Julia Hartley-Brewer welcomes the former Metropolitan Police Detective Chief Mike Neville onto talk through the Labour's prospective crackdown on crime and their 'race action plan'.
Mike doesn't have much hope that Labour's plans will lead to fewer crimes, and argues that many people are ignoring the 'elephant in the room'. Police officers, according to Mike, don't feel confident that they'll be supported in stamping out knife crime, as they could be accused of racism simply for doing their jobs.

More PR, nice words but we've heard it all before. Where are these 'thugs' going to be put if they are convicted. What about the parents of these people that carry knives?. My parents would have thrashed me if I was caught doing something that brought the Police to the house. A criminal is a criminal regardless of ethinicity.

The brits when i was growing up basically policed themselves in a social way that often involved some punches being thrown n serious crime was rare, i think they hoped other communities would become the same if sort of allowed to sort each other out but it hasnt worked out like that, when i was growing up fighting was never a police matter unless it was large scale n involved serious injuries, since they beefed up the definition of assault, then came all the knife crime, imo.

These 'clampdowns' are nonsense; possession of a 'bladed article' (except for a folding penknife with small blade) in a public place without reasonable excuse is and has been for years a criminal offence; blaming these knives (and I'm unsure how- and whether- the police actually know a 'zombie' knife was used) is simply a distraction and avoids stating the real reason for the stabbing epidemic; rather like 'smashing the gangs' avoids addressing the tens of thousands of illegal migrants who shove money into the hands of the organisers

These types of weapons are normally used in certain professions quite legally. So how do you police and manage this situation. I was a professional diver, and I had a selection of knives that I used underwater just doing my job. So now am a criminal and a terrorist, because of this new law.
