@@THEJAYYSHOW This was GREAT to watch...you kept on peeking...and peeking...and peeking over at her. It's like WE were watching YOU that first time waiting for you to get hit with those first notes. You were waiting for them to go get straight to her heart! Isn't music awesome from any genre anf era. If it touches you then that's all that counts. I REALLY like watching the reactions of the younger generation with love songs like this because honestly you guys don't have music like this. But just of this era but anything PRE 1990 because that's really when auto tune came in and killed everything. Also because lyrically things just aren't written as well. I just want to hear your take on the romantic lyrics and I'm glad your friend liked it. 😎

Just a note, this isn’t the original song. The singing and music are okay but if you really want to be blown away look up the original single recorded by legendary producer Phil Spector. He took the Righteous Brothers and wrote music for them and recorded backing tracks that blend together with their voices and the result is lightning in a bottle.

I remember that song too. Both are great singers, but the coin flip worked out though. Bill Medley is a great singer too, but this song was definitely better or suited for Bobby's voice. It was a song best for a tenor and he was amazing. But on the same token, "I've had the time of my life" song was best for baritone voice which Bill had the deep singing voice or deeper. I just couldn't see the song coming out right with the higher Bobby hatley voice singing it, that song was made or perfectly set for the baritone voice or for Bill. The two had that nice deep and high combo though and great singers individually

The song was written for a 1955 movie called Unchained, about a guy in prison who couldn’t wait to get back to his girl. The guy who wrote the lyrics refused to put any of that stuff into the song so it became a general love song, sung by many before the Righteous Brothers did it .. but nobody else did it like this, altho many other singers covered the song later (including Elvis) and based their versions of it on this version by The Righteous Brothers ... It is a solo song, but the Righteous Brothers were a duo so they flipped a coin to see who was going to do it, and Bobby Hatfield won. The other member of the duo was Bill Medley who arranged the music for the studio version as well as for this performance AND he played piano while Bobby was singing .. so it was still a team effort. Bobby sang another version for the movie “Ghost “ and this revived interest in the 1965 version (this one) which was then re-released. The Righteous Brothers and this song made history by having two different versions of the same song in the Top20 of the charts at the same time, competing against each other!

“The Righteous Brothers” are considered by most to be the Greatest Male Vocal Duet Of All Time. I agree. Between Bill Medley’s Lows and Bobby Hatfield’s Highs they can hit every note on an 88 key piano. No other male singers can do that. Legendary. “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feelin” was the most played song on radio in the 20th Century. "Unchained Melody" - Bobby Hatfield Live 1965. Considered by most as The Greatest Live Male Vocal Performance In History... I agree. Bobby's use of "Runs" is brilliant. He is the master of the technique and started the trend. 7 notes just to say the word "I".... Their name came when they did a show in a smaller venue and a black man told them…. You two Brothers are Righteous. In 1983, in Newport Beach O.C. Calif. Bill and Bobby at the Jolly Roger Restaurant . I was 13 feet away for... "Unchained Melody"- "You've Lost That Lovin’ Feelin‘" - "Soul And Inspiration".... They were perfect, awesome, amazing, incredible......

"Don't ruin it for them." LOL This is the group that preformed the version in the movie Ghost. They were not the first to sing it, but the best. They first sang it in the 60s and it was a hit again in the 1990s with the release of Ghost and a pottery lesson. They are not brothers, the other one has an exceptionally deep voice. They also sing You Lost That Loving Filling with the other man singing the lead. He was quite handsome. That tan is setting off those eyes. It is shocking how effortlessly he goes to full power on projection and then continues a series of runs without taking an additional breath. That is a gift from God. He is one of the reasons they called it "blue eyed soul". It immolates R&B because it reaches the soul. Also check out Elvis' 1970s version. He looks a wreck and can barely put a thought together and then he starts a Liberace like piano intro (I forget he could play classical piano, I am used to him with a guitar). It is not as soulful, but it is deeply moving, once he gets out of the flourishes.

Simply the greatest love song ever. Bobby's range was on full display here and this was LIVE. I grew up during the 60s and the girls would just melt every time they listened to this classic. Many sang this one but Bobby flat out owned it

The movie is Ghost, with the late Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore. Yes, they used the original production of the song 8n the movie.

It makes me think of after having met my love match in high school, going to teen dances together, holding each other and moving as one. I lost him a while back. Met at 16, married at 17, parents at 18 and married for 35 years when he passed. Next May it would have been 50 years married. I miss him so much.

Remember too, ladies, this is live on stage circa 1964. No studio enhancements, no electronics, just Bobby Hatfield and a microphone. (Written in the mid 1950s for a movie).

Technically, not the original. The Righteous Brothers' version is a cover. It was originally in a movie called "Unchained" hence the song title that appears to have nothing to do with the content of the song. It was set in a prison, and was sung by an inmate who was questioning what was waiting for him on the outside. "Time goes by so slowly, and time can do so much, are you still mine?" The lyrics are such a sad mood when put in the context of a prisoner possibly losing the person he holds so dear, and not able to do anything to change it. They did add to the song and make it their own, which changes the feel of the song, but the original is haunting in its own right. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-G11mDi_LXe8.html if you want to check it out.

Correct. The ‘prisoner’ singing in the movie version is Todd Duncan. Born in my home state of Kentucky, about 40 miles from where I live.

My favorite version is The Righteous Brothers! I recently heard Elvis's version and it has such a different feeling - lots of pain in his performance/voice that breaks my heart! The Righteous Brothers' version however feels so romantic and hopeful. It's crazy how different they are

@@THEJAYYSHOW And The Righteous Brothers aren't real brothers. Their names are Bobby Hatfield and Bill Medley. Bill also did the theme song from "Dirty Dancing" with Jennifer Warnes called "(I've Had) The Time Of My Life)in the 1987. The version in Ghost was the studio version from The Righteous Brothers (they were not related). This tv version was done live in '65. Bobby Hatfield absolutely owned it. When Ghost came out, a new studio version was rereleased and charted big time. IMO the Live version done on the Andy Williams Show was the definitive version of this great song.

THANK YOU for saying that!!!! I agree, you cannot FEEL today's music. I grew up with an entirely different music where was experienced emotionally and physically. I am so glad to see younger people like you listen to a song like this and be just as moved as I was, back in the day. Listen to much more of that older stuff. There is so much to experience.

This song is a very close, and emotional song for me. I am a man's man, but...I cry every time I hear it. My mom passed away 3 years ago. She had me record this song (her all time favorite) over and over again on a cassette so she could hear it over and over again. Everytime I hear it, I think of her. I miss, and love you so very much mom. Live to Survive!
