What a fun and cheerful looking coat! I hope you get more wear out of it after all that work. This reminds me that I've still got a patchwork dressing gown that I haven't worked on in a few months... I started it a couple of years ago and it's coming along, but there are over 6 thousand little triangles so it's taking a while.
Beautifully done and such perseverance. I loved your footage of you tying the coat and repeating 8 months. It reminded me of the first (and only) time (so far) I hand-quilted a full-size blanket. I picked a extra long 32 hour audiobook to accompany me as I stitched. Spoilers: it was not extra long enough. Also thanks for the twirl at the end of the video I was just wishing for it and then you did. delightful!
Now I know what to do with my bag of scraps that are too small to make anything substantial out of, but are too big/useful to cut up for stuffing. A chaos circle skirt is now on the future projects list. 😄
This coat is absolutely devine, I love the storyline too! It transported me to a parallel universe and made me dream! That's a sign of a costume well done!
This is great. I love the way you made full use of your base fabric - very clever cutting. Juul Thijssen made a couple of videos about her patchwork liberation skirt last year. This coat has a similar vibe.
I made myself some sewing machine covers just like this! And I've been making myself a lap quilt... it's only half done and I started it in 2018 (... i think, time is a social construct)
i like to imagine something similar to this in neutral tones for a sneaking type character, to break up their silhouette to some degree. like extra funky camo pattern.
Based on the lore, I'm imagining (a) this coat being fully reversible, and (b) your character being a double, or even triple, agent - a, heheh, *turncoat*.
Would now be a bad time to suggest that if you ever decide to tie a quilt again you don’t cut the thread? Instead do all stitching in your area then cut and tie then move to the next area. It will still take time but maybe not as much. Your coat is lovely and exactly perfect for your character!
