@@aestevalis0 As a rule, I report each one I see as "Hate speech". RU-vid can get into serious trouble for allowing that kind of thing to continue, so I'm pretty sure if enough people report it as such, the algorithm will be tweaked to start removing all comments these bot accounts make (If only to stop people wrongfully marking them as this).
"if you want to learn the proper ways to do things, don't come here". This is one of the reasons I love Laura, it's more than just learning things, it's the raw, real person. Right down to the self-deprecating humor, she's 100% authentic.
Come here to learn how to do the wrong thing the right way. It's just as valuable as learning to do the right thing sometimes. Laura is one of this middle aged "know it all" maker dudes favorite do-ers. LAURA FOR THE WIN!!!!
So funny, I just thought about my father. As I was a Kid i have had my own little workbench in my tiny little workspace outside in an old barn next to our house. Everytime I want do work on something I want to do it like Laura….just do it. Sometime it worked out well, sometimes not. My father always wanted me to draw a plan before I do something…..it drove me mad. 😂I don’t draw plans.
“If you want to learn about proper ways to do stuff, don’t come here.” That’s exactly why I’m here! Creativity dies when you do things the “proper way”.
I think all the organizing you did at Simone’s shop awakened your spring cleaning bug! I am curious what clever tricks you will employ to create an entrance to your new home, or will you just always use the ladder? The advantage of the ladder is it can be pulled into the tiny house like a medieval defense mechanism.
Everything is coming together! One point about your tiny house on wheels, is to take some load off the wheels by putting jack-stands under if possible. The longer of any wheel that stays in one spot, you get flat spots. And to get tire covers to prevent dry rot from UV. Good luck! 🍀🍀🍀
I love how fearlessly Laura reshapes her workspace and home space to suit her needs as they change. Also love how she has a stash of scrap where she can go find a dial that suits her desires.
You should think about stabilizers for the tiny home. The tires are low already. If they get lower or go flat, your house could tip and theres the possibility it could fall over. Potentially while you're in it.
RV tires are replaced based on age not tire wear due to UV damage. And when they sit for a while, the tire should be covered to protect them from the UV. And since you're rolling those tires over property that **might have a few nails and sharp edges**, you really need to be thinking about stabilizers in case you lose a tire.
Going to do anything to protect the tires of the tiny house? People who leave RVs in one spot for a long time cover the wheels to protect them from sunlight/UV damage over time.
My favorite part about keeping up with Laura’s channel is that it reminds me that even when I’m buried under mishaps or challenges, as long as I keep plugging away at things I will get on the other side of the bad days. Thanks for the reminder Laura and team ❤️
Hi, I’m Mike and I’m a 41 year old guy from New Hampshire who knows says “GEIL!” whenever something is cool. So, even if I don’t learn the proper way to do anything from these videos, I expand my vocabulary. Thanks Laura and Felix!
For the "gravel pit", it's not ideal for grass. But if you want to be able drive on it, there are two ways. The old way is to lay a series of concrete blocks with their center holes vertically and fill this with dirt. The other, that is used in commercial settings is a plastic, honeycomb shaped, series of panels that can be used for driveways. At my former job, a builder wanted to use it for the fire alley around a building and we actually got to drive a firetruck on it without any problem. So this stuff is really good.
Depending on the size distribution and material you can easily drive on gravel AND have plants in it. However, I wouldn’t recommend regular lawn grass but getting a special mix of grasses and herbs for dry and nutrient-depleted locations. German keyword: „Kräuterrasen für Magerstandorte“. Then you’ll have small flowers in there as well and it looks really nice!
Well the ground looks very compacted, so it wouldn't work for plants other than grass. And without the solutions mentioned above, the grass will not thrive. There will be puddles and bare gravel.
@@claudiajurgensen9544 if you only drive there occasionally it won’t me a problem. And there sure are pls ts that tolerate this situation. Grass actually needs much more nutrients (compost or fertilizer) to thrive - in contrast to native herbs.
It sounds like the only vehicle to drive on there will be the forklift. And probably very occasionally the tiny house. Very little traffic, probably no need for a “proper” solution.
I've been working on my own tiny house by myself since before this series started. You're moving in, and I'm still fighting rusty floor joists. So happy for you and I hope to have a crew of help myself someday.
What I love 💗 is that you decide what recycled objects you want to use, like the Hapag Lloyd tin drawer, then build the frame around them. Most of us don’t get that look because we build a set of shelves, then just put random stuff on them. Great job 👍
I love the imperfections. I am definitely not anything close to an actual crafter/maker. Pretty much everything I make, I call a "prototype". They're not pretty, but I learn from them and make improvements on the next iteration after using the original for a while.
My family has a joke that our family crest, were we to have one would have: "It's fine! Good enough!" as the motto. Most of the things we make are not exactly mastercraft, but they work, and look OK, so in our minds, good enough.
One thing that may or may not work for the small forklift, depends on how strong the lift arm is, and how much the forks are at a locked 90 to the forklift vs lifting up at the tips....when you get the front wheels stuck and you have the ability to lift the front forks straight up, if they are in a locked 90 vs being able to rotate, you may be able to put blocks under the forks and then use that pressing down force to lift the front wheels. That same method can be used on tractors with a front high lift to get the front wheels out of a hole. I agree with the one other comment on the sideways cement blocks and dirt being better for grass that gravel. For longer term parking of the tiny house, you should put it up on blocks/lift stands vs the tires. That is why when they do mobile homes they run them into place on wheels then jack it up to put on blocks. Longer term is can be more stable that way. Fun video to watch in any case.
Ok, this is super cool. I had a concern though. Maybe put jacks or blocks under your tiny house so that if the tires go flat, the tiny house will not lean or fall over.... Super Geil!
You don't NEED steam to bend wood, if the strips are thin enough, glue 2 strips together, and use a 2 part mould to clamp for long enough for glue to set up Alternately bend the glued strips around a large diameter pippe, bucket, pan etc The bend will stay in place while you fix it to the shelf
I would love to see a staircase build sometime soon. A way to get in and out of your lovely house that isn't a ladder. Lol it would be cool to have one that flips up or under too so you don't have to move it separately. It just comes with the house. ❤
5:51 It's perfectly OK to be impatient about steam bending; that's why multiple layer lamination was invented. You basically take 3-5 layers of even thinner strips (like veneer thin), glue them up and they will conform to your shapes even better. Leave them long (and perhaps wide) and cut off and plane/sand sides afterwards. Thanks for the vid, congrats on the new tiny house
“If you want to learn the proper way to do stuff…” As a heavy equipment operator (among other disparate trades) of some *cough* years, demonstrating how to use the *back* of a loader bucket to spread, level, and fill gravel, I say you know more than you know you know. :) (yes, it leads to wear on surfaces that aren’t typically fitted with ground engaging replaceable wear components, but with a wheeled or even tracked loader trying to finish grade, I find using the back-edge to simulate the action of a motor grader, using the flat of the bucket to maintain the plane of the grade well worth the extra hours I spend in the shop with the welder.)
Laura, looks wonderful. The little pull out drawer with the nail head exposed is what I call ‘The Gods Eye’. As a fabric maker there is always a miss step in everything I make. My fabric mentor told me when I was frustrated that my work was not perfect she said “If there is not a ‘Gods Eye’ in your work then you have not created a work.”
You can put a wood infront of the crates to blend in with the other doors if I may say so 😊😊😊. Am from the Philippines! Always been waiting for your clog as I love doing scraps and all sorts… love what you’re doing! Makes me think a lot! Thanks!!!
Nice to know I'm not the only one who can get easily distracted with reorganizing abs cleaning! We were building a drawer but switched gears to building abs organizing! LOVE IT!! 😍
My Grandfather would have LOVED your channel! He was highly educated and liked perfection but he also had a fly by the seat of your pants side that very few people knew (not even his kids) I was lucky enough to know that side of him and I cherish that. He would have saved every one of your videos and watched them numerous times. 💕👍🏼👍🏼
I get it, waiting for the steam and mostly building a chamber and stuff is exhausting. Just throwing the wood in warm water for 20min works fine too. It did a hole bandlamination chair only with warm water and it works great. My 2cents...
Wow, where has this site been all my life? I'm a sixty seven year old woman who loves to work with wood and do home renovations. I think I have found a kindred spirit!
I love the little drawer! So cute! Can we see the other side of the tiny house? Is there a nice chair to sit by the fireplace or something? I'd like a full 'tour'!
It is a very powerful thing - to choose to ignore "what is the proper way" or "how is this usually done", and instead to trust your own knowledge. In this way we truly innovate, whether we succeed or we fail. I needed a reminder of this, for me and for my small children. Thank you. (and you know I am a stranger but if you'd like to meet those small children you would be welcome.)
As soon as I saw you using glue for the little drawer I was like, "yes! Let glue dry sign time!", and then you whip out a cute little baby glue sign 😮😍😍 also Felix is wonderful
We live a world apart I am just an old machinist from Mississippi but I love your drive your skills and your spirit you are special. I am proud of you and proud for you that you have finished your tiny house.God Bless you.
PMSL! Not patient enough !!! I know that feeling.... PMSL! I want it now!!!!!!!!! I know that feeling too...PMSL! Of course you are an accomplished creator Laura I knew you knew what you were doing. Love your videos. Glad it's all come together and you are now living in your tiny house. Looks FABULOUS!
This made me so happy, Sundays always make my day because of these uploads. Awesome job on the Festool station and with the house/party area! Can't wait to see it in the spring!
Have you considered converting another of the long pallets into a small landing and stairs for your door? Maybe you could design and construct it with supports that fold up and a corresponding structure under the trailer where the landing could be stored when the trailer is being moved to another location. Have you considered using a French Cleat system to hang and organize things in your shop. Horizontal slats can be installed on walls at regular intervals and shelves, boxes or other items can be hung or moved as needed. Wishing you and your friends a blessed week filled with gentle seasonally appropriate weather and restful evenings. Peace Laura
Your tiny house is so sweet! I’ve always loved the concept of tiny homes. In Canada (BC) tiny home are the super popular. We have in the interior so much open space and people love to be off grid. Buy a piece of property, build a tiny home and you are set. I’d love to see a video on how you set up the shaper to do the finger joints. Your place is amazing! I love what you do!
Lovely video as always. I must say that I really enjoy the organising videos too like this and I look forward to see the make over of the backyard and would like to see further organisation/improvements of the workshop, like you did with Simone in her video recently 🥰 Either way, I'll be back next week for a new video!
”temporary final destination” , I love it. It is the best definition to many topics, similar than “ never again before next time” I will borrow it in the future many times 😆
I think it would be really neat to have some concealed lights around the top of the walls that shine up the curve of the ceiling. The house looks so nice!
I really appreciate how you save stuff and upcycle. The fact that you've got the different areas/rooms for things is great. You mentioned you didn't have a BBQ. I immediately thought, she's got to have the fixin's to make one... :-D
I love how Festool gives you all their tools with dust collection which is pretty much their trademark, and still you do everything the Laura way with little to none dust collection. The tiny house is coming along great.
If you are not patient enough for steam bending, then try with heat alone - apply heat with a heat gun (carefully) while bending the wood slowly to the shape you need 😊
In my life I have learned so much from experimentation. Love Laura’s channel so much for this reason. I see when she should have, but learned so much from her redoing
Thanks for this lovely journey, Laura and Felix. Your skills, resources, personal spirit come together to our great advantage! I am always inspired & awed by your imagination & process and by the quality and clean lines of all you produce . Congratulations on bringing your place all together. It is so more than just projects complete. It foundational for what is next. Gratitude for all you share with us. 💛 Vermont
I loved this post Laura, especially after all the ups & downs of the whole project, both frustrating & amusing. I always learn a little something as well, for which I'm very grateful I found you. Looking forward to your next post
