I thoroughly enjoyed the motorcycle gift and riding part, however, I am a bit confused by the screaming knife part... I'm left wondering what happened... but I guess the yelling soured the mood of the coming birthday joy? Or The Spirited Man literally yelled the details of the surprise in some way?

I get pissed off when I have something in my head I want to get done, and then I am informed "but we have XYZ this weekend" or I get told " but you can just do that later"..... NO, I have other things to do, and I need to do this thing now to get it off my list and out of the way. I have lots of reasons. I got into a fight about being anti-social when my mother in law came over to see my son. I talked to her for 20 minutes while he was napping. But she didn't come to see me and that's okay. I agree 100%. Amidst all the youtube’s recreational, all smoke and mirrors and self-help content, it is refreshing to find a space aiming simply to share and reflect. Something that feels real, worldy and relatable, yet exotic, both for its context and for the artistic and crafting hallmark approach. I also truly appreciate, especially in this video, although many crumbs and nuggets can be found every now and then, that topics such as manhood and vulnerability are often addressed. I really thank and admire ye, Mr. Van Neistat, for openly doing so. There is also something about the way these stories are told. I’ve liked and enjoyed most of Mr. Casey Neistat’s work, although the vlog personally didn’t click so much with me, but boy, what a titanic effort and amazing energy he displayed all that time. Here, the peace of the story-telling just does it. Thank you very much for these wonderful gems and spirited gifts.

This Spirited Man has a similar struggle. He has to remind himself that moments of anger do not define him entirely. He can be more. Some cheap knives will keep a relatively sharp edge with proper use and can be washed in the dishwasher. It depends on the metal. The expensive knives with relatively soft metals that can be sharpened a bit sharper will lose that fine edge really quickly with one slip up. Looking at the handle, they have a knife like a 1994 Toyota Carolla, but she wants to treat it like new BMW. I can understand his frustration.
@TheNykademos
@TheNykademos 3 года назад
The issue is not the knife at all though. It's communication, he's mad at himself for communicating in a hostile fashion when his recent gift was meant to communicate a different feeling, a $7000 dollar message undermined by a single moment of impatience and lack of self control. But, we all know that even the best of us have shit-head moments and I'm sure she understands this too. Given that he acknowledges the issue and shows remorse, what would she have to gain by pushing the issue further? He is obviously aware he was wrong and isn't happy about it. There's nothing left to argue about unless you're just really petty about the knife. Knives are cheaper than divorce.

It's not about the knife(even though they don't belong in the dishwasher). It's about latent anger, the knife is just the convenient prop. I used to do the same thing except to random people in cars and my ex-wife and anyone else that I got triggered by. I soon learned that the anger was anger at myself, my trauma, how I grew up. Until I got help in understanding my childhood wounds and working on myself, only then did I start to replace anger with understanding and kindness(for myself). It's not about the knife, it's not about Isabellle, it's about you. Love your storytelling.
