If I was Chris I would just have spoke to Ken and said, Hey I'm sorry, I'm ashamed of my Japanese so I lied to you and laughed about it. I'm soo bad I am sorry. I respect you soo much so I didn't want you to look down on me. I think he would have respected that

honestly... you can't help it though, even someone like Chris that lives in Japan can only slowly learn the multitude of both unspoken rules and the better known ones, and while at it also learning years worth of Japanese hiragana and the more difficult Katakana... there are bound to be mistakes... There are too many little intricacies to the Japanese culture that makes it hard for foreigners to get used to, be it for living there or simply staying for a while.

This is why high-end sushi restaurants prohibit entry to foreigners without prior knowledge. His biggest mistake was answering "No" to the question, "Is there any food you don't like ?" The chef may have thought of him as ``a foreigner who came for an adventure.'' Serving shellfish three times in a row is not a good idea. He's observing the guests, and it's weird if he doesn't realize that's not a good choice. The chef may have purposely done something to make him dislike. But it's weird to eat and then throw up. Oysters are commonly eaten, but the shellfish look no good. But no one will spit it out. I think both he and the chef have issues. What I feel when I look at him is that he has a somewhat critical and unfriendly atmosphere.
