Very impressive young man, I watched all 4 videos and I like the way you troubleshoot. It’s a rare quality in youngsters these days. Thank you for sharing, great, genuine format and production. Texas

I Honestly think that this is one of the best and most original axe making video i've seen. The result is pretty impressive and the fact that you imbraced the imperfections of the wood instead of hiding them seams to me as the best decision of this entire build. This piece is unique, good looking and fonctionnal. Bravo!

Awesome build! I was so exited when I woke up and i saw the conclusion to your series! Quick question: is that *ting* noise the axe makes when you strike a surface supposed to happen? It sounds like the axe head is hitting itself, and that might cause damage to the head in the long run. If it isn’t detrimental in any way, that noise just makes it feel 630725% more awesome
@BennettTheSmith
@BennettTheSmith 5 лет назад
I can't say for certain, but it appeared to be coming from the smaller blade on the back - since it isn't being muted by the wood. But I'm not concerned either way. A clear ringing sound like that says the metal is moving (vibrating) as one piece. Good question! :D

@@BennettTheSmith I'd like to have one specially custom made axe like this forged from a large metiorite and have the metiorite made into Damascus steel and have the handle made of a solid peace of the hardest number 1 wood in the world and have the pamal made from left over peaces of metiorite Damascus steel

It looks fantastic! I just wish that those runes were carved into the axe blade, then it would really look "Kratos" worthy!
@BennettTheSmith

I wanted to do them, but it was way out of budget for the customer. I already went beyond scope by carburizing and hardening the blade :P

Nice build. Did you stain the wedge up top before sending it on its way? Sorry I always notice small things
@BennettTheSmith
@BennettTheSmith 5 лет назад
Nah, I liked the way it looked as is. Plus there is the risk of "glue burn". Anywhere there is glue can stop the stain from taking. So I just left it.

Did I miss something how come you didn't put the Engravings on the axe blade itself?
@BennettTheSmith
@BennettTheSmith 5 лет назад
The commission didn’t include the engraving, just due to what the person could spend. Technically it didn’t include the handle carving or case hardening either. But because they are a friend and I could make good content out of it, I went ahead and did them. But I just couldn’t justify the time for the engraving - as much as it pains me. Of course, they have some skill at engraving. So perhaps if the engravings are added I’ll be able to link a picture of it some day :)

I couldn’t afford the time - it was out of budget for the customer. They figured they could have it engraved at a later date.

You forgot to carve the runes in the axe!
@BennettTheSmith
@BennettTheSmith 4 года назад
Heh, I didn't forget, the customer could not afford to have me do it. One of these days somebody will commission me for the full thing with ALL the engravings and it will be so satisfying. I'm working on an even fancier one now, but still not getting to do the engravings in the steel.

how much do you think you would charge for a fully engraved version?
@BennettTheSmith
@BennettTheSmith 4 года назад
Between $2200 and $3600. Depending on whether I could get a satisfactory etching process to at least transfer and begin defining all the lines or if I had to engrave it all by hand. That price also reflects that a version I would make now would be a much more accurate and higher quality rendition. I’m currently making another, not fully engraved, but a much higher detail version with some engravings and brass fittings for the gems sockets and such. Check my Instagram for a picture of the engraved circles that go on either side of the axe head. So if that price seems high, just wait till I post the rest of the pictures of the one I’m working on now. ;)
