@Scott Stephens Speedbumps on a 35 mph road? There are no speedbumps designed for that speed, not to mention it slows respond times for first responds and makes it difficult for ambulance crews to work while on the move. Mate, I have an idea. What you need to do is get a big led sign which reads 'Car currently backing out of the driveway ahead, please slow down.' You put two of these signs up on the road far enough from your driveway for people to see them, one in each direction. Then you wire them to your remote, and you can illuminate your signs each time you pull in and out. This way they will see you earlier.

In Brazil, buildings that have a sidewalk in front of the garage door are required to put some flashing lights to warn pedestrians. So, when the garage door opens, the lights turn on. Because of this idea, people also put flashing lights if the door ends directly onto the street, so cars can slow down. It's not required, but it is smart.

No doubt. Men who drive trucks back in(without whining about it) it's just what we do because it's smarter. That light seems like a good idea until you get complacent and think it's always safe and then somebody who doesn't care about the cops mows you down. So suck it up and back in every time.

Any local teenage/20 something GTI drivers are going to get wise to your deception and it will have less effect for them after they pass it a few times… that being said, still a great solution and will no doubt be very effective for most. Nice work!
@gato311
@gato311 3 года назад
As far as I understand, the idea is to only flash the light when actually someone is pulling out, not to "educate" all "speeders".
@heyscottmarshall
@heyscottmarshall 3 года назад
@@gato311 true, so it will take a while for that hypothetical oblivious invincible speeding local poor break having GTI driving teen to get caught twice in this trick… but once he gets wise, he’s gonna ignore and speed right on past!… Unless of course he’s a decent caring human who learns the flashing lights mean VanFam is just trying to pull out of their driveway and heeds the right of way. Great solution, nonetheless. Kudos to that spirited man!

If someone locks their brakes/skids/causes an accident on account of those lights, you could be held liable for causing a dangerous condition. And it would be justified. Not sure why you don't understand how mirrors work but maybe rethink that option.
@izvr
@izvr 3 года назад
Justified.. how exactly?
@BixbyConsequence
@BixbyConsequence 3 года назад
@@izvr You could see that as soon as he activated the lights to test, a driver slammed on their brakes and nearly swerved across the median. It's an accident waiting to happen. Not to mention that the lights are likely using colors reserved by law for emergency vehicles (hence the gray-out in the video). The local cops may be giving him a pass, but any accident victims will surely not be as forgiving.
@izvr
@izvr 3 года назад
@@BixbyConsequence Yeah no, I got your point about the possible accidents, but what can anyone (besides from law enforcement) do? He's just toggling some lights on and off on his property, in essence you could make the same point about someone's christmas lights
@BixbyConsequence
@BixbyConsequence 3 года назад
@@izvr Should it lead to an accident, the victim(s) could sue for damages or loss of life. And if the lights are illegal it gives them more of a case.

As cool as this video is, I just hate the fact that there’s going to be someone who is going to report this, or police won’t understand what you’re trying to achieve with all this, even if you explain it to them or show them the video. Which sucks. But this is the world we live in. It’s just a matter of time until someone will call the law enforcement on this. Awesome idea, it’s just not a good idea to put it up on RU-vid, in my opinion.

Just so good. Not sure if you know the comedian Tony Baker (animal voice over guy), but tragically he lost his son recently, when their car was t boned in los angeles by speedsters. So the problem is clearly very real. Really nice solution. Stay safe.

It was the gti at the end for me lol. Production idea: a solar powered flashing light post, kinda like a mailbox right, one on ither side of the road. Lights face both directions. You either push a button to activate or a motion sensor in your driveway a settable timer in 30sec increments. Replaceable Colored lenses to fit different town rules and also like other parts make them Replaceable plastic for ease of fixing.

That should be a "shark tank" pitch. I grew up on a blind hill with the speed limit 55mph here in michigan. A mirror wouldn't work because it would be on the neighbors property. Thinking solutions to a problem thought unsolvable, or just something you have to deal with is why I appreciate your channel. Thank you Van. Keep it up
