I May Lose my Home to FLOODS | House Build #12

The Utah snowpack is the highest in recorded history...and now we are receiving the runoff of that snowpack. Most of the stream can handle the runoff, but not the river behind my house. If it gets much worse, my homes will be in the pathway of that mess.

You are such a good neighbor to have. So kind and willing to help so much!! We have a Kubota and every winter I do both my neighbors and my next-door neighbors' driveways and our entire house-fronts on the street, after the plows pile up the snow, ugh. I figure I have the machine that'll do it in minutes rather than them taking hours, it is a no brainer!! So, good on you for doing that with your neighbors. Especially considering the potential damage coming! I will just say I pray it passes by without much damage for you all! God Bless You!

For those getting water in basement. You might want to consider filling basement with city water (tap) to keep the flood water out and protect basement walls from collapsing. You might think I am nuts. I remember when I lived along the Mississippi river in 65 when there was a record breaking flood at the time. We had a friend in part of town that got flooded and he didn't want have to clean up the basement of his house after floods water had gone down therefore he filled his basement with city water as flood waters rose and it worked. Now as for basement walls collapsing after flood waters go down. Where I currently live (its not along Mississippi River) we had a record flood here in 2008 and a number of people after the flood started to pump water out of their basements too quickly and had basement walls collapse due to ground water pressure.

Yep, Dutchy here (Netherlands) You ar absolutly right. We, in the city of Den Haag, we put a big part of a underground metro line / car parking complete under water during the building of it. In a part that was almost ready. The concrete wals where leaking and during the time the "master genius" think of a solution there was no other option than make the most expensife swimmingpool of it. Best result ever. No extra harm was done.

@straybullitt

The Army is probably who suggested blowing it up! Probably, the general consensus is that if the water reaches expected flows, the bridge will be damaged regardless. If it is gone, there will be one less restriction in the waterway. It would be a shame to blow up the old bridge. 😔

@brudasdm7419 Год назад
You might want to look into diverting some of that water upstream, into a less populated area if possible. If a few crews up river, could drop a large siphon hose into the river at multiple locations. And saturate the land in different locations. Have a bulldozer on one end and a large excavator on the uphill side. Just pull out of the peak flow to control the Crest just enough to help. There are rivers in California that pull off water at times like these with big established, electric pumping stations, to recharge wetlands. It may be considerably more difficult for you, but 20 or so siphons upstream might make a big difference. 🤘😎

It is so great to see such level of awareness and proactivity (especially on comunity/city level). I live in small state in Europe. The river flowing through our capital Prague has set of big dams built upstream. Their function is power generation and flood prevention. In middle of summer 2002 stained heavy rains broud huge floods. But all dams were on high water level and there was not enough time to discharge enough to caught flood without causing another flood downstream. So flood swept through and many disctricts of Prague were swept away. Even subway was flooded (althou it was designed in comunist era as nuclera shelter and supposed to be possible to make air tight). I wish you better luck, you are doing what should have be done in Prague in 2002. Yes, we learned, now there are emergency plans, new anti-flood walls both permanent and quick assemble mobile ones, etc. But costs in reaction is always bigger then in proaction. Good work.

They installed huge drainage pipes, concrete and metal barriers, giant rocks on top of that and a few years later it still got wiped out by the river , utter destruction. I have before and after pics. The power of the river so high is amazing. Wishing you the best of luck. At least you've got warning of what's to come.
