I'm working with a programmer. I dream of a world where programming is very easy. Art is a piece of cake for me. Squid unamed rogulike is pretty damn good for how small it is. I'd love to see you spend twice or three times as long on one single game, you have some talent buddy. I'd love to collaborate some time if you were interested in just programming.

when you do the most obvious thing as a dev, you're competing with the skill of other devs, even if you do it first. They will think, "oh I can do that better." sadly they're usually right and your game gets buried under tons of better games with the same concept. doing something unthought of gives your game more edge regardless of your skill because there's not much other competition.

I was just watching a video on the Play Date. And wondering if there was a fishing game from the original developers. I thought “how in the world could they miss that kind of opportunity with this awesome crank?”. So I searched it on RU-vid and here is your game! This is the PERFECT balance between simplicity (graphic wise) and awesome gameplay mechanics. I could totally see myself picking this up and playing this game A LOT (while waiting for doctor appointments, traveling, ect.) I congratulate you on a game well done! If I had this device, I would download your game first thing! Super awesome job! 👍🔥🔥🔥

Beautiful and elegant!!!! So excited to try it! Would love an expanded version where the fisher is higher up on the screen and you can see the different fish below the water, like in Link’s Awakening. It would be so fun to try and aim for the fish lurking the deepest below the surface….

Maybe its a little late to suggest an idea for the game, but you could have implemented a pull back mechanic where you need to pull the rod at some point to catch the fish by using the acceleration of device (as in throwing the rod)!

Really really good coding and graphics. The no.1 problem I have with some video games nowadays is that the game has bad graphics and good gameplay or the game has good graphics but bad gameplay. Your game has good graphics AND good gameplay! I would absolutely rate this game ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Five out of five stars for good effort, good graphics, good gameplay and super cool mechanics. I think that this game goes incredibly well with the playdate consle you used. It has simple controlls that can be used to make cool video games that are inspiring and fun to pay. The crank being used to make a fishing game is very innovative!

you should make a game and make many videos on it instead of just 1 or 2, also try to make a side scroller or something like terraria! also you deserve more people recognizing your videos as you actually make great stuff.

Haha just comes from spending tons of time each day, cutting some corners with the code quality, not really doing as much play testing as I would've liked, and reusing code from my previous games. Thanks!

i think you shouldve done the stardew valley fishing system. its great! a bar goes up and down randomly and your bar has to go over it for a while for it to pull up. I didnt explain it very well but i hope you consider it

You could have a bezier curve for the fishing line. If the console can handle a water simulation it can handle bezier curves

I used this ( gamedev.stackexchange.com/questions/44547/how-do-i-create-2d-water-with-dynamic-waves ), but it's not very performant on the Playdate, so in my new projects I use this, which is much better ( devforum.play.date/t/a-list-of-helpful-libraries-and-code/221/13 )

Yeah for sure. I wish it was less expensive, but it's a niche product by a small company - can't quite get the economies of scale that things like the Switch or Xbox get unfortunately
