Scam Call Center Panics
Lately scammers have been trying out a new social security scam.
They claim someone is using your identity to purchase illegal things.
The call center will spoof phone numbers from your local bank or even police numbers to try to convince you they are real. If you follow their script, they'll instruct you to take cash out and buy bitcoin. At that point, they want you to send it to their "secure government wallet".
My hope his that after watching this video, and the other videos on my channel, you'll be better equipped to avoid scams!

This happened to my dad. He didn’t fall for it but held them on the line for almost an hour and just messed with them. I feel bad for anyone that does fall for these scams. It’s so disgusting.

@@josh9673 That's why they get super chatty and talk over the victims. The people they target are already usually super vulnerable, so they use that tactic to overwhelm them even more. Makes it hard for them to think and process that they're being turned into victims.

@@josh9673 Think of it another way: they target people who aren't all there - usually foggy-brain from medication, illness, and age - who have poor eyesight that is strained looking at a screen, and who just in general are befuddled and confused by technology and don't like reading screens (note how refund scammers and virus scammers will use the command prompt and just expect the victim to ignore the computer saying things like 'welcome is not a valid command'). Then they amp up these people by inciting panic and urgency - 'you've been robbed, you're about to have your account frozen, you robbed me' - and when they try to read what looks like a terms of service screen the scammer starts stalking over them and even shouting to get them to not listen, get frazzled, and not read. This is why they absolutely do not want you to hang up when you go into the store. If you hang up you might actually read the 'beware of scams' warnings, because the scammer isn't babbling in your ear.

I get the IRS scam calls about every 2 weeks. I am in Canada with a Canadian phone number and don’t have a Social Security Number. I have a Canadian SIN Number. They also want Target cards and there are no Targets in Canada.

Them barely speaking English isn’t that big of a red flag. There’s company’s that outsource their phone operations all the time. We’re really desensitized to speaking to people with accents about personal information.

I have been majorly scammed by Ford stealerships. My car was under warranty and it barely moved. They lied and tried to act like they couldn't find the problem. I didn't no anything about cars and I found out its phaser issue which is really expensive to fix. Now my car is out of warranty. They knew all along and pushed it out because my warranty would expire soon. They also tried to trick me into signing papers that I will pay out of my own pocket for any needed repairs. It turns out this is a common practice by Ford stealerships.

I actually prefer simple plots like these. String them along as far as you can, then let an employee stop the scam. Not only does it frustrate the scammer, they'll start to act more sneaky and cautious when the victim enters the store, which might clue the victim in that the phone call they're on is not legit.
