She is giving the Tourism authorities excellent feedback and instead of appreciating it, folks are here getting defensive. Ghana has tremendous potential but our public sector needs a lot of work. Mediocrity and complacency exist . We must embrace feedback and learn very fast.
She's speaking the truth. I'm Ghanaian living in Australia & I can't afford to take holidays in Ghana often like I do Asia. You can get a 3 star hotel in Thailand or Malaysia or Indonesia for $70
Most Africans who are not well travelled will not relate with some of the things she is pointing out. I am Zimbabwean and i can totally relate about local prices that are sky high compared to the actual local wages. You can be on vacation from the US and easily go broke quickly in Africa if you do not know how to budget. Food in many places is super cheap. For less than $2 or so one can get a simple meal in Thailand. In Colombia one can buy a beer for less than 1 US dollar, you can buy a lunch meal that consists of rice, chicken, plantain, bowl of soup, asoda or fresh juice for about $3 to max $4 in local restaurants When you spend $20 is when you go to a nice restaurant in fancy areas. Our economies will not grow based on high prices. Things have to be affordable for more people to buy things otherwise there is only so many meals, or so many houses rich people can buy.
so true ,Asia is so cheap to promote tourism , roads,hotels, everything cheap , but Africans countries do not know how to promote their tourism.......sp sad

Anyone that thinks Ghana isn’t expensive, obviously hasn’t done any research or visited Ghana before moving there. Thailand isn’t known for its Safari’s so obviously it would be cheaper to go on Safari in Thailand. I don’t think it’s fair that Ghana has to be given instructions on how to be better for Tourists. The world is a big place. People travel to the countries they want to travel to. Many people travel to Ghana and compared to other African countries, it’s doing pretty well in many areas.
If Ghana wants to attract different tourist of different economic status they should listen to suggestions. Other place have tourist from different price points.
It’s not too much to ask for basic foundations like roads and unexposed sewers and clean environments. Thailand and everywhere else provides the basic minimum even in rural areas. Ghana leaders should stop humiliating themselves.
You are missing the point, this goes beyond just tourists. There is a lot of price gouging and ridiculous high prices in many places in Africa that are not connected to the local wages and general economic activity. I am from Southern Africa and can relate. Yes, tourists can choose to go anywhere. I can afford to go almost anywhere on this planet and enjoy a vacation and not worry too much about prices, but what about the majority of the local population who have no access to US dollars and earn very little. She is very correct that prices in Thailand are cheap. Her house there costs $225 a month, you can get street food for a $1 or $2. I just returned from the Petronio festival in Cali, Colombia and you can buy a beer for less than $1. You can also buy a lunch meal with rice, plantain, chicken or beef, a salad, a bowl of soup and fresh juice for 15 mil pesos which is just under $4. In most places in Africa you would be paying a lot more yet Colombia has a huge economy with a population and GDP almost equal to South Africa. Things have to be more affordable for the majority of the population as well as to generate more economic activity. Thats what grows the economy.
@@mavisburke495 Hey Mavis. You are so correct. Not to mention that most locals cannot afford to even take their family to a restaurant. Going out to eat should not be a luxury. Too many people who seek to take advantage and obtain high profits instead of having reasonable prices which attracts more people and in the end better for their business growth.
Colonized countries are copying the system of the colonizers. President KN and President Khadfi are gone for trying to make the government for the people. Just like the US. The for the people was stamped out violently in the 1960s through the 1970s.
I think u content creators , needs to bridge the gap between u and the authorities.. u shld do more to be closer so u can feed them with such kinds of conversation… it’s high time u elevate ur level to be more relevant than talking to just the streets and it ends there .. get information from the street try and reach out to authorities by any means possible by engaging them cos as good as this discussion is informative, it goes out of the tin air, ends right at where u made the discussion..
Its greed. She doesn’t want to say it but its greed of locals and short term thinking. Overcharging for a product/service so you can take advantage of tourists and even your fellow Ghanaians keeps you poor. You will get 2 customers a years versus 30. They don’t think about pricing for longevity. Stop comparing Ghana prices to US prices. The service, convenience and quality of service/products are not comparable to the US so it shouldn’t be the same. Furniture in the US is importing wood from Ghana to make it, Ghana has the wood down the street, no import cost. So why should furniture in Ghana cost the same or more than US. What will happen is people will just start importing everything versus buying from locals.
Wish I could have been her chaperone, she would have had a completely different experience! i may just need a social media content strategist as well… still, great interview, I was like that 8 years ago. Like a lot of diasporains she had a valid break down of what they see wrong with Ghana but nowhere near good enough grasp of global economics, industry, history, etc to truly understand why it’s like that and what the solutions would have to be.

Just making this comment. I recently watching a RU-vidr by the name Oh Yes Africa and she do videos going around to show the prices in Ghana and it is way cheaper than Jamaica where I live
Why do Americans always Ghana to move to? Far more stable and less corrupt countries to choose from on the continent like Botswana, Seychelles, Cabo Verde, Mauritius.

So When will AA's gonna learn? This is the time for them to invest but Always go to Africa and complain about unnecessary things. Africa is the future and they will miss it big time. Instead of two or three of them come together with capital to invest in Africa, they always go around whining. Ghana Must stop focusing on AA's and focus on Chinese and others who are not afraid to get their hands dirty and will overlook at unnecessary things like bad roads, who will bring investments into the country so that we can grow our economy. And oneday these same AA'S and Blacks in Diaspora will come back to Africa and complain why so many Chinese/White rich people are here? Cheers from Ghana 🇬🇭
