This will be a great user of all the spoils of thread that can't be used because there's non enough on them except to baste. Not to mention those fancy stitches we all have on our machines that we never use.
This is absolutely stunning!!! I am new to your channel. Thank you RU-vid for suggesting this channel! Watching you sew clothing has made me want to give it a try again at 52 years old. I had sewn my own prom dress back in 1988 but after that I basically would just hem my pants. 10 years ago I started quilting and I have beautiful scraps that I now know what I am going to do with them. That is after I clone a pair of pants.😜
You and your puppy are both adoptable, I too, am an artist. Prefer painting abstracts. Your dog coat is exactly like. I made years ago for my small dog. This dog is a lab and your measurement tutor is a blessing for me.
Just the perfect inspiration for me! I’m returning to sewing after 40 years and creating wall art is wonderful, especially because it doesn’t need to fit me! I love abstract art! Thank you so much, Casey.
I do not care for abstract art, but this is a WOW! So inspiring, the wall is the perfect space, the room makes it and it makes the room. Congratulations.
Wow! Your project turned out great! I absolutely love the way you merged the colors in your room in a way that unifies your art with your space. I have no idea why, but looking at it is reminiscent of standing in a clearing in the woods…to me anyway. Congratulations. Not only are you very creative, but I love the way you executed the mounting and framing.
Dollar Tree has some wood glue that sets up quick and it is durable. You will find it in the automotive section. I love your fabric art. I like and create abstract art. I have shared some of my paintings on your Instagram.
Great idea....I could probably make 100+ of these. Those damn scraps we can't part with. Definitely have to give this a try. So maybe fabrics that are just scraps that I think I'll enjoy having around me on the wall for sure. Thanks for the suggestion and the video to inspire so many of us😊😊
Definitely team abstract! This turned out so good, and this was exactly the kind of video that I needed to watch. Been working with fiddly fabrics lately and it was so relaxing to watch you play with scraps and just let the magic happen!
I was reminded of a use I was going to try with fabric scraps... I thought they would work for stuffing in small projects, which would make them washable. Maybe small pincushions, pillows, stuffed animals, dolls, etc. I have seen some people make small fabric cases for needles or sewing kits... some scraps would work for that. Maybe coin purses. Somewhere there are machines that shred fabrics (like thrift store rejects) and them make them into things like rags or something... not sure if that is a home craft option... haha.
I love most abstract art, my husband is an artist and I love his paintings. I am recently getting back into sewing and just yesterday I put all my scraps (not a lot) into seperate bags. I might try to sew them together to make a piece of fabric to cut out another garment. I could also get him to help me design something as he has such an eye for color. Anyway its the journey that is so good for the mind.
Love this. I think it is awesome. I don't care for abstract art when it comes to painting/drawing, but I adore this type of fiber art, and the concept of using what would otherwise go to landfill. Beautiful job!
This is beautiful and so so creative! I feel so overwhelmed by the idea of using all my scraps but the general flow of this, and leaning into the process, seems so approachable. No lining up seams. No perfection. Just following what feels right. Wonderful job and thanks for sharing!
Gorgeous piece. I have fabrics from a Netherlands vacation to make a large wall art piece. It’s in the planning stage. Yours looks so organically created. I see your favorite sheer top scraps. Happy holidays to you.
That looks fantastic! It really brings together your space. I could imagine with how long that must have taken to piece everything together, you must have wondered if it was going to be worth it. It looks fantastic, so it definitely was! I appreciate that you made the frame as well and showed us how to do it. Great job!
Very nice! Your choices of fabric scrap colors go very nicely with the pillows and such in your room, so your art piece doesn't look like a hot mess on a frame. 👍🏻 Would be a fun idea to make a piece for a sewing/craft room also.
Amazing!! I really love how you did the framing. I get so intimidated by any kind of “woodworking” project, but you made it seem very doable! I did a patchwork project a couple months ago and I also found that it was really meditative and satisfying. I definitely want to try this!
Oh, I was **this close** to going out and buying a canvas because I accidentally cut the wood the wrong dimension and was immediately overwhelmed 😅 but it was actually so easy to make, so it worked out!
I am so impressed once again by your creativity and your ability to get things done! It’s awesome! You have inspired me to use up what I have and make something beautiful for my home!
Love it! I've made many mixed media art pieces with paint, fabric, paper (paint chips too!), natural materials, thread, yarn etc. I am intuitive with the process so I never know what it's going to become...it's mainly about the process but I have created some pieces I hang on my walls. Thanks for sharing your process! I definitely got some new ideas.
Thank you for sharing and inspiring us. I am definitely going to try this, even making my own frame too. Your piece looks amazing - the colours and style are great in your room. ❤
Love it! It is so great to have a use for fabric scraps and to let yourself be creative. Love the seams, raw edges and visible stitches. I have a lot of quilting cotton so maybe an abstract quilt is in my future. Great project!
I love this art piece. Its such a great way to just keep adoring your favourite fabric pieces. Really well done and inspiring for others to do something creative ❤❤
Loved your abstract art. I’ve just had a fabric purge as had so much and just had to thin it down. But now I’m thinking could have used for some artwork. Will use some other pieces. Thanks so much.I loved your piece
Great job! I love that you created your own big art from scrape fabric! I’ve been wanting to play around like this but haven’t yet. Your video has inspired me to do it!
Thank you for sharing your process! What a creative outlet. I learned only recently that I don't care to wear many florals but do love to wear abstract design. Your project is so inspiring and I think it came together beautifully. I now have a project that I will go to as the short days of winter and lack of sunshine tend to bring me down. Very exciting.
I have no issue with abstract art and I really like abstract print fabrics! It was great to see you use your scraps in a creative way. I still use your method of sewing scrunchies when I have long offcuts left over! 🧵🪡
What a fantastic idea. I love Abstract Art and have so much material scraps in my stash. I feel I have been waiting for something like this to help me with another project. A big thank you. x
@@PatternScout Just thought that you might be interested in these videos done years ago for the PBS series "Craft In America". Although they feature quilters and "art" quilts, it's still about sewing. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-i6kcRkapFKk.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-j9LvQkcWOho.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OWtboRxFtgs.html
This is gorgeous and inspiring! I’m so happy I found your channel. Question: did you seam the pieces together first before you did the zigzag topstitch? Or did you join the pieces with solely the zigzag? Thanks!
I absolutely love this abstract art piece!! I have bags of scraps that I have been contemplating putting in a donation box, but now I’m rethinking my decision. We are moving to Mississippi in a few months. This would be a nice addition to a new home! Where are you from in Mississippi?
Turned out nicely. Although not my taste, it's cool to see how your face lights up with finished project. I cut scraps into hexagons, strips and squares and make tied quilts out of them. Then they are donated to charity which helps domestic violence victims restart a life and to the homeless.
I usually don't gravitate toward abstract art, but this was very inspiring, I will be trying some version of this. Thank you! Do you have experience with creating a pattern from clothing? I would like to create a top from a top I have in my wardrobe that I love and fits perfect.
I'm glad you enjoyed it! And yes, I have a few videos here where I show how to copy garments to make patterns (check out the pattern drafting playlist on my channel) :)
I absolutely loved this video, Casey! It's been one of my goals this year to create some wall hangings with fabric scraps, and there are so many different approaches to doing this. This was really inspiring and giving me a lot of ideas. I love your art piece. It works perfectly for the space. Thank you for sharing! And it was fun to see your cute little doggo! ❤
I could not make one. I make quilts and I can not make a scrap quilt. I’ve tried, but I’m a matchy, matchy type of person. I can not stand if my points do not meet exactly. I know, dumb, but I’ve tried and my brain will not let me.
I love this. I love all of your videos. I watch all of them, and many of them several times. I have a question about your videos that is off topic, though. Recently, all of the “watched” indicators - that red line along the bottom of the thumbnails - disappeared. It’s a small issue for me, because although I may have missed a few very early videos, I’ve watched pretty much all of them, and I don’t mind seeing them again (and again…) Of all of the channels that I subscribe to, yours is the only channel on which I’ve noticed this has happened. I’m just curious if you know what happened. 🩷
I Love It!! Turned out Great. I do Abstract art all the time. I paint over old Thrifted Paintings all the time. I have used Silk Scarves & Scraps of Fabric in Frames. Colored Formica Chips😅👍 were all the rage back in the day. A collection of 20 years of Fun Graphic Hotel Keys from Traveling for work. I have a collection of Leather upholstery samples I still am trying to see what I want to do with them. My entire house is filled with Abstract Art, and is usually something I made.
Love abstract art, but I'd rather direct my sewing efforts into clothes at the moment. It's so creative though - my mum once cut up all my dad's old ties and make them into a small quilt - it was gorgeous.
This is perfection! I love it! I am planning the same kinda thing for couch cushions. I have a bunch of denim that I picked up at a thrift store by the pound and cut it all up for patch working. I realized I needed cushions so instead of going to a homesense kinda place, I decided to make my own. I really love the zigzag idea and will incorporate that into the work. I just need to go to Micheals and get some stuffing. Thanks for a great video ❤
