So this father has protected this son from bullies, stood by him, accepted him. And just because he is late with a key, no matter the time frame, there was no reason to mace your father who has been there for you for just being locked out the house. This father does not reject his son, the son feels entitled and justified by his disrespectful behavior. Karamo missed on this one. I'm not homophobic but Karamo sided with the son because common path.

@@jailahthomas2104 I understand what Karamo was trying to do but I also understand the dad's ego in this situation. Bad behaviour shouldn't be reinforced. Actions have consequences and it's time children though "protected" needs accountability. Since respect is a two way thing why didn't the initial offender apologize first? For me, I side with the dad on this one, otherwise the child would feel entitled to just walk on his father. Sometimes we need to understand how difficult it is being a father. Then watch your lil child whose grown trying to disrespect you. It's the first hurt I have seen firsthand in many parent. It hurts when your adorable talk back at you, just as a junior worker talk back at his boss.

Karamo heard that the father called him the F word and he blanked out to what really happened. The son said he sprayed his father because the father called him the F word. When the father came out he said "No... I called him the F word after he sprayed me in the face and slammed and locked the door." Not one time did the son say that wasn't true. Remember the son also said he was very drunk. Normally Karamo does a great job bring families together but this time he completely failed.

@@elleenmusakwa72 to be fair. The father wasn't allowing Karamo to do his job. He is finding ways to hear the both of them to not play the blame game. He would get to him next... The father seems to not want to and would rather lose his son over one bad moment. They both fucked up and clearly they both act the same. But only one wanted to try to fix it. As much as I did not support his dad's action and expected him to show more maturity and acknowledge that he wants the relationship to be repaired, his son should take the greater part of the blame. On no occasion should you ever mace your dad. That is purely violent conduct, and I did not see him apologising for that action for once, and he showed no remorse either. If he had apologised for macing his dad, his dad would have been calmer. Also, I think Mr Karamo started with the wrong approach because the dad felt that he was on the side of his son; he could see the anger in his dad because of the fact that the son maced him; I felt the dad was still in shock that his son could mace him, so Karamo should have asked the son to apologise for that action first before any other intervention. I know he is a professional, but sometimes you have to leave what is in the book, feel the tension in the room, and find a practical strategy to resolve the issue. The dad refused to acknowledge that he wanted to repair the relationship because he felt Karamo was not appreciating his point of view, and his son showed no remorse for his actions.

Ya'll are so one-dimensional, damn. Imagine if it was a mixed race child and their white father called them a nigger. I swear black folks will excuse everything in the name of "respecting elders". Everyone was young once and if lucky, everyone will be an elder one day. Age has nothing to do with it. There are several context clues that the father is a loser and terrible father. First, his attitude. (did you even watch the episode?) Second, the fact that his other kids do not speak to him. Third, the fact that he wants brownie points for doing what a father SHOULD do. I'm sick of parents thinking they deserve respect for the bare minimum. Notice how he put the focus on what HE went through when talking about his friends talking shit about his child. No, you're an adult, you're supposed to DEFEND your child and let them ignorant ass friends blow away in the wind. He didn't even mention what his own son must have been feeling to have grown ass men chime in about him.

All that stuff that they are feeling has to do with them and not us. That daddy did nothing wrong. If I get maced, I’m calling you every name in the book. Clearly, the son was wilin out because he was mad and drunk. This had nothing to do with his sexuality. I love Karamo but he was trying to push that narrative on the son. I agree with Charleston White when he said, "Sometimes you gotta say "f" dem kids". 🤣Str8-up. I have a nephew, and a niece, that are both very disrespectful. Both are in their early twenties. As long as you are giving them what they want, when they want it, they are happy. Then they love you. As soon as you don't,... Or you try to discipline them simply by telling them that what they are doing, or saying is wrong,... They become very upset, and talk very disrespectful. They flip the table on you, and say, "I don't care if you are my parent, aunt, or grandparent. If I feel like you're talking/treating me in a disrespectful manner. I'm going to disrespect you right back". 😳 Oh helllll no!! I was raised to honor my parents, my elders, or etc. So I do not accept, or condone, this type of treatment from young people. At one point I was helping my niece with her rent, and buying her food. Once she began acting this way I put an end to it. I love her. Yet, from a distance. With a smart mouth like that,... She needs to learn how to make her own way in life. I also love my oldest nephew from a distance. He also talks to me very badly at times. So he too, must make his own way. He asked me to help him with his rent, and I told him no, as well. He made a very disgusting comment about my not working during my treatments for breast cancer 3 years ago. He was aware that I have a mental illness diagnosis, and had an open SSDI case. Well, since he talks to much,... He's on his own. "Sometimes you gotta say "f" dem kids". 🤣 And stick by it. I am pretty sure he would have acknowledged the son's angry reaction about the father being late and his disrespect, if the session wasn't cut short - which is why he kept telling the dad that he'd get to his hurt next. Many parents do not want to listen for real, they think they can say/do anything and their child still have to give them respect, and this was one. If he'd worked through the process I am almost sure he would have gotten the apology that he obviously needed.

Karamo was about to get to holding the son accountable for his intoxication and macing but the father was too narcissistic and arrogant to let him get there. The parents have to model the respect first. The father is visiting at his adult sons apartment and his request was to be there when he gets home from a party. His frustration is valid because he’s a young man who was intoxicated and just wanted to have a safe place to sleep in his own place. Parents can’t be surprised when their kids act a certain way as adults. It’s a reflection of how adults treated them when they were younger and defenseless. Now that they are adults and can speak up for themselves all of a sudden “they are disrespectful”. Clearly, the son needs to manage his anger better and work on respect but so does the father. Sometimes you need to learn when to let someone go if they are unwilling to do the work. 6:10

Exactly! Karamo is the one with actual experience here. There are too many people with this ego on here that want so bad for this father to be validated but the son to be invalidated. Both of them were wrong. Only one of them wanted to take a step into repairing the relationship.

Karamo was correct. He did not take sides. He took a therapeutic approach to the discussion. Acknowledgment of “the hurt” is the first step to healing. He told the father SEVERAL times he would address his pain. The father justified his actions and would only focus on his pain. You can make progress without this step.

This is why it's important to not just give your kids the world but prepare them for it. I can read deeper into the situation...I hear how he was making himself bigger than his dad financially talking about "He's living with me & he doesn't have a phone" Now I see exactly what's going on. He's one of those big me little you people, he knows his dad has a good heart that's why he wants to repair the relationship but he's to full of himself. I wouldn't ever talk to my dad like that if he took forever with my key I would've never given it to him again he'll just have to wait on me to get there next time & he did all of that in front of his dad's girlfriend ..SMH this new generation of kids get so much handed to them and they're still ungrateful
@opulence_prime
