I know a way to solve the dress falling down and drool situations: silicone. Along the bustline, it'll make the dress non-slip like a lot of strapless bras. And liquid silicone can be poured onto plastic wrap or something to make long strands to hot glue onto the dress. Hope this helps! Love the concept and final result. 💖
To add to this, clear elastic! It has a rubbery texture and will give a similar result and is easy to find, also good for gathered sleeves you want to keep in place 😁
I feel like the painted on gloves are super fitting for the project, it hits the sweet spot for Old Hollywood-meets-Upside Down. An original take on a classic idea!!
While I haven’t heard “You smell what I’m stepping in?” specifically, one of my really good friends would always use “I’m smelling what you’re stepping in” in place of “I’m picking up what you’re laying down” so I think it works even if it’s uncommon
The way I’ve been taught paper-mache has always been to dip my paper strips in a quite watery glue solution instead of brushing it on. Maybe that would’ve helped with the corners? It does make the paper more pliable…
1:45 How long until she realizes DemogorGOWN is a million times better that DemoGOWNgon... She literally just needs to add a "w" before the n in Demogorgon...
She has a Milo Thatch chalkboard and a mad crafters work-barn. She's unstoppable now! As evidenced by the end product. Looks amazing and disgusting, good job 👍
I just want to say how much I appreciate you, Rachel. My poor little 9 year old daughter has tested positive for covid, and all she wants is to lay in bed with Mumma and have a Rachel Maksy marathon. Your videos make her so happy (and me, I've been a fan for many years now). You're a blessing, we love you! ❤
Not to be dramatic but your channel is my safe space, it's so fun here with a hint of chaos but in a good way. Thank you for always being creative and sharing your passions with us.
@@leomcshizzlepjocastdeserve1631 thanks! I’ll check their channel out now. If you haven’t already, check out Bernadette Banner for more creative vibes as well
I love this! I feel like the black paint instead of gloves actually really added to the whole look of the outfit. Just a little tip: strapless dresses generally involve some kind of boning in the bodice to give them structure and keep them up - especially when it's a full-length gown like this. If you don't have the time and/or inclination to do that, elastic in the back of the bodice (either at the top or even a shirring panel) can help a lot to give it a snug fit.
You have to make something like corset attached to the dress, a part of lining, if you don't want it to slip off. You either have to make straps, or there should be a tight corset with boning. One old seamstress told me that. Actually, you could attach the dress to the collar, so the collar would work like straps.
Yes attached corset like thing. Attached to the top edge. Make to fit correctly they actually can be comfortable. We are going to have to teach her that. LOL
_Didja notice how close Rachel is to 1 million subscribers??_ TOTALLY EARNED, and this make and vid is an example of why! Grateful Rachel Masky being part of our existence!! Such quirky wholesome FUN!! 🤣❤️🤣❤️🤣❤️
As someone who only really has absorbed Stranger Thing knowledge through cultural osmosis/memes, Dead by Daylight, and friends who enjoy the show, I am probably not the target audience but I’m so excited to vibe with the video!
The ✨ whimsically weird✨ projects are always my favorite. But come on, Rachel, Demogorgown was staring you right in the face! It just rolls off the tongue!
You are actually making everything yourself with reasonable budget, so comparing yourself to people who spend crazy amount because they can and get help making the outfits, is not an option! ♡
I remember as a kid, we used to just completely soak the pieces of paper in a tub of the glue so they were FULLY saturated - dr.i.p.p.ing. And our bits of paper were also smaller than the ones you made. Maybe that makes it easier to work with?
@@BlameMyMuses You said this so well! Much better than I could. And oh yes, that very satisfying feel in my hands when I'd squeegee that paper 🤤 It tickles something in my brain, even just thinking about it, my mind feels calmer and I could just lay back and drool 😂 Omg I need to do some paper mâché, stat!! 😂
I really do love when you “wing it” it makes crafts feel less stressful and just something you can just go for! Also the dress looks fantastic, I’m rather jealous 👀
Congratulations on hitting 1M subscribers! You are so deserving of it. You are so super talented and very funny! Love it when I see your notification of new content no matter what it is. The artistry in everything you attempt, the makeup skills are incredible and the video editing..whoa! It’s fun to see your process and I’m here for it all. Don’t ever doubt yourself, you have IT!
GWORL. Demo-gor-gown was right there. 😂 It's absolutely fuckin' amazing, though!!! Also, my best friend's mom makes a Christmas pinata every year out of paper mache. And it's never Christmas themed, really. One year it was a giant bug. 😂 This year it was a diamond block from minecraft. I absolutely love his family, and his mom especially.
Apropos of nothing, but my Mom once helped me make an enormous taco piñata for a Spanish class project. By the time we were done w/it, it was somewhere between 3-4 ft. long. It looked amazing once it was painted & decorated, but it was so big & heavy that I needed my Dad's help to get it into school🌮🌮🌮
As others have beat me to it in my sleep (UK over here!) I’m supporting Demi-gor-gown as the perfect name!! Love this, the collar is actually very couture- could see it in luxe fabrics coming down a runway!
Chaotic though it may be, I love it when you think stuff out on camera. And change your mind. Three times. It's like in math class, "show your work." At the reveal, all I can think of is "I hope the ClosetHistorian sees this!"
If the demogorgown (does this work ? Tell me it works) doesn’t end up in some kind of « weird fancy dresses » museum in your barn, along with other creations like the « But make it vintage » dresses, I will be truly disappointed. Putting them on display is A NEED ! 👌🏻😂
I kind of just want to make a slinky strapless dress with a ribcage affect. The cowl was awesome, but the dress was really amazing, especially given how quickly you finished it.
Halloween absolutely begins in July. Sometimes June. For the paper mache, I've always dipped my strips straight in the gluey stuff and slapped em on. I just use my fingers to remove the excess glue and smooth it out. Messy but effective... mayhaps not when filming though...
Oh absolutely! Summer means it’s time to start looking at what costume I want this year! But I don’t let myself actually start working on it until at least August lol
Oh! And if you work the paper (terminology?) by crumpling it up a bunch and smoothing it back out before dipping it in glue it helps soften it up so it's a bit easier to work the paper around the bends and such. Kind of like at the end of the school year when you take the brown paper bag off your textbooks, you know? Hopefully at least a little bit of that made sense and that you even see this! 💜
Rachel: Let's get down to business. Me: To defeat the HUNS! Rachel: Starts humming I'll Make A Man Out of You Me: I knew there was a reason I liked this lady.
*Thank you so much!!* I hadn't caught that one, and now cuz of your comment, I'm going down a RU-vid rabbit hole of awesome songs from Mulan (and their covers in other genres! There are _rock_ covers! What! 🤯). So I have to thank you @Kirsten Paff for posting this comment! It's carrying over the happiness and warm feelings from Rachel's video here quite well! 🥰 Thank you, and I hope you have a wonderful day!! ♥️ _edited formatting, for easier reading_
@@becauseimafan Glad to hear my silly little comment brought you some joy. Have you listened to the epic version of I'll Make a Man out of You by L'orchestra cinematique yet?
When Revenge of the Sith came out, I convinced my local sw fanclub to create Mustafar in a hotel room for a con. We paper mache'd half a dozen giant wall sized cardboard flats with "volcano texture" and rope lights to be the lava. I think we ended up using paper bags from the grocery store which are basically free and the same weight as kraft paper. We used SO MUCH GLUE. It was messy and a long, long day but it came out pretty cool. And then we never used it again, lol because the weight of the paper mache and the lights made the walls super bendy and saggy after two nights.
😂 Hadn't heard the stepping-in one!! I've read the tamer variant "are you picking up what I'm putting down" in some older books, although noone ever seemed to give it the "F no" answer it honestly seems to be begging for...? 😜
Demo-gor-gown! Love you Rachel ❤️ Maybe you could do a tweaking past makes video? Adding the finishing touches that you don't always have time for or fixing things you think you could do better now!
for the strapless issue, u could use clear straps to hold the dress up because the demogorgon mouth is large enough to cover them!!!! ilysm rachel u give me inspo to create and sew all my crafty creations
So random comment but here we go. I’m gonna be real here. I am a 14 year old girl and through your channel, I now have a newfound love for vintage and all things sewing. I’ve been rewatching some of my favorite videos from you and I will say that even if this channel is chaotic and random, I will be a subscriber till the end of time and am very happy you be a friend:). Love what you do and keep doing it!
A lining, multi layers and boning will solve all the wonkiness of the dresses. One layer and No interlining will never support you or lay correctly.❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Several months ago when you mentioned your struggle to gain subscribers and started asking for us to like and subscribe, you were at 971k, and now you're at 998k and I just feel so proud 🥲 You and your fabulous creations deserve every like and subscribe 💖 I hope you have a wonderful week!
She’s the real MPV! Giving us just enough paper ripping sounds but still being considerate of our time with a time lapse. Get you a creator who does both haha! This is absolutely amazing, truly.
Adding casters to your chalk board will make it easier to move and increase the height of the board. Be sure to use locking casters so your board can be stationary.
You can fix the bodices of your strapless dresses by adding a little boning in the seams. You can actually add it after the fact by hand stitching it to the inside, though it's easiest to stitch it to the wrong side of the lining seams during construction. Another option is to make your seam allowance a bit wider and sew them down to make a pocket for the boning. Even just a few pieces on the bust and sides will go a long way!
Demo-gown-gon is the only acceptable name for this dress. It’s just… 👩🍳 💋 Beautiful dress as always, I skipped to the end to see it because I’m impatient and I love everything about this. I’ll be watching the whole video like a normal person now.
Stunning as always!! Only you can make a terrifying monster into a glam golden-age babe. 👏 What about adding a halter strap to the gown? It would mostly hide under the toothy grin, and not change the back at all. Editing to add: those paint gloves are surprisingly sexy and a brilliant solution.
I have never watched Stranger Things show so I have no idea what any of this is but it came out so cool! The shape of the dress and the ribcage shading are great, and the overall vibe with the hair looked amazing.
When you said glue strands to look like drool, I immediately thought of, since this is more of a "glam" interpretation, gluing on teardrop Swarovski crystals, having them "drip" off as the drool 😂 Anyway, happy Summerween!!!
I am both delighted and disgusted with how this turned out, which is basically how I feel while watching the show, so NAILED IT!! Also, I keep calling it a Demo-Gown (like season 2's demo-dogs?) in my head, lol!
I'm not interested in a Demogorgon dress, but I'm ALWAYS interested in watching Rachel make a Demogorgon dress. 🙌 Your videos are just always delightful.
I mean this in the best way possible; it turned out like an evil Snow White! Like the Revenge of Snow White or something... It's really gorgeous. That strapless dress is dreamy. Some double-sided tape might help, but I'm not a seamstress, so I don't really have any official ideas, but I think it's fantastic. I don't think anyone would call it wonky at all. Beautiful! And yes, NASTY! Another wonderful, fun, and creative result!
At 7:00 your shirt completely blends into the blackboard and I had to double-take when I saw the disembodied hand coming up over the dress form. 100% on theme, very well done.
I absolutely love the ribcage design on the bodice of your Demigor-gown!! It gives such a cool visual effect, and it’s difficult to believe how quickly you finished everything with how cool it all looks! ❤️❤️❤️
This was so fun to watch! Also, if your week ever gets busy, you could totally release projects in pt. 1 and pt. 2. Still would have a blast watching your videos either way 😊
Also, I loved this. It's really cool to see how far you've come with your sewing machine. I remember you saying it's your least favorite part of a project, but like, you can do THAT. Like, if that had a lining, I'd totally wear that. Also you're so pretty. No one actually notices our backne, and if they do, they're not worth our time.
omg this one turned out AMAZING! you look like a cool super villain in the reveal. all the make up and stuff you did really completes the look. STUNNING
10:07 I actually *am* making a Pokémon dress for Halloween (Venusaur) and this is givine me good ideas in case I can't find any giant leaves for cheap somewhere. 19:40 I'm worried for your floors! Get thyself a tarp or something! The demagor-gown outfit looks great!
Love this! The dress looks amazing. The shading is just perfect. With the mache you definitely need smaller pieces, especially for around corners and edges, and just dip them right into the watery mix and slap ‘em on! Then you can smoosh them down with some more liquid with a paintbrush or foam brush. As well as mopping up any extra glue from what you just slapped down. Goes much faster and is much easier.
fun fact when you buy randomized figure packets they have a "run" number printed on them to ensure quality control so if you want all different figures just make sure none of the numbers match.
@@annapruitt5546 If you grab two mystery bags with the same number printed on the back they will be from the same run... so yes they will be the same figure.
For Example I was buying Lego mystery transformers figures for my nephew there were six figures in the set so i made sure to buy him six figures with numbers that did not match. He ended up with five of the six figures there were two starscreams, the starscreams had different numbers because they were from different runs. but it was still better than grabbing randomly.
