

I don't think it's bad to have grand "save the world" stakes, but at certain point, the stakes get so great that they're hard to tell apart. Netflix made their Marvel shows that did really well but the MCU wiped those out but still dangle them in front of those shows fans while disregarding the shows in their universe. There are shows that are supposed to be connected that no one saw like Hit Monkey, MODOK, Cloak and Dagger and they don't matter at all. The Disney Plus shows barely have any connection via their characters but almost none in regards to story. The next shows to be released include Spider-Man Freshman Year which shows Peter dealing with Dr. Octopus, Scorpion, Chameleon, Norman Osborne taking him on as a mentor figure just like Tony Stark did but before he did. All that is supposed to be canon now when it never happened before and that makes no damn sense. The movies have become just as vapid and worthless with Phase 4 having almost as many movies as Phases 1 and 2 combined but it all seems so aimless.

There are so many types of humor/comedy out there and with all the heroes different life experiences, I imagine they would all develop different types of humor. Edit to Clarify: I would like a serious Marvel movie as well, I doubt we’ll get it because they’re making so much money on their little comedy specials. All I’m saying is that if we’re going to have to deal with so much comedy, I would like some variety.

I think in DC's defence, at least they're much more willing to experiment than Disney with their conveyor belt, quantity over quality mindset. Over the last few years we've had director-led films like Joker, The Batman and the Snyder Cut of Justice League that are more dynamically shot, scored and acted than anything the MCU has churned out lately, perhaps ever. I liked No Way Home a lot but let's be honest, it was very reliant on nostalgia. Yeah the clueless execs at Warner Bros have mishandled the DCEU terribly and made some awful decisions, but at least you're more likely to be surprised and left with a lasting impression with DC than Marvel.

The problem with superhero movies nowadays is that they all want multiple year long continuities and storylines to catch the lighting-in-a-bottle that was Infinity war. It’s not happening. For a new fan coming into the MCU from the first Avengers, all they had to watch was the first two Iron Mans, Captain America, Hulk and Thor. For a new fan to the MCU they have roughly 23 movies to watch with about seven or eight tv shows to get to the same level as a legacy viewer. That’s going to be a huge haemorrhage when new viewers don’t watch and let’s face it, the Marvel movies are incredibly formulaic unlike Star Wars where at least each one was different. This is exactly why I felt like The Batman was such an enjoyable movie. It broke out of the typical superhero movie formula that marvel has been recycling since Endgame (which is sad considering Moon Knight had a lot of potential before it was ruined). It was a very grounded movie with slow pacing that fit with the plot, and it still didn't compromise on humour with scenes like Penguin's interrogation by Batman and Gordon. Even characters that people found funny, like Paul Dano's Riddler, still felt menacing and demented and the humour didn't take away from them or make them silly in any way. I was really hoping Love and Thunder would have a similar vibe and pacing, with an almost serial killer-like feel, having Thor (and company) investigate a series of god-killings trying to track down Gorr while being under the threat of getting killed himself, forcing him to be wary and more mature. Instead we got Gorr the Child Kidnapper and a bunch of mid-2000s movie humour. Such a waste of potential (and Christian Bale).

Comparing dc to marvel, or expecting the later to make movies with the same level of darkness and depth as the former is asking a bit much. While the later dc stuff has been a little brighter and the marvel stuff has attempted something a little darker, nether can pull off what the other does. It's not that I dislike superheroes, it's just I'm tired of that pegi 12 thing and being treated like a child. There are no deep moments in superhero movies anymore, there's no reading between lines. We're all treated like children with some cool explosions and repetitive heroes. That's the reason The Boys is so good to me. I don't feel like I'm being treated like an idiot there. It doesn't water down on reality, the characters are so flawed and well-written and there is so much more to it like real meaningful moments, dark and twisted humour because they treat their audience like adults and so much satire and mockery of our real world that it has become part of the humour.

This is why Joker and logan to some extent was refreshing even though it was still part of a franchise it felt like it's own thing and they tried to do something different with it. I'm not necessarily over superhero movies i'm just over the exact same ones in these giant franchises with the same formulas. I want to see more smaller superhero movies where indies can be creative like chronicle. Giant hollywood studios are way too afraid of stepping into unknown territory at the risk of maybe losing money, they find what works and then over the course of 20 years they drive it into the ground, same shit happens with video games (ubisoft being the most obvious example).

" I want unique stories...not the same thing rehashed over and over and over again." Tough shit, cause we've had the same shit rehashed over and over since the mid 90s. It's not really a super hero thing, it's just how movies are made. Once you know the formula it is extremely hard to enjoy movies afterwards... It's like how knowing a good bit about music makes most pop music damn near unlistenable.... It's the same shit over and over.. Same chords, same damn arpeggios and progressions. Hell, most of it is white keys only these days, cause why learn anything but Am and C? The movie formula was perfected before 2000, and that's why everything after 2000 is just remakes and knockoffs. The only new thing to actually happen to movies after the 90s were high quality super hero movies. Now that's been run into the ground because innovation is hard. Once super hero movies go away, what we'll be left with are more stories you've heard a million times told according to the allmighty formula. Event - bad turn - victory for ever. 3 chapters, same story, mostly the same actors over and over.. Movies kinda suck.

Definitely agree, every marvel movie feels so formulaic that you know exactly what's gonna happen and when it happens. Thor love and thunder was so hard to watch at times with the never ending forced humour in the face of death, its so tiring. However The Batman was very enjoyable, probably the first superhero movie I've really enjoyed since Endgame. people say this a lot "marvel is too formulaic" but honestly I don't see anything wrong with that? The MCU is clearly on a set path that's well thought out by that whole division or whoever tf makes the mcu. The characters are likable, they're pretty and well made movies? Like I really don't understand the criticism... Every time the internet loses their mind about how a marvel movie is "SOOOO BADD" I go and watch it and find out that its not that bad. like consistently people overreact with marvel, captain marvel, watched it, it was an ok film black widow, it was an OK film hawkeye, was probably the worst of the bunch but was STILL ok, I still enjoyed it. thor love and thunder was a GOOD movie. ms marvel was obviously made for teenagers and it was pretty good, I enjoyed it. and lastly, moon knight, I was told, was absolutely god awful and the cgi made people vomit. that was a straight up fuckin lie, moon knight was fire, the actor was really good and the CGI dipped literally once on the first episode, the rest of the show it ranged from good to REALLY GOOD. lack of direction is also the exact problem with the DC movies for me. These movies, They feel completely directionless, like they have no idea where they're going. I've seen batman v superman, both justice leagues, both suicide squads AND shazam AND wonderwoman. They all seemed completely directionless like they were all going in complete different directions.

@@thepopo592 I get what you're saying but a "well thought out path" is not the same as being formulaic. They're doing the same thing in every single movie, of course people get tired of it. It's like eating the same meal every day, only the meal aint steak or pizza but the slop that they feed to pigs. Thor was so disappointing to me, like the humor wasn't even funny. Chris Hemsworth is the only reason someone would want to watch that. There's no stakes either which makes the action lose all its value. And the romance was so forced and terrible. The script was a slap in the face to such talented actors, because they all have amazing depth but it was watered down in that movie. It's not that the movies are so bad to the point of repulsion, it's that they all are the same and have absolutely no depth to them. I tried so hard to just feel something during that movie but I just felt empty. Storytelling in general is very formulaic, it's about how the story is told that makes it worth seeing the same tropes.

I genuinely hope Disney dissolves as a company, the death of Marvel isn't enough anymore I love superhero content but Marvel is just dry and exhausting to sit through. I tried seeing the Wanda/Dr. Strange movie with my family and it was just. Boring. No real stakes, no real or compelling morality, no interesting characters or themes. It just feels empty. Marvel and Star Wars were big movies when I was a child/young teenager, and both franchises have been run into the ground and murdered. Not worth time or money anymore.

Hard disagree. Disney sucks ass, but there are people such as Dave Filoni who know how star wars should be done. Can't really say the same for marvel though. Marvel ended after endgame for me. But serious aside from the sequel trilogy, I've enjoyed everything else star wars under disney has put out.

Or build up some big bad evil mastermind only to just cut him in half the first scene he's actually in, leaving the franchise villainless so you try and push a man baby, which doesn't work, or dig up the corpse of the last big baddy which also didn't work

@goosnavslakovic4908
@goosnavslakovic4908 2 года назад
@Jacques Guerrier you're taking a singular factor that made one movie not good equating it to how a company now treats a whole series. The difference between the prequel failures and Disney's star wars failures are that George Lucas was not the best director, but had vision and direction. The prequels failed in terms of pacing, plot, and acting. But the ideas which Lucas used to create the prequels was still there and came to life with the clone wars, where Dave Filoni, someone who shared a similar vision, took those ideas, and smoothed out the surface level errors made by Lucas. And what came of it was a series which saw so much strong fan support and excitement that it was brought back from the dead. You don't have to like the clone wars era (most original star wars fans dont) but the amount of interest in that time period is substantial. Now let's take a look at Disney. A directionless trilogy, with all the tropes, idiosyncrasies, and plot points of the original series, but with none of the meaning, imagination, or care as the first two trilogies. I don't know a better example of corporate money siphoning than with the sequel trilogy and much of its similar content. It was so lifeless and offered nothing but a title. The problems ran much deeper than the actors or dry romance like the prequels. It was a safe title boasting game which insulted the Fandom to its core, and has no tangible defense or audience to support it. That's why Disney ruined star wars. Not just because of some bad movies. And just to spit on the beat horse, they open a hotel where they charge thousands of dollars for a brand name. If that's not another similar symptom of the same consistent Disney problem, I dont know what else could be.
