Half a year ago I was struggling with going off of my mental health medications and felt like filming a video to document my time to 'show' that depression and other disorders are real, treatable, & worth talking about. If you're struggling, there is help & you ARE worth it ♥

Depression is real. The person who appears happiest in the room could be the one who’s the unhappiest. You never know what someone is going through. Be kind.

Honey Bubs I get it. I totally get it! That describes me as well. Always putting on a happy face and pretending to be cheerful, so as not to upset the others who can't deal with the fact that life is really difficult for some people like us.

Depression lies! It makes you think you're the worst and your life will never get better and nothing you can do will help. That is a LIE. Go to a therapist, even if it seems scary or helpless, and get a prescription and take it. If your prescription is late or not working, FIGHT FOR IT! Even if it feels like you can't in the moment, you can. You're stronger than you think.

BlondzRule All I agree with you, it's not talked about enough. It is difficult to talk about, because it makes so many people without depression uncomfortable. They often don't want to hear about it. Much less try to understand. Cassie is a wonderful amazing woman. And it took a lot of Courage for her to post this.

This is not dramatic. This can be a seriously dangerous situation. People who go off prescribed medications cold turkey (whether intentional or accidental) are subject to severe mood shifts. If this ever happens again, please go to an urgent care clinic, or emergency room with your prescription. You are wonderful and you deserve to take care of yourself.

I am going to say this as blunt as I can. Take your medication seriously. My husband of 23 yrs was bipolar, but mild, easily treated with meds for many years. The bipolar became a non-issue for us, completely controlled. He stopped his meds, after 15 yrs, thinking no big deal, having me make an appt with his dr when they could fit him in. Stopping the meds abruptly threw his brain into an unexpected tailspin. Never having been suicidal before, I woke one morning and found he hung himself. The world stopped for me that morning. Left a widow with 5 children ages 6 to 23 to now raise alone, I will never be ok again. He was my world. I see that image every damn day. I have children crying in grief every day. We lost everything we built. My mother was diagnosed with terminal cancer right after he died, so while in shock barely functioning as a sudden widow, I also watched her die. He should have been holding me up through that like he always did. One bad decision, not taking it as a rush, not thinking he would have that reaction, shattered all our lives and there is no fixing it.

People don't shame diabetics for needing insulin. People don't shame people with heart disease or liver failure for needing meds. If your brain doesn't make enough of a chemical, it should NOT be shameful to get that treated. I have dysthymia & CAD as well, and it SUCKS. People shouldn't have to feel bad for needing the meds they require to be well. If you wouldn't give someone with cancer or high blood pressure crap for needing medication, you shouldn't give people the side eye or "just suck it up/try harder/choose to be happy" crap to folks with depression, anxiety, & other emotional disorders. It's not a choice. I didn't choose to struggle with depression MY ENTIRE LIFE. I didn't choose to have a screaming, kicking, thrashing, bawling anxiety attack at SIX. And anyone who thinks it's for attention truly needs the help. Do what you need to be WELL, lovely. There's no shame in taking the meds you need to be okay. And I'm SO glad you're feeling better now, Cassie! ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

Totally agree. I just had a discussion with my 8 year old about his medication. He has ADHD and takes medication because school was getting difficult for him and he really cannot focus or concentrate without it. He’s felt fine taking it but doesn’t want to take it during the summer. Which is fine but I also told him there wasn’t anything wrong with taking medicine to help you. That people take medication for colds, heart conditions, etc and that this is no different. I’m hoping to make him mentally prepared for if people give him a hard time about it later on in higher grades. His teacher was wonderful with everything as well and it just showed how much it helps when you have a strong support system.
@icansurviveuniversity.imra1405
Yl'luria YES! to this comment. I would like to add: it is important to talk to your doctor what you can do else. my mother had high blood pressure and she has to work yout every day and loose 10 kg of her weight. I have heart problems, (had) anorexia nervosa and ptsd and I am requiert to work out 4 days a week. plus I have to have a perfect sleep routine. long story short: nothing wrong with taking meds if the doctor thinks that's good for you, but never stop working on building yourselfe up. like cassie does. she might have an eating disorder, but she tries to eat healthy wich is damn amazing. she gets shit done in her life even thou she has depression and anxiety. there are more things out there than meds that might help you!
@MsBarbara.651
@MsBarbara.651 6 лет назад
Yl'luria yes!! You sound exactly like me. I've been suffering with dysthymia and chronic clinical depression for over 30 years as well. I try to preach that same exact sentiment whenever I get the chance. It's a disease, much like other diseases. Only it's the one disease that other people can't understand or handle. They tell you to just be happy. Try harder. They have no idea how hard that is. And those words do not help. Compassion is helpful. Understanding is helpful. Encouragement is helpful. Support is helpful. Thank you for your well expressed message. ❤
@Ylluria
@Ylluria 6 лет назад
Indeed. But the point is destigmatizing the meds. I definitely agree that they shouldn't be regarded as the end-all-be-all or the single, blanket solution for everything. But a lot of people shame others (or themselves) OUT of getting/taking the meds they need, and that's not okay. Some people only need meds to help them stabilize so they can more healthfully address the problems they have and begin finding healthier solutions like behavior mods once they're in a more okay place. (That was me at one point in my life.) Some people can use behavior mod and other processes w/o meds and that's okay too. But some people will never, ever be able to be off those meds, or have problems that only meds will ever touch, and they shouldn't be stigmatized or looked down on or seen as being lazy or weak for needing those meds, ykwim? We should all just utilize the steps we each need to make to be our best, and it shouldn't be shameful if what one person needs is different than another. (For example, for some anorexics or bulimics, diets of ANY kind can be triggering and send them right back into a ED hole. Ykwim?) I'm just saying, let's not try to shift the topic, here. Behavior mods of all kinds kick butt, but sometimes meds are just necessary, and that's okay too. ♥

Long-time quiet (lurking) viewer here... You asked how this video could help anyone with mental illness - I have mental illness and seeing this video helps me. I have bipolar, anxiety and body focused repetitive behaviors (also, like you, probably disordered eating) and I relate to so much of what you said and felt here. I relate to what happens when you can't (or don't) get/take your meds. I relate to all the questioning you did, all the self-devaluation you were doing. I understand completely, and while it hurts to see you suffer, I'm strengthened knowing that you understand me too. I'm so glad you're doing better and your medication stuff has stabilized. Thank you for being honest (always) and sharing your life with us. Also, thank you for the tip to get meds from the ER - I didn't know you could do that! Take care of yourself

Prescriptions must be different there. Here in Australia it's up to the individual to go back to their doctor when their repeat prescriptions run out. Yeah we can get messages from pharmacies reminding us to go pick things up, but once the number of repeats have been used it's back to the doc for more prescriptions. I always opt out of the texts from my pharmacy because they 're way too quick off the mark. I know when I need to get a refill and I sure don't need them telling me 3 times - makes me feel like an idiot.

Im 29 now and i still am sad and im on anxiety meds.. nothing wrong with taking medication to feel better but im always told that talking with a professional always helps even more. That moment that you decided to share something so personal while baring your soul was honestly the most humbling experience for me. Depression to me is like this basic pallet that has no tone to it and requires the individual to accommodate it. Our brains are literally the most mysterious beings on the planet. We all struggle with some form of depression, bc it is part of our emotional make-up as a living being. For you to come in front of the very people who look up to you and admire you for your talents is by far the best comfort and reality you could offer us. I feel as though we all tend to mask our images to control the perception others have of us , as reality is far from that perspective as we cannot control how others perceive us, we can only influence how we are perceived. As a youth i would spend hours upon hours in my own dramatic little reality in my bedroom listening to "Summertime" by Janis joplin and "Rainy Night in Georgia" (conway twitty) and sob and sob until my nose felt as if it was sucker-punched by a fan blade. It was as if my brain was putting me into a different realm to protect my sensitive nature. I honestly am grateful that you have opened up to us all. The influx of suicides has been incredibly painful while so many left hanging while the true victim soar within the universe. Please continue to be yourself, bc you are the only one who can offer that to you

My heart fell to the floor when I saw this notification and started watching this video. I thought this was going to be a suicide video. And that terrified me... You can hear how beautiful and wonderful you are, but that doesn't mean anything to you if you don't believe it yourself (and feel it). I know this I'd Dec 2017 when this was filmed, but please seek medical help. You could very well have/had SSR from suddenly stopping your medications. I have seen that and physcosis (sp) in the ER several time and it is real and it is dangerous!!! Secondly get ready for those horrible trolls who have nothing better to do than type something demeaning and ugly in the comment section... they also need help! Thank you for posting this raw and dark video. And unless you you have a contract with that Dr. I would suggest an Urgent care or Acute Care for quick prescriptions regarding your anti depression and anti anxiety meds. But I do know this is unsolicited advice lol. Thank you oh so much for being raw and real.

Trace Kelly It is beautiful in the fact that we can relate as a community and not feel so alone in our struggles. When it comes to OCD, however, the "psychosis" part can send you into a flurry of intrusive thoughts and unwanted feelings. Now, I'm not saying you dont have OCD or dont understand, I'm simply saying as someone who suffers from OCD, it can be "triggering". I know that word is very annoying in this day and age lol. I'm glad it helped you 💜 Sending good vibes * whoosh *

As someone who struggles with bipolar disorder, my meds are super important. My brain just needs some help producing the right amounts of neurotransmitters, and that's ok. It's something I'm going to deal with for the rest of my life, and there's nothing weak about having a more functional brain. For anyone out there who looks down on themselves, I was like that too. You are amazing, and you aren't weak for wanting to feel better. Lots of love 💗
@mbd6054
@mbd6054 6 лет назад
Cassie, there is no shame in needing medication; for physical or mental illness. You are NOT weak. If you had a physical disease, no one would have a problem with your meds.. Please remember that people who don't understand are just shallow and ignorant. Remember the people who love you, and the great, brave, smart person you are. Don't allow this set-back to push you backwards. This is a bump on a long road. You will get back on your path. Nothing has happened that can't be dealt with - it's okay to need your meds. It is a sign of strength, not weakness, to know that. Breathe, Cassie, some days it's okay to just do that, and get through.

Jen Luvs Reviews where she was going with this video? She obviously published it to educate people on depression and mental health issues. People can't skip past it to learn about how bad it is, and there are people far worse who can't get help at all. It is something we all need to be more educated on and push to make better, more accessible, affordable, etc. I think the point is to witnesshow bad and real the struggle is. I say this with respect.

A R thank you for your reply. I too was disappointed to read the "your pain and struggle was too hard on ME, so I skipped past that part" comment. Smdh. That's one of the biggest problems about having the disease of depression. People can't handle it. People don't talk like that to cancer patients! But when you suffer from depression, you can't talk about it. You can't mention you have it. You can't share that you're suffering. It fkn sucks! When people have cancer or other diseases, people are kind and they care about you. When you have depression or show you have depression, people shut down. Walk away. Abandon you. It's the worst thing a person can have in my opinion. And I would know that because I've suffered with it for almost 30 years. I wish I could just skip past the hard part. But that's not how it goes 😭

This is a PSA to anyone who thinks going off antidepressants cold turkey is a good idea. Same thing happened to me before, accidentally messing up on the refills and going without for a few days, and I acted the same way. It's like throwing your brain off a cliff. Don't be ashamed, if a diabetic stopped taking their medication they would get sick too and this is no different. Thank god I am not on Lexapro or any other psych meds anymore. They caused me to gain so much weight which in turned fueled more depression which became a vicious cycle. I weaned off by 5 or 10 mg each month, which led me to drop 50 lbs in 4 months. I don't recommend that for everyone but for me personally my depression was related to alcohol abuse, once I quit drinking I found I did not have the need for the medication anymore.

I think this is one of the most accurate and honest videos I've seen talking about mental health and medication. I admire you so much for filming that. People sometimes don't get that "pretending" to be fine is exhausting, that we need to take our made because if we don't all our energy is going to be wasted just fighting our illness. I'm happy you are feeling better now, and it is very noticeable in your videos too! Thank you ♡

To anyone who has gone through this, the pharmacy can give you a few days supply!!!! This has happened to me that's how I know. Also, if it's that bad you can go to er like she said, but pharmacy is a lot easier and quicker.

Zee a in the us you risk an involuntary hold if you seek help from an Er. I would suggest getting an appt with any doctor to just hold you over until you can see your mental health provider

The pharmacy will give you a 5 days supply to help you! Absolutely no reason to go without your medication. It must be time to renew your prescription so they are waiting to hear from the doctor. The pharmacist can call on your behalf or you can call your doctor directly to get the refill. When you feel better create an "emergency plan" just this case this happens again and you are out of medication. It is dangerous to just stop taking some medications cold turkey and you can feel even more depressed than before. Be well and don't blame yourself :)

Idk where you live but that’s not how it works where Im at. In fact they wouldn’t do anything nearly that nice or helpful. They basically say sorry you’re screwed we don’t care you can go away now. With as much as we pay for insurance I think the least they could do is that when you run out of something you need to literally live your life. I’m not even talking about for me I’m talking about my husband and other family and friends I’ve seen go through bs with the pharmacist for super important medications. I can eye roll for days about this I’m not even kidding 🙄

Thank you for uploading this, Cassie. More of these raw, unedited videos need to be shown to see the true face of depression, anxiety, and other mental illnesses. It’s also so important to be real with your followers. I got off my anti-depressants about 3 years ago, and before then I was so dependent on them for about 3-4 years. The first couple months after being off them were some of the hardest I’ve ever lived through. Non stop crying, increased suicidal thoughts, depressive moods, random mood swings on top of that, and a lot of the relationships I had with people were falling apart because my emotions were so out of control. I wish I had seen this kind of video during that time because I felt so out of place without my medication because it helped me feel better tremendously, but at the same time it didn’t because it caused me to gain so much weight which didn’t help at all with my insecurities. Just know that it’s ok if you needs meds or not. Your need shouldn’t define your strength. It’s ok to admit that you need a little help. It’s perfectly ok! I hope you’re hanging in there fine and that you’re in a better place. You’re so beautiful Cassie and you’re such an incredible person! Stay strong, girl! 💜

I'm not unsympathetic at all, I work in the field of mental health and the stigma needs to be removed, depression or diabetes, both are illnesses that require treatment in a multidisciplinary way. The country in which I live, you may see a doctor and get a script with say 5 repeats. You need to go back to see the doctor once those 5 scripts are dispensed and you need another script. So, it has to be self managed. My eldest daughter has a chronic illness and it's my responsibility to make sure she never runs out of meds. If someone could explain how the script system works in the US, I'd appreciate it.

One of the best pieces of advice I've heard is "So far you've survived all of your worst days. You're doing great." Thanks for your testimony and I hope you're doing better. Depression sucks. I work in a clinic and I'd suggest asking they make this a high priority message or ask if there's a hold on your medication for an appointment or something. Otherwise, ask them to refill enough until you can find another provider.

Cassie, I’m so glad you posted this. It’s so horrible being disoriented from your brain not functioning the way you want it to, and/or hormones coming on top of it all. I have anxiety and PMDD and there are days I vacillate from wanting to destroy things to being extremely happy in a span of an hour. It’s comforting to know others are going through shit too. That I’m not broken.

Love you Cassie! I have a lot mental health issues, and I work in the mental health system helping others with the same types of issues. I can totally relate, and think that it is so brave of you to put yourself out there like this, because it shows others that they are not alone, and that even the people they look up to might be dealing with the same types of issues they are. I'm also so glad that you advocate medication as a possible solution as well. I see huge differences in the people I work with when they are taking their medications versus when they are not, as we as myself. One of my many mental health issues is trichotillomania, so, I can relate to other BFRBs too. Just keep trying not to pick, but if you do, understand that you are not a failure for doing so. Thank you for posting this amazingly brave video

I went off my Prozac 6months maybe a year ago. I regret every day. My room looks like a tornado went through it. My mood swings are horrible, and My work has suffered. I have tried to cope I really have but it was my choice. Mine. My script ran out and I have to see my doctor to refill it. Even with insurance I can not afford him and I wasn't being regular enough with my meds that I said fuck it. That was a long long way of saying I know exactly how you feel and honestly if I didn't have a job I would never leave my room. I appreciate you doing a video like this because the struggle is real. I describe my depression as being in a sand trap the harder you try to get out the deeper you get. I have to say this video is wonderful to see because I am you. I thought the meds helped me i am fine and I have to admit that I need them to function I do. Sending all my love to you momma . All of it.

I know this feeling all too well. I've been reducing my medication over this past month (been tapering over the course of a few years) - the crying spells, the brain zaps, headaches, sleep problems, the negative thinking - they are all too real in the moment. I've found that the best thing that helps me through those days is to give myself permission to REST. It's okay to rest. Give yourself permission to heal. I hate being without meds. People who are against meds for mental illness don't know what they are talking about. I get some side effects from my meds, but none of them are as bad as wanting to be dead and being afraid to leave my house. I cry A LOT when I'm without meds. When I have meds, I feel like a normal and healthy person. I feel like myself, but without the depression and anxiety. I don't cry as much and I don't have as many anxiety attacks. I definitely feel like a crazy person when I'm not on them. I've had to go without them several times, due to money and other health events, and each time I end up just like this. I've eaten a healthy diet and gone to the gym 5-7 days a week and it did not stop me from having episodes like this where I would cry for hours at a time for no reason. It would happen several times a week, and I was doing all of the "right things" that you're supposed to do to help depression. My depression is the result of a traumatic brain injury. It's a physiological condition that causes my brain to regulate hormones incorrectly. It affects other hormones, too! Sometimes I cannot tell when I'm hungry or full and I feel tired and have insomnia, because those are also controlled by hormones. It's real. IT'S REAL. MENTAL HEALTH IS REAL. Thank you for posting this, Cassie.

Incredibly brave, precious girl! It blows me away that it appears that some sicknesses are deemed worthy of medication (cancer, diabetes, flu, allergies); but we are supposed to simply ‘will ourselves into wellness’ with other life-threatening illnesses. Mental illness is so real and so pervasive - I believe that it is the root cause of most addictions and abuses. By speaking out, Cassie, you help remove the stigma and make it easier for someone else to seek the help they need. Well done, bravo and continue living well!❤️

I have trichotillomania and I pick at my skin all the time (my dad and brother have OCD but I've never been diagnosed), and while I can easily talk about my Depression, Anxiety, PTSD, and other issues, I can never talk about my picking due to shame. So thanks for talking about your dermatillomania on here. It makes me feel a little better knowing that other people struggle with the same issue.

Deanna Kalian I have OCD and trichotillomania. I had to shave my head a year ago bc of it. Youre not alone. It sucks, but we are strong!

I have OCD and hair pulling issues as well as depression and anxiety! When I get bald spots on my head from pulling, people look at me like I’m insane and can’t understand why I can’t stop! It’s very very frustrating and it’s nice to hear people talk about a similar thing with dermatillomania

That first week off your meds is killer. Every day feels like the worst day of your life. I was on six different antidepressants last year and only one didn't have horrible withdrawals. I totally get this video, hun.

Thank you for showing that you have real issues no matter what your going through, mental health is no joke and not something to brush off inner negative thoughts really can break you and take over to the point where you feel completely gone

I feel for you. I’ve been on Paxil since I was 13, I’m 41 now, and it’s amazing/horrifying how quickly it affects me if I forget to take it. Last month I tried to end my life and it’s a second to second struggle. I commend you for being brave enough to share this. When you tell people you suffer from mental illness many times they respond negatively. A million hugs and added respect for you as a woman 😀

Your not alone!!! Depression hits more people than you realise!!! You will get through this and come out stronger on the other side!!! By now it is well after this date, and I’m sure you are already feeling stronger and more able to face the world. Just take it one step at a time. For me just getting out of the house and doing 1 thing a walk, a movie, coffee with a mate, and calling Mum also worked wonders. She is my best mate!!!!The casserole family is here for you. 😊💪🏻😻

I’m so glad it was two step video! You are doing great with or without meds! This is life. And it is exactly how it works, you feel low, you feel high, you have losses, you have wins. As human beings we get adjusted to life circumstances and the only choice is to live and handle it in the best possible way you can. If you feel overwhelmed and unable to handle it , you have family, friends, professionals, meditations, medications and of course social media to help you get through! Life is so good and precious and deserves to experience both, low and high!

Thank you for being completely vulnerable to share this with us. It's somehow comforting to know that other people suffer depression and that I'm not alone. This video has also pushed me to get back on my medications and try to find the proper dosage that will help me better battle this.

The struggle and pain are real. People who don’t understand will tell you to shake it off, or snap out of it. That just makes it worse! You are a beautiful, BRAVE woman to bare your soul on a public forum. Please don’t take this down Cassie. People need to see this!! I’m very proud of you❤️😘

Omg you are so sweet and I love you for opening up and posting this. I deal with the same issues everyday and feel alone about it so this has helped me tremendously thank you so so much you don’t realize how much your videos have helped and inspired me. Please don’t cry.. easier said than done I know, but you’re so beautiful! Call you insurance company and see if there’s something they can do if the pharmacy themselves do not help out to refill your prescription. Lots of hugs and love your way!

thank you so much Candice!! Thankfully this was filmed long ago so everything has been sorted out and I've learned my lesson :) I'm so sorry to hear that you also struggle with mental illness but am SO GLAD to know that we can support each other in getting through the struggles that come along with it

I work at a Dr office and when I room my patients I see this all the time. It real, your not alone and I like spending a little extra time with them when they feel like this because want to make them feel better, although I don't personally struggle with this I like to let them say and feel what they are feeling and try to be there for them in that little time that I do my vitals before the Dr sees them. Never go to the pharmacy when you don't get you medications always always go straight to the Dr,it is the Dr that send the prescription and sometimes they lag,are busy or they do send it but for some reason it doesn't go through. Don't ever feel like your alone, it's very brave to put yourself out there and for people to judge. I hope that this helps and I enjoy watching your videos, your mukbangs are my favorite.
