I moved out at 16. One of the best decisions I’ve ever made. My parents just got divorced and mom was figuring out a new family with her new husband, there was no place for me in that home. Nobody pushed me into it, I just wanted to leave. Made me learn a lot about being responsible and independent, and helped me improve the relationship with my mom. Sometimes distance does make the heart grow fonder.

@@karbs4kids740If you really need to leave your family there are sometimes social programs which helps teenage girls or teenage boys until they are 18ish, they make sure you have therapy and a job/apprentice at the end or the financial support to graduate and not live at home. They also usually know where the affordable apartments are. Here in the EU where I live it's free and they did help me. But in the US I think it might depend on the state if you have this type of thing and if it still costs something. As long as it's not sketchy and actually social workers work there you should be fine. I was in a house with some other girls. It was actually so beautiful and helped me a lot. If you have a social worker they might help you, or better said you have to get in contact with social workers or search for your possibilities where you live. You can also try living with your friends but please don't make yourself financially depended on a partner, since it you endure ab_se you might have nowhere to go. So friends, grandma and grandpa or something like the thing I described. Side information: Here in the EU I was also financially and emotionally supported by social workers for free until I was like 21. But most get this help until around 18. After I moved out of this "social work - house" I was still supported 6 months in my very own first apartment. They helped me with documents and everything. I did not regret running away, I am actually so proud of me and it was the best decision of my life. But it could have gone wrong if I hadn't had the possibilities and structure of my country. So if you are in the US or don't already have a social worker, you might look up the internet if theres some kind of programm similar to this in your state or surrounding. Keep in mind that IT HAS TO BE REGULATED and controlled. You don't want to run into the hands of (other) ab_sers. But actual social workers with degrees who know what they are doing and really helping you. Do not let this discourage you, it's just how life is, stranger who are evil prey mostly on the already vulnerable and you should be careful. Good people will always understand your carefulness. But as i said where I live it's highly regulated highly controlled and children's rights are very important. So I got the help VERY easily. You might have to search for the right thing. Then contact the people or show up and ask there for help.

Friendly reminder to always lock your door immediately even if you'll be back in five minutes, it'll only take one for someone to break in. Carry defense items such as: pocket knife, portable alarm, a lighter, pins, tasers, and pepper spray. Always make sure you buy pepper spray and tasers that actually pack a punch, some brands are *very* cheap. When out, please make sure your not alone at all costs. Bring a friend or family with you. Just make sure you know most of what could happen and they can, don't think they won't happen to you cause that's where you become an easy target. *Always Be Aware of Your Surroundings.*

I'm 24 and still live with my parents. It's a huge emotional battle between wanting to move out and make my own life but what I hate is the idea of not hearing their voices everyday, waking up to them making one of my favorite dishes, the I love yous, even just the comfort of knowing that they're just a hallway away is something I fear losing. They're getting older and I fear not being by their side through possible hardships. They need to be told they're loved and helped when they need it. When you truly love something it tears you apart to be away from them.

@hi.171
@hi.171 11 месяцев назад
Hey um... It's so unexpectedly amazing that you are experiencing non-abusive parents, they seem to be your true loved ones so I see that is something that's hard to live without. What I want to share with you is : use your time with them the fullest and enjoy time with them, but be aware though there's still that time you will have to move out, since you probably wouldn't want to stay on their backs for forever. I think it would be great for you to move somewhere close so you can meet them many times in just a week, don't forget to keep this in your head (it'll help to carry on) that you won't be loosing them, you'll see them not as often, but that doesn't mean they disappear from your life, that the things you do together would not exist anymore, so with that thought you still need to move on and carry on as your adulthood already has started, it's the most important time of your life, so really use it most. It's going to be hard, but worth it - becoming independent and using your adulthood wisely from the start is providing for your best future, it's feeling the best in reward when you already have made your own life (not excluding them, but as an independent individual that can keep relationships close in their life or as a new family holding to connections with other family members). You may not need my advice, but if I were to, I'd advise you to use the time your best and embrace their existence too (as they matter to you and your relationships are on good terms), but obviously to think about yourself and the future of yours too the most. I need to mention that if you will move out it isn't going to mean that you won't meet them again or that it will be rare, because it's you who makes your story (meaning: so you can visit them as much as you'd like) and of course if you visit them the love yous they'll give will be even bigger and more felt.. It won't be the end of the story for your relationships, it will be more like a whole new chapter in the book, so feel motivated do something about it as additionally it's not good at all to be relying on someone for this long. Also, again - embrace them! Well this comes from this, that my story is not so "shine bright" like yours with relatives.. and many others that are in similar situations don't experience healthy relationships with "loved ones" so what I'm saying is our stores are that different that you try to enjoy the most with them.. when I try to survive the least so I can legally move out (escape, and legally, because I'm not 18 yet, sucks.)... I don't mean for you to feel bad or anything, it's just I understand your situation, but the facts you've told can't hold you back from going forward pure stranger. Cheers, keep going!

It's such an insane feeling moving out. I remember being 18 in a college dorm and hugging my family goodbye. We're not physical and we dont say I love you but the love is there. It's in the things we say and do. It was both emotional and dreadful. The sense of panic and deep loss was real. It was like "well....what now?" Type of moment. I just unpacked walked around campus and then slept from 4pm. I moved to a pretty far campus so nobody I knew. I woke up and it was still dark. I watched the sunrise and for the first time in my life I was truly alone. My mom would call and she said "it was frustrating raising you guys and then I blinked and all of a sudden i didn't want any of you to leave. I just assumed youd be with us forever. " living alone provides growth but it enhances your gratitude. You begin to understand why family is so important. They are the only people who you can turn your back to. And I mean family not in the genetic sense but in the spiritual sense.

Love a parents who loves me back for being a little rascal most the time edit: i’ve been raised in a way that i can survive and independently😂 they never babied me and my siblings, aren’t the kind to baby really and them protecting us is their way of showing love most of the time. I’d say we did have to learn a lot on our own without parent help, but we love our parents back the same way they do us. The smallest thing being changed triggered an emotional breakdown. Hope you adjust well; it’s strange but you’ll get used to it eventually. Stay strong

I’m 19 and the thought of leaving my mom is just awful to me. Not because I feel like I need to be taken care of all the time, but I genuinely don’t know how I’d cope with not being to see her every day, hear her voice, spend time in the yard with her, cook meals with her, all the little things. Even just hearing her move around the house knowing she’s around. I can’t imagine living without that. I love my mom so much. I want to spend every moment with her that I can because they won’t last forever.

I am Asian, whenever i talk about my future and thinking if i can live alobe now.. My mom will dramatically emotional.. I feel bad for her and i planned to stay at my parent house until the world end.. Bcs i never want to spend a min/ day/ hrs without them... Even they are kinda like toxic but no! I never move out from our own house.. Bcs i still love them even if they are sometime violent due too stress but i still care for them,, the reason i won't move out bcs: 1. My daddy work hard to pay all bills in the house.. 2. My daddy always buy anything i wish for.. 3. If i left them alone i feel like im the worst daughter who forget her own parents.. 4. If i left them alone i afraid of what happen to them ( bcs we don't know what is happening to them) 5. If they die, i dont want them to die alone... I will sit next to them even they already gone. 6. If i moved out i feel lonely.. And when i grow up it my turn to take care everything in the house and paybck to my daddy.. 10. I still cry like kids if i were apart from them( if i moved out and sleep alone i will cry nonstop and feel want to come bck).. That the reason.. I love you momy dady..✨✨🥺🥺❤❤❤❤

I wish I at least had enough street smarts to know who to trust when I first moved out, but I was just worried everyone was out to get me back then. If I did, maybe I could've found a new family, but I'm in a pretty good place at the moment. Not great, but leagues better.

My mother kicked me out for something I never did. I was 18, and she had always said she would be happy to support me and house me until I was ready, whenever that was. Then she took my phone to dig through private conversations, took away every device so I couldn't contact anyone, and begrudgingly let me call my therapist during my 5th crisis. She controlled everything I did for three days at the beginning of the lock down. Chores all day, gave me the silent treatment, called a whore. She controlled what I wore so that I wouldn't be 'tempting' anyone and to stay humble in my rags. She dropped me off at my grandparents' house (my dad's parents, not hers, her family is in another country) and didn't come back. She told me that I wasn't allowed back. I didn't get a chance to pack, to say goodbye to my beloved cat, my home. I know I was legally an adult but I was unprepared, and she threw me out with what I had on me. She refused to send me my things for months. She cut contact with me. She never asked my grandparents how long they'd be ok with housing me and didn't give them a heads up or me. I was so hurt. It makes me sad that others experienced this, by choice or by force. That abrupt change is so world shattering.

I moved out when I turned 21 and ended up pregnant with my first born..I was never able to live my own life because my mother would end up needing me to stay up and babysit my disabled sister and my grandmother (who treated me like a slave until I turned 18) I didn't go out and party, I grow up being a mother figure, a nurse, a therapist, a friend, a care taker, a maid and more at the age of 5.. moving in with my soon to be husband I realized i ask him for permission to do things, scared to ask him for help, scared to do anything that would upset him yet since moving here..I learn more that I'm a child at heart and we play around, game together and we plan small walks and movie nights before we fall asleep together..we both just fell into place and even being far from home, I learned to let go when my mother told everyone I got pregnant to get away from her..she still tries to guilt trip me on everything happening and she hardly calls or texts me unless it's something to nag about back at home.. Sometimes it's better to move away and figure yourself out then remain and let loved ones ruin your chances of exploring and understanding life on your own..

Even people with 6 figure salaries struggle to get an acceptable place to live, and as an 18 yr old you’re not gonna be making anything close to even 50k to start. Just tell your parents no very directly and that you also aren’t paying rent to live with your own family, they should be helping you live and not making your entire life more difficult. Unless, of course, they provide the money for you to move out and you get a say in where you live.

Although it's a different experience, some days it was hard to accept that it was a decision I didn't choose but was chosen for me, and made me feel unwanted. It made me grow up really fast, which looking back 15yrs later I'm actually thankful for. All I can say is: hang in there, life does get better. Just take it one day at a time and keep doing your best. Make choices that show that you're worth it, and just keep showing up. Everyday you're alive is a good day.

It's different for everyone but one thing stays the same. Its absolutely terrifying, you are now the man or woman of the house, but it's not your parents house. It's your house, with things under your name. Depending on if it's something you rent or own you could be responsible for repairs. And even if mom and dad are there for you, they wont always be there to help. The freedom you expect is still there and it's great. But personally, it made me angry for taking my youth for granted. I wanted so badly to be where I am now and now sometimes I'd do anything to go back.
