Many try to explain AJ's talent and most use words like out of this world, re-incarnated, old soul, alien, and so forth. I think all are trying to say the same thing. Here's what Angelina has to say: At twelve in an interview when asked the first question "when I see you on stage, I wonder who do you feel that you become?" [fishing for a particular artist, I'm sure] Her answer was: "When I sing, I go to another world. It’s ...in the world it’s like an endless. It's amazing. It's like full of happiness. And I love ...It's amazing." [her exact words] She brings that world to us, just for a time when she sings. Whatever you believe that place she goes to may be; Enjoy the Angelina journey! I'm sure we are meant to.

his name is Ivan Mendez. He was her go-to musician when she is US. this is prior to the pandemic. to many AJ fans, their partnership was great. Together they produced many great performances, namely Million Years Ago, Stay, California Dreaming, Happier. etc... BTW, I don't know if you are aware that this song, Million Years Ago, is Adele's song. Anyway, I always enjoy your reaction and words of wisdom.

I still believe that Ivan deserves to make more songs with her, I really love this part of her life. The respect and admiration that I have perceived from Ivan to Angelina Is hard to find. And to find a minimalist guitarist to really really understand angelina ! All my respect to Ivan I really like them together He enjoys like a little happy kids He give to Angelina all the space she needs to move the songs as she does. Even today hearing the new ones with the Piano I feel that the pianist is taking to much space from Angelina. He can be a little more minimalistic and follow more flow of Angelina. Don’t take me wrong he is an amazing pianist.

Ivan Mendez has stated that the hardest thing to do was concentrate on his playing while listening to Angelina singing. Never more than one to two takes and never because of Angelina as she was always on point.

See, how she reads the lyrics, Ivan Mendez, the guitar player told once, that there is no time forpractising, because the ideas for songs appear directly in these sessions, then they shortly try, Angelina tells him to just follow her, and then the record it in 1 or two takes. Real professionals.

She was specially invited to Quincy Jones' 85th birthday to sing in the O2 Arena - London. He discovered Michael Jackson and said she was the greatest talent since him.

That poor guitarist, Evan Mendez, got abused (in a good way) by the Jordan family, lol 😂 It's all there in an interview. They hired him temporarily to accompany Angelina, but it didn't go as he expected. He just came from work, no time to change clothes, no time to clip the strings at the end of the guitar (you can see the strings hanging in this video), then Angelina just gave him a lead sheet of a song, expecting him to know the song and asked him to play, but of course he didn't know the song. So he had to learn to piece on the spot, Angelina taught him how to play and corrected him multiple times. Then they did one or two takes, and that's the recording we get. I feel so sorry for that poor guy 😅

That's Ivan Mendez. He has his own channel. There is an interview where he talks about playing music for Angelina. He is her L.A. guitarist. There is also an interview done by her Norway guitarist Egil Clausen. They are both very interesting and you get a little insight into Angelina.

Well done Matt! It is said of Ivan Mendez, the guitarist, that he is the perfect one to accompany Angelina. It's easy to agree with that. Angelina's rendition of Adele's 'A Million Years Ago' is one of the most sublimely beautiful she's ever made. Ivan M.'s facial expression says it all. He can not believe what he hears, and neither can we.

I think Egil, the Norwegian guitar player that accompanied her for years, is better - if only because he thoroughly knows the music Angelina tends to go for. In fact, Ivan did not impress me much initially because he stumbled on occasions. It was only later that I discovered why: He was simply not familiar with some of the songs Angelina. He was just thrown in at the deep end of the pool to sink or swim. According to an interview with Ivan I saw, their sessions frequently started with a song he simply did not know, and by the time he was just getting the hang of it, the session ended by recording it. No wonder he occasionally stumbled under these circumstances, anyone would have. Ivan is, in fact, a bloody good guitar player.

Like everyone else, I was amazed seeing Angelina sing when she was very young. But when I heard her sing this, I realized that Angelina, at 11, was one of the best singers I ever heard. Her voice, her emotion, and the way she interprets lyrics is spectacular-her age is irrelevant. Ivan on guitar knows how to back Angelina. I’ve read that this was probably a jam session. Angelina picks a song, telling Ivan to “follow me”, and he does that beautifully. You can really see that working between the two of them on Angelina’s completely unexpected, completely mesmerizing take on California Dreamin. Like she does so often, Angelina strips the song down to its basics, slows it up, and plays with the melody just enough to give us something we loved in a completely new, beautiful, soulful version. It’s not the Mamas and the Papas-it’s Angelina and Ivan knocking it out of the park, but respecting the iconic original. In this Adele classic, Angelina is adding nuance and inflections that fit the theme of the song so much more passionately than Adele's non-jazz like version. You just feel Angelina deep in your inner most soul whenever she performs heartfelt ballads like this, for no one does it better.

Thanks for another great reaction with this great little girl, Matt. Some songs don't really understand each other until Angelina translates them and makes them emotionally understandable. This is another one of her super powers. In this cover made at age 12 and as she reads the lyrics, she feels more emotional and deep and with tones in a wider range than Adele's. Her way of representing all this is always so simple, calm, confidential and accompanies you, comforts and caresses you with those notes that gently slide around you, it is something so intimate that you will never feel the need to detach yourself from her voice. This girl is simply unreal 💛 🧡 ❤️

With your head placed where it is, it seemed you were paying very close attention to Ivans string picking :-) As I understood it was a series of performances in this similar setting. There are at least three other recordings: Happier, California dreaming and Always on my mind. The last one was recorded just after her grandfathers funeral and is potent.

You hit the nail on the head about the way music (or creating in any art) can lift us into an expanded awareness. Angelina said in an early TV interview that when she sings, she goes to a special, blissful place. I believe she's been able to connect to that place for a long time now, and thus the word "effortless" that comes into the mouths of so many listeners and reactors when Angelina sings. Hi Mat. Allan Papier did a interview with this guitarist. I think was with this song. He was saying when he first played Guitar with her he was so amazed by her singing, he would find himself having to catch up and Realy constant on his playing. I don't think Allan would mind you reaching out to him. Or even like to do an interviews with each other. He has become a huge fan of Angelina's as well.

Always a pleasure to see your reactions and i subscribed you a while back. I think stay and A million years are recorded same evening as guitarist Ivan Mendez mentioned in an interview that he had put new strings on for that session and not cut off the rest of the strings that was to much and in both performances they are to long. Angelina also reads the lyricks of a laptop/phone/pad and they did many recordings impulsive and often in 1 shot. If they did 2 tries it was the musician that messed up he said.

Ivan Mendez has his own fan club amongst us Angels. There is an interview with Alan Papier somewhere on RU-vid where he describes how the sessions play out - in a word, casually. They go into the music room, Angelina picks out a song she likes, finds the words on her iPad while Ivan checks the chords, and then they record! Sometimes a second take. If more are needed it's always because Ivan messed up.

Yeah, the Alan Walker reaction hit a nerve but it doesn't mean I don't appreciate ya! Most of your reacts I really like a lot, some are okay and that is the only one that got me a little irritated. So, as you can see, I'm here for another one. Ivan Mendez is a fantastic player and he blends perfectly with Angelina's interpretations. Watch Alan Papier's interview with Ivan about his time playing with Angelina. He is wearing a work shirt, because he would go straight from the office to sessions, which were frequently not rehearsed with a song that Ivan hadn't heard before.

As you watch these home sessions you should notice something - she looks off to the left. What she's doing is looking at the lyrics on her phone. She may know the tune but she doesn't know the lyrics all the time. Sometimes Ivan didn't know the tune at first. For Ivan Mendez's interview go to: youtube/2uQyt2T3ayE. One thing to understand is that Ivan is not a full time musician. Here's how it worked. After work or on weekends he would go to her house and hang out with the family. After dinner Angelina would decide what song she wanted to do. They would look it up on the internet and get the tune down and Angelina would put the lyrics on her phone if she didn't know them. I don't know how much the practiced but I get the feeling, not much. Then they'd start the filming the video. Understand this too. All these sessions were done in one or two takes and Ivan claimed it was always his fault if they needed a second. So there it is - a part-time musician meets with Angelina they pick a song that they may or may not know and come out with a beautiful cover in 1 or 2 takes. Check out the interview I listed above.

Someone has surely given you the link to the interview with Ivan Mendez where he speaks about the summer they worked together. She was 12 and they would get together about once a week and hang out. Eat. Then figure out what she wanted to sing and he would learn the song as quick as he could then they would record. Quite awesome really. And you can tell he is just entranced with her singing. Matt, I love and respect you and your channel and look forward to your videos. However, you have put me in a dilemma. I have left several messages in the comments as to how important it is to support the artist fully. This includes links to the original video, links to the official channel, and encouragement to your viewers to subscribe to these links either verbally or via text box. None of these changes have taken place from what I can see. It is as crucial to the artist as it is to your channel when you promote your own. Your channel would not exist without the artist! I hope to see these changes implemented imminently, or very reluctantly I will be forced to unsubscribe. I hope that is not necessary. Thanks for what you do.
