After seeing them online back then, I always thought the trio of the Shin Musha, Musha Mk-II, and the Tokugawa Ieyasu looked cool af. With that price tag though, I think I'll just stick with the idea of eventually getting the Musha Mk-II to pair with my shiny Shin Musha.
This kit is the second holy grail of gunpla, the first being the pg rx-78-2 gold coated, i think only 200 were made? Edit: apparently only 30 pg rx-78-2 gold kits were made, i dunno why i commented 200
It because of the chemical make up of the metal flakes interacting with the gold shade. For some reason it causes it to be so brittle. We have quite a few examples of that in the Transformers fandom and Dub it as Gold Plastic Syndrome or GPS for short
Good old GPS, thanks to that there's figures that are straight up a Schrodinger's Cat of if it will even be in once piece when you open the box...most of them being of the Beast Wars line.
The metallic-injection plastics are usually brittle and prone to breaking. From what I know, the plastic doesn't always mix properly with the glittery material, so it forms weak bonds as it hardens.
By the looks and brittleness of the plastic, that kit might be a victim of Gold Plastic Syndrome. It's commonly found in old Transformers toys that try to use gold or pearlescent plastic, making them slowly deteriorate over time.
Just some information. This Gundam is available at Kunōzan Tōshōgū in Shizuoka prefecture, which is the final resting place of Tokugawa Ieyasu. It costs about 7,300¥.
"[...] the peg going into the upper arm, it just shattered into tiny, tiny little pieces." "[...] Silver Tier, which is what I would expect from a Master Grade" Uhh...
Hey Mecha, you put the tops of the backpack (for the beam sabers) on backward. I noticed cause I'm actually working on the regular Musha MKII currently.
@@HarmonyEdge I didn't know those were damage-prone parts on those toys... Granted i've never really handled my brother's Optimus and we never found an Energon Scorponok.
The floral stickers u are talking abt is actually washi paper, similar to masking tape in common use. Japanese love to decor their washi tapes so much its an art on its own. BUT do take note, these stickers/washi stickers dont lasts and peels off (or loses its stickiness) over time on its own.
I currently live in Nishio, Aichi, which is right beside where Ieyasu was born, Okazaki city. I've been to Okazaki Castle a few times, and the Tokugawa descendants still curate the castle. I'm sure they'd love that Gundam.
My friends once told me this kit is so hard to find that people would often buy and sell or trade this kit but never build it, like the value of it being in your backlog is enough of an enjoyment, can anyone that owned this kit attest to that feeling? im really curios
We in the Transformer community call that gold plastic syndrome, it plague's most older toys and figures made out of gold (and or sometimes bronze) plastic. I recently got a Transformers and Star wars crossovers Millennium Falcon (a toy from my childhood), and the Chewbacca's bronze plastic crumbled to bits. Almost made me cry watching a part of my childhood fall to apart.
The gold injection plastic in reissue version of this kit isn't brittle for me. I. build and pose mine without breaking anything! Works great and looks very beautiful, highly recommend this kit now.
I would love to see a Date clan variant of this with a nodachi, I'd grab that in an instant. A Shimazu or Oda variant would be wicked as well, same with a Takeda and Uesugi. I just want a variant for every major clan of the Sengoku Jidai honestly, preferably more durable than the Tokugawa one (Which seems to be about as durable as the Tokugawa clan in Shogun 2).
i think that the texture of the floreal stickers is meant to replicate fabric, since the places where they are applied, thighs and arms, are where the clothes under the armor would be visible.
I was just thinking about this kit earlier, trying to recall what it was called. Always called it the "rare musha gundam" lmao. Really want to get one and keep it sealed as a collection masterpiece. Would look nice on shelves, for sure.
@@Frost_Glitch2.0 yeah, but I'm just so used to seeing some kind of helmet decoration that not seeing one is rather odd. Tokugawa's armor is deceptively simple given his status.
It's also supposed to have a pair of golden bull horns sticking out of the sides of the helmet. But, the minor changes definitely give this Musha MK II a unique look.
as for the issue with the gold-injected plastic being brittle, back in the 90's Transformers figures with such similar plastics are also known to shatter to pieces without even touching them for years and is probably due to the chemical mixture used during that time, we call them "Gold Plastic Syndrome" or "GPS" for short.
If you can go to Hong Kong or japan, this thing is super cheap. I got mine for less than 40 bucks (far less than pbandai preorder srp) when I was in hk from a carousell reseller. It seems that tons of resellers ordered this but have to take a loss to sell this off coz it’s wayyyy too over saturated in the aftermarket
You should definitely topcoat/seal this thing because GPS (Gold Plastic Syndrome) will only get worse over time. One day on your shelf it might just crumble or break without you even touching it. The topcoat will help hold it together but it really won't stop the plastic from degrading. IMO encase it in epoxy. It's really the only thing you can do to save it. And considering how rare this is IMO it's worth doing.
The way it broke, got me flashbacks to the horrible days of gold plastic syndrome Transformers had long ago, i dont know how old the kit is, maybe it has some of that
when this came out i was hopeing so much that we would get others like Date Masamune. i also wanted more of the kyoshiro plamo kits like Knight Gundam.
That plastic sounds like GPS. Gold Plastic Syndrome. Transformers had a huge case of it back in the day. Some Transformers literally disintegrating as they were moved. Would suck if this is the case for this kit.
Long ago in a distant space colony I, Zaku, the shapeshifting mobile suit of darkness dropped a space colony onto earth! But a foolish Gundam warrior wielding a magic beam saber stepped forth to oppose me. (WOOSH! CLASH! CLANG!) Before the final blow struck, I threw open a portal in time and plunged him into the future where my evil is law! Now the fool seeks to return to the past and undo the future that is Zaku!
I am happy with the original version of this one, I like the horned helmet more anyway. On that one the biggest gripe are the hip connectors of the scabbards, they are way to loose.
Compare to the normal MG musha gundam mk-ii. The Tokugawa ver. has less sticker but it got the colorize version also the golden helmet that match the real Tokugawa armor in the history. That cool. Another fact : These gunpla are the 2010 premium-bandai, the sale price is only 7000 yen
I kind of want to get a donor musha mk 2 and replace all the injected plastic parts with a painted version from the regular kit, except for the helmet of course.
On the subject of Gundams with a samurai look there are two that are figures the size of a perfect grade called devilhunter. They're both made to look like characters from Sengoku Basara and they the Date Masamune Vidar and the Sanada Yukimura Bael these are kickass I highly recommend you check them out Mecha.
I just saw one of these downtown! They had a ton of other _incredibly_ rare kits there (I picked up a MG Zaku Slash Phantom on my way out), but unfortunately it was waaaaay too hard to park at to visit regularly. When I first heard of how limited print this kit was, I was legit afraid of how badly I might screw it up if I built it, so I left it behind.
If you can get it pick it up ( I would ) even if unbuilt I'd put the musha box's together for completions sake 😈 OK I'd get another mk 2 and repaint using the helmet weapons and markings 😁
Good ol' Gold Plastic Syndrome. Like others have said, never touch this thing again, it is only gonna get more fragile over time. Its days are numbered, so just try and preserve it as long as possible before it eventually crumbles completely.
It’s an older kit, possibly one of the first ‘B-club’ kits, and apparently has never been reissued. Combine that with the apparent Gold Plastic material, and this kit is a time bomb. For reference, GPS is the apocalypse with regards wTransformers, because it is chemically unstable. It eagerly loses hydrogen bonds, which makes it brittle as glass.
I just know about this ... I have MG Musha Gundam mk-ii ... but this is the variant ... so cool!!!! ... is this premium bandai? never know never see this everywhere also mine dont have brittle plastic like this one ... just a normal MG plastic
Sounds like Gold plastic syndrome and given the color, it probably IS that 'gold' plastic that's basically a death sentance to anything that is made of it.
somehow we need a list of gunpla with brittle plastic. Only one I can remember was the Delta Kai (mainly the bright white plastic) and not sure if the previous variants are affected
Katana dont have a pommel... its actually called a “Kashira” and its only there to strike your opponent, assuming hes getting to close to u, and to help tie off the tsuka ito wrap of the tsuka or handle. It has nothing to do with balancing out the swords weight, like a traditional pommel
the gold injection plastic on this was so brittle mecha just dont want it to explode thats why he didnt bother to flip the verniers on the back pack hahahaha
