I got a second commission to make the Leviathan axe! Once again I didn't get to do the engravings, but I did get to make a much more detailed and accurate reproduction!
Using the correct reference art helps a lot. Turns out the image I used last time and that everybody and their sibling uses to make Leviathan axe props is wrong. I believe it is pre-release art as it doesn't match the final design of the axe seen in game.
ah well. I am so proud of this thing. I'm still proud of the first one I made, I like it for all sorts of reasons, you can check out the four part series on my channel :D

wow just wow, i watched your other video and then stumbled on this one realizing you were the same person. this one is absolutely amazing, i hope i get the chance to see you make one as detailed as possible. like all the engravings, and maybe even find a way to insert gems into it or crystals or something for the colored spots

Guess I should actually get around to watermarking my videos/thumbnails so people know its me! Thanks! Also that reminds me, the guy who commissioned this axe did the gems for it and sent me a pic, I should get that posted somewhere.... I'll reply to your comment again when I do ;)

Ok, I can't figure it out, I assume it's an autocorrect error. My "Disney" video??

Love your style! To make it glow blue try a light coat of white model paint, just dry brush it on and then add some blue florescent paint, Miniature paint from Vallejo is my go to florescent, it will create an intense bright blue that also glows under black light. Probably a bad idea on this beauty but its an idea!

No case-hardening this time? Using Actual good steel this time? Awesome axe

This one was supposed to be functional from the beginning, so no sudden change of plan and wild experimentation :P

No idea what you’re referring to. This is based of off in game screenshots and 3D models. Can you point me at a picture of what you’re taking about?

I’m looking for a fully functional leviathan axe for bush craft. I’ve looked on Etsy and other places but all I’ve found are leviathan axes mainly for decorative purposes. I do not have any of the tools or smithing skills to make one myself. Can anyone help me? I just want this axe but I want to be just as durable and sturdy as a regular axe
@BennettTheSmith
@BennettTheSmith 4 года назад
Durable and sturdy are not problem, but the design of the axe isn’t really good for use as a tool. I could see a modified design, with all the same major elements (bearded, langets, tune sockets, engravings,etc) but with a narrower eye that would catch on what you’re chopping. Also generally making it a lot lighter

What would a price be on something like this?

$3,000 Give or take.

Do you think a 2.5 pound hammer would be good if it were tempered at 425 with two cycles of 3 hours or should I do it shorter or longer or with more or less temperature?
@BennettTheSmith
@BennettTheSmith 4 года назад
Depends on the steel it is made of. Sounds generally reasonable, though I usually do a differential temper with the torch in addition to long cycles in my oven.
@codyorvis6598
@codyorvis6598 4 года назад
@@BennettTheSmith does it matter if it was not differentially hardened
@codyorvis6598

Do you think 5160 aka leaf spring steel flattened and welded to the face of a harbor freight anvil and hardened would provide a harder face for smithing?
@BennettTheSmith
@BennettTheSmith 4 года назад
It would at least be a tougher surface, less prone to damage. Leaf springs are thin enough that you would probably need to re-heat treat after welding. I would only use 5160 and a harbor freight anvil if I already had them. If I was gonna spend money, I’d do something else.

What do charge for this MasterPiece? and how to place the order?
@BennettTheSmith
@BennettTheSmith 3 года назад
Cost depends on the details, which I would be happy to discuss with you via email. For one exactly like this, easily over $4k My website (linked in the video description) has a contact button to email me. Masterpiece is a good word for it, I have never seen another replica come close to the level of detail I put in, perhaps because it makes it quite expensive.

I made everything you see in the video, the customer made the gems and engraved the blade.
