I'm Writing A Book! (And it has nothing to do with this channel!)

I'm working on a book version of my Alaska shortline railroad project (available here: saveitforparts.wordpress.com/....
This really has nothing to do with the channel or my other videos, but it is one of my ongoing projects. And this channel is kind of a video tour of all my projects and hobbies, so why not include this one!
I've been working on this off and on since about 2013 at least. Wow, was that over 10 years ago now? People often ask how I have time to do so many projects, but when the projects take over a decade to get somewhere, is it really that impressive? 😅
I'll make sure to follow up on this when it gets to be an actual book!

The thing that is so appealing about your videos is they really feel like old RU-vid. There isn't any upbeat editing, clickbait thumbnails, or titles riddled with random overexaggerated words/statements. It's just a guy in front of a camera talking/demonstrating things he is passionate about.

I am really grateful that you document an obscure aspect of history that would otherwise be lost to time. Especially pre-Internet content is so volatile. Paper archives and institutions fade away, get lost or burn. The Internet and books don't go away. I have strictly no interest in the subject, but appreciate its nerdyness and am very grateful that you put so much energy into documenting history.

Btw you probably already are familiar with their channel but "Way Out West" from Ireland probably is right up your alley. Guy made his own narrow gauge industrial railway from trash and scrap. He uses it to bring in his garlic harvest and for making charcoal. Now he's working on a lightweight electric "car".

If a photo or anything else is in the Public Domain, it's in the Public Domain, period, and that's all you need. If you're hearing anything to the contrary from a library, etc., it's only because they want something in return which you are not obligated to provide.

You can run old photos through A.I. art programs that will bring the faded photos back to life. They won’t look like they were just taken, but they should be usable for printing. These programs can do amazing things that takes a while in photoshop. I’ve been a graphic artist for thirty years and working on a book as well, and have been using A.I. To help enhance these older photos. Also, check out the book “The Cloud-Climbing Railroad” by Dorothy Neal. It sounds like the book you are writing and since you love trains (as much as I do), you’ll like this read.

Ok, this is a great idea. I would spend my money on this book for 2 reasons. One reason is that railroads spark my interest. The second reason is that it is written by my favorite RU-vidr! This was uploaded 3 hours after the video's publish time. It is also a cool coincidence that I am also writing a book at this time, but not started in 2013. Also if you don't script your videos, your writing skills shouldn't be bad (scripting is usually short handed or words left out to let you know what to say)!

there is an amusement park in Marshall Wi called little america. Spelling i believe is a play on the owners name"meric". It was built around a private line. The train ran a couple mile loop, still does. Sometime in the late 90s they built the park but the train had been there as far back as I can remember. 70s. They reconditioned the train and made it part of the park experience.

I have my grandparent's old photos and there are a handful in the collection that are of some seriously nasty train wrecks. Nothing gory, just derailed and collided trains from pre ww2. I also currently live really near an old logging town, it was interesting to me to find out (by way of similar old maps) that all the popular main roads in the area once were railroad tracks during the great lumber boom in Washington state. I totally get the nerding out thing, we have and share a very rich, multifaceted history, these trains and rails bind us together more than we tend to realize. :)

A subject near and dear to my own interest. As a geologist in Fairbanks AK, I've spent weeks and weeks following old steel rails to now abandoned mines. Tripped over many pieces too. Ditto on walking miles and miles of the Davidson Ditch especially north of Fox Alaska. In part this was a section of the Tanana Valley RR. There were several small gauge rail systems just along side the Davidson Ditch that were used to haul pipe and supplies while they were building. Both stream driven locomotives as well as horse drawn units. Absolutely fascinating subject (and trails) once you get off the beaten path I will definitely buy a copy of your book. * For additional RR historic photos, have you checked the University Of Alaska Fairbanks Historical Archives? I believe its all on line.

I went to UAF so I've done some hiking around some of the same areas.
