Thank you to our Supreme Patron Vlad for this WACKY request...
I had no idea what that beginning was about but it certainly intrigued me... but damn once those drums and bass kicked in... wow! What a funky, progressive sound. And the vocalist totally reminded me of Mike Patton. He was certainly a wacky dude. I want to hear more!!

If you’d like to donate to the channel or just show your appreciation, all the details are below. All donations and tips that come from you, go into my daughters college fund and a fund for channel equipment. I created this channel for her so she has videos of her father talking and doing something he enjoys(listening to music and talking about it) since I don’t have any of those of my father. I decided that all funds that might come from this will go to her as well :) thank you again for your generosity guys, I appreciate you all more then you will ever know.
Your name will be added to the Thank you supporters’ video that plays at the end of every video and you get to pick a video for me to react to. Thank you so much!! If you donate and pick a song, I will get to it in under 24 hours!

Gong are a trip. Their sound evolved greatly over the length of their career. This is from their super trippy phase. They morphed into a jazz fusion outfit for a while, too.
@simonrangeley
The number one hippy acid band. So much talent. Welcome to the Planet Gong and the world of the Pothead Pixies. Dive in and enjoy the ride. Mañana banana nirvana.
@FireMunki63
I count myself very lucky to have seen Gong live and even to have spent time with Didier Malherbe who plays saxes for them in their peak period. Big fan too of Steve Hillage solo work who is absolutely worth checking out too. Goodness you are about to tap into one rich vein of musical mania.
@michaelw.4434
Steve hillage great guitar player,Solomon song is a good one of his,,,, lots of great musicians had passed through that band,,RIP daavid
@bobthebomb6498
There's only one way to describe Gong; bloody good (but nutty) musicians having fun.
@Spillage66
Listen to the , "Angel's Egg" version. The intro on this video has nothing to do with the song at all. They were actually chanting, "AUM" before they started. Mike Howlett and Pierre Moerlen, Bass and drums respectively, do the intro on the album recording... Didier on sax, and Steve Hillage on guitar, along with Tim Blake on synth' are the classic Trilogy Gong line up.
@bernmahan1162
Acid is right! They were many a tripper's favourite band (along with Hawkwind) in the early 70's. The mad hats come from the band's mythology of the "Pot Head Pixies"... long story!
@mikemicrael5749
I went to the Gong Unconvention in Amsterdam in 2006 and was totally blown away by every performance. You will probably love guitarist Steve Hillage's solo work. One of the many offshoots of Gong is Pierre Moerlen's Gong, which is much more fusion-y and less trippy. Daevid Allen could mesmerize you when speaking to you. He had a wizardly way about him that was tangible. Enjoy your space trip. You will probably also like Hawkwind for more space rock.
@jackal59
In some ways, what Daevid Allen is doing is conducting the band. I think Gong pissed some people off because a bunch of irresponsible space hippies shouldn't be able to play this damn good. I know they pissed Christian Vander off when Gong and Magma shared bills in the 70s. The ill will apparently was mutual, given that Allen after that pretty much called Vander a Nazi (which, as much as I love Magma, Vander probably is to some extent).
@SPKdesign1
Check oot The Pot Head Pixies Trilogy, "Flying Teapot (Radio Gnome Invisible Pt I), Angel's Egg (Radio Gnome Invisible (Part II) and You. Also the Prologue Camembert Electrique".
@rhinewater
The guitarist, Steve Hillage, recorded his first solo album ("Fish Rising") back to back with the recording of the Gong album that this track appears on ("Angel's Egg") - hence pretty much the same lineup and similar groove. Both fantastic albums.
@IanHillan
Oh, yeah. Gong, Live Etc, is an album i grabbed on a whim at Selectadisc second hand record store in Nottongham sometime in 1978...because I liked the cover. Its been on my playlist ever since and I never ever get tired of it or them. Rabbit hole time!
@FireMunki63
They are the original pothead pixies
@chrisbarlow2131
Gong for all their hippie leanings underneath were serious jazzers! I absolutely love this version - and this version was THE one to listen to.Good choice mate.
@Rolling_Ronnie
Welcome to Space Rock! Incredible musicians doing mad stuff 🙂Leader/Vocalist Daevid Allen (who was Australian) was a founder member of Soft Machine along with Kevin Ayers and Robert Wyatt (among others) before forming Gong when he went to France with Soft Machine and then wasn't allowed back into England!!. Steve Hillage was in the bands Khan and Archazel with another Canterbury Scene genius, keyboardist Dave Stewart, who was in Hatfield & The North and National Health.
@michaelabbott9080
The music of my teen years...In the 1980s and 90s I was an engineer at Electric Lady, Hit Factory and Criteria studios. We made some great records, but sadly no prog.
@ronniefarnsworth6465
Gong was a Fantastic Classic Prog-Fusion band !!! 👍
@mark240862
This is what many would consider to be the 'classic' line up of Gong. They are still gigging and making records today. Each member your watching has gone on to further success but I will bring up their bassist Mike Howlett as an example.
@dustybaron5942
Yes, this is definitely acid rock since these guys were tripping when they made this video.
