Here is the walkthrough on how I made a bustle transformation dress for Dragon Con! This was made specifically for the Page to Stage contest and is my interpretation of Dr. Jekyll and Ms. Hyde. I understand I talk A LOT in this video, so if you have any questions or need further clarification, please ask in the comments. I'm happy to help!
Also, it wasn't until I started editing this video that I realized all of my patterns were from the 1880's instead of the 1870's. Whoops! All patterns are below.

This is so helpful! I'm a plus size cosplayer so trying to figure out how to hide the rest of the dress without making my hips comically wide and obvious that I'm hiding something has been a real struggle. This is an amazing jumping off point for the designing of my own transformation costume and SUPER appreciate you sharing your own creation!

I cannot thank you enough for sharing this! I'm making Katniss's wedding/mockingjay dress, and was desperately struggling to find information on hiding the fabric. I've really been referencing a Hale Centre Theatre video about their Cinderella dress, and that allowed me to look at the transformation and get a brief description of mechanisms, but not much.

This is so amazing!!!! But I have a question…..If I understand correctly, the straps of the jacket go over the back bustle but I don’t see them. How did you hide them? Also, would you need a “pocket” if you instead, lined the inside of the red skirt in black? Thanks in advance. Again, this is incredible!

Aw, thank you so much! So, the straps of the jacket are attached to the waistband of the skirt and are never technically on top of the bustle/overskirt, but they do go over the pocket. So I put the jacket on, then I pull up the overskirt over the pocket and the straps of the jacket, hiding both from view. I hope that all makes sense, It's hard to explain in writing. There's a photo at 22:37 that might help visualize the layering. I had thought of something similar to eliminate the pocket, but decided to go this route thinking it would be a little simpler (I'm not sure it was, lol). You could try lining the red skirt with the color of fabric you want the bustle to be, then experiment with how to turn it into the bustle itself. But I couldn't quite think through how to get the tucks and folds into it in a way that would still fall apart nicely when I wanted it to. If you experiment with this, please let me know how it turns out!

Thank you for the feedback! It actually is in slow motion, the transformation is rather quick. I do agree, I definitely should have moved it to full screen. Or slowed it even more.
