You're doing very well in improving your documatary skills. Adding all of the foley noises was a really nice touch. When watching a nature doc, you take for granted how much foley adds to the storytelling and it made a difference here.

The shrimp-in-a-garbage-can video inspired me to start a neo colony in a 10 gallon water cooler. Best idea ever! Some old substrate, moss, and driftwood, on the bottom. A cheap grow light, red root floaters, a heater and sponge filter…. Every couple weeks I catch a bunch with the bottle method. I keep the best, good ones go into my display tanks, and I sell the less impressive adults with the RRFs and moss. I wouldn’t really describe it as a money maker, but I have made a lot of friends.

The water cannot flow through the sand quickly and therefore the lava rock cannot have a filtering effect. Aquariums require a break-in period of 2-6 weeks before animals should be added. This is the only way to guarantee a stable environment. You could stabilize the water directly because you took the equipment from existing tanks. However, this is the exception and not obvious for beginners. Also, how much work and experience you put into the care and water values on a daily basis is not visible here and should be communicated to people so that they know how to replicate this. And especially if you choose light sources (like here) with a high UVC content, this can quickly have a negative effect. All in all a good video. I would really appreciate it if you would clarify a bit more. Wish you all the best. Kind regards

@NeverSeb

I did the same thing recently. I bought some shrimp for a different tank and decided to keep the water they came in, in a 2 gallon jar for whatever reason. Turns out there were 10 baby shrimp I had not seen in that water and I decided to turn the jar into their home. In two months time I now have tons of baby shrimp and a jar full of guppy grass.

i love this concept! i have a bowl on my table, my shrip already gave birth 2 times. i had some baby fish in my bigger aquarium but most of the babys were eaten after 2 days. so i decided to put them in the bowl too since they are so small. they are doing so well! i have the bowl like a dutch hybride/ walstad methode. i used pottingsoil and pond soil. then topped it of with some nice round grain of poolfiltersand. its great aeration. i didnt used hardscape so i could put more plants. and i used snails who dig themself and the substrate all around. i use a little piece of black alder to control my ph since i have a high kh. and i used some little pieces of cattapa leaves becouse we all know how well they are. a month ago i introduced a little colony of DAPHNIA. use HAVE to get them. when you look some information up about them you can find out that thay eat algea, and the clean water! they are perfect creature to have between the size of a shrimp and the macro creatures like the copepods we saw in your video :) thanks for sharing KFS! :D ps just uploaded a video from it, if your curious about it you could have a look :)

It looks great, what a wonderful set-up. The only suggestion that I have is not to have the water level so high up the jar so that you have a larger surface area to absorb oxygen.
@kernalbert4939
@kernalbert4939 9 месяцев назад
With that bio-load to volume ratio, plus plants actively growing, oxygen saturation is not even a consideration. Yes a larger surface area is greater at air exchange, but air exchange also comes with evaporation, so limiting potential build up of undesirable minerals and (potentially) metals is the greater concern.
