I've always loved baking cakes and thought it would be fun to make my own wedding cake. So this year for my anniversary, I thought I would attempt to recreate my $1,000 wedding cake to see how much money we could've saved. Can a very average home baker DIY their own wedding cake? Let's find out!

I sell cakes from my house and let me say, you did an awesome job❤️ The reason we charge so much is because of how much time it takes. Take that away and you have a much cheaper cake, but it’s so nice just to have someone do it for you isn’t it

WOW! Tricia! You are amazing! Thank you so much! That is one thing I learned through this process, that yes, it takes sooo much time and I actually understood why wedding cakes are so expensive! I will say after this, I was very glad I had someone else do my actual wedding cake for me- way less stressful! Props to you for selling cakes from your house! That takes a lot of talent, time bc energy! ☺️

Beautiful 🤩 quite frankly your cake looked better in my opinion. I’ve baked two tier cakes before but they were small in comparison to this size wedding cake. I’m going to attempt to make one for our 10 year vow renewal. Hopefully I can pull it off.

honestly in the comparison photos, I liked the cake that you made more. You're definitely skilled! I'm hoping to make my own cake as well, but I agree, I would feel a high amount of pressure and stress, and probably get married with gray hair lol

I made my own wedding cake. Tbf, I ran a cake business for years, and I still take requests for new ones, I i just scaled way way way back when I had kids. So. About two weeks before the wedding, we actually started trying for baby number 1... Figuring out would probably take more than one try (yeah we were impatient🤷🏼‍♀️😄). It didn't. Take more than 1 try, I mean. Let's just say the cake was delicious, it was beautiful, but it was definitely not the original plan for the design. Lil baby came with big nausea... Literally took me out. Night before the wedding I was taking turns laying on the cold floor to try and settle my stomach and finishing the cake... Which was making me nauseous 😅 Don't do it guys. I saved a TON of money and I can still say confidently that it wasn't worth it 🤣

If you want to „cut“ the rough edges the cake needs to be almost freezing and your tool needs to be „sharp“ and always make sure to put away the excess every few cuts. Alternatively as you did it later to smush it inwards very carefully- which is the method I prefer.

Oh and don’t put flowers directly into the cake, especially if you buy them from a store and not a florist where u don’t know if the flowers have pesticides or not, you would always want to put flowers and greenery with a wire together and then put a straw over it so flowers and greenery doesn’t directly touch the cake :)

Since I was 8 I always didn’t like practice makes perfect bc when it didn’t turn out how I wanted it I always felt discouraged bc I felt like I practiced all the time so since then I have always said practice makes progress

I'm an average at best baker too. This video and the one where you make your sisters is really inspiring to me! Cake decorating and baking was my 2020 new hobby (when people picked up new hobbies during pandemic lockdown), and I would just love to make my own wedding cake some day. you're absolutely right - a frozen/chilled cake is the best to work with.

girl your cakes BEAUTIFUL ik you might not want to but you should start a bakery! The cake looks nice and so do your others (my personal fave is the unicorn one 🦄), and i dont think anybody has ever used syrup to stick the cakes! Just found you via shorts, and +1 in my subscription box
