Well, it reminds me of when I put the engine and transmission back in my car last spring only to find out that I had installed the clutch disc reversed. Things like that will happen even with the best of intentions. You fixed it and you learned something from it! Great job. You did the right thing.
Frustrating indeed! But, you did the right thing; satisfying the moral obligation, & got'er done. I'm not much if a body man but I think I followed your line of thought in your explanation. If I did, then I think the blame does not totally rest on you. On the upside, your 20-20 hindsight is still intact -- that's a good thing. Take care & keep looking up.

My truck, the kick panel caused a similar issue of door not closing. Had to jack dash away from floor and then do kick panel. (I caught it by test fitting door before finishing any welding 😜) Mayhaps your kick panel has fallen down a bit?
Question - I'm restoring a 1969 Chevrolet Impala SS, I have paperwork going back to the original buyer, the car was sold out of Bowles Chevrolet Co., Atwood, Kansas...just curious if you had heard of this dealership?
Tell ya what. I have a 55 cameo and 56 f100. The ford is a better design and fittment.. the door windows and internal access, hinges.. the gaps wedge and pinch pretty bad on the chevy. The fender mounts to the cab and dirt traps are better on the ford. And it seems the rear cab corners rott on all the chevys. The stepside fenders dont match the cab on the chevy. My 2 favorite trucks thou.
