I feel like the 1 star cake was actually made like the photo he sketched. While the 5 star did their own thing. Cause he sketched a 2 layer cake with a trash can on top. So i vote the 1-star cake actually 🤷
the 1 star cake is better because it's closer to the sketch and cheap. It is a custom cake afterall. The 5 star cake is better because it took a lot of effort and time and it's beautiful
@@lousir26 You can not want your money back for the £200 one like what? They spent so much time making that and while it isn't like the design they probably could've done his design for around £150 and felt like they should give a better service.
I get what you both mean and I do agree with you both. But (In my personal opinion) they should have verified with the client before making the cake alterations. I know they spent more time on the 5star cake but unless a client says otherwise a business should be doing what the client is asking for. My husband runs a clothing business, and a design & printing company & if he ever gave a client a product that he altered without informing the client (even if it looked amazing) it would be bad reviews for his company & bad word of mouth that. So i guess I'm coming at it with that type of mindset. But again i do agree the cake for 5 star is good. Just not worth my vote due to the business side.
I think the idea of the cake the "5-star cakemaker" had was great, however, the artist should always get back to the customer when making such radical changes to the initial idea. I'm a painter and sometimes I get requests from customers. If I have any alternative ideas, I always present them to them before making such radical changes.
OMG YOU ARE COMPLAINING ABOUT IT HAVING “STICKS” THAT MAKES IT STRUCTURALLY SOUND THAT JUST SHOWS THAT THEY ARE TRAINED AND KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING THAT IS A GOOD THING
Lexi Johnson he might not know that but that doesn’t mean you have to go off at him. Please give him some respect because he did nothing to you and if all you wanted to do was complain then you should keep that to yourself, some people still have things to learn and it’s not right to say that, just saying
@@sabrinaleifker4507 Well he was confused by the sticks and didn't rly like that they were there, so it's totally okay to tell him that it's normal and even a good thing. In this comment wasn't even any hate, so why are you offended?
The sticks are so important! Without the “sticks” your cake would be like the leaning tower of Pisa. Or worse. Without supports the cake would just seep into the other layer. Don’t ask for layers if you don’t want supports in them!
The "sticks" are very important to support the cake. They hold up all of the above layers. With a cake that tall, without the "sticks" the cake would be tilting.
There is literally no cream between the layers of the 5 star cake , gotta say the 50$ cake is better. They did what you want and there is enough cream between the layers
tbh the cheaper one is better because they did what he drew. the expensive one is nothing like his drawing. if i paid that much money I'd want them to do what i asked them to, not something else
@@ItsQueenJane well all he gave them was a picture, there was no specific instructions soooo it's up for interpretation and they used creativity and based it off the photo so I was just stating as someone who bakes and is studying culinary arts I just feel like unless it is specifically noted that they want it exactly like the design, and that's why most bakeries have the client come in and talk about the cake and discuss ideas so everyone's on the same page, all he did was send in a drawing with no specific instructions
@@emilyayers172 of course. if you just do it for fun or sth. but if you spend so much money on a cake and you actually send them a drawing of what you want it to look like, they shouldn't change it that much. imagine you'd order, for example a wedding cake. you plan it all and spend a whole lotta money on it, and then you get sth that's the same idea but completely different from what you wanted. if zhey charge that much they shouldn't just do what they want but what the customer asked them to. I'm really sorry for this rant✌😅
Yo the one star cake is fantastic wdym it’s exactly what he asked for the trash is small and still manages to be supper detailed and didnt change his design and 50$ isn’t cheap
It is quite inexpensive for a cake like that. I mean think about all the individual ingredients for a start, then you have to charge for your time, labour and skill, and then you have to take into consideration the money it costs to heat the ovens. There's probably even more funding I can't think of right now! 🍰
The sticks are necessary for support. They are a typical tool found in tall or heavy cakes with multiple layers. It shouldn't be a surprise to find them there. The bakery knew what they were doing.
Bro I feel like every one of your comment sections is so much negativity and hatred compared to a lot of youtubers - you make amazing content and seem like a sweetheart - you def don’t deserve that :/
$50 for a cake? thats hella cheap. making a cake is a lot of work and hours and ingredients. Cake is really expansive and as a baker seeing those cakes actually really make me happy because some of theses people love baking and they post their stuff because they're proud of it. we all started somewhere you cant make a perfect cake without making questionable cakes at first. practice is good. and to anyone who loves baking, DONT STOP BAKING even if your cakes turn outs looking like a monster. keep baking and learning from your mistakes.
The dowels (sticks) in the cake are necessary for the cakes to retain their shapes. I’m actually surprised the first cake had no dowels in it and didn’t fall over. It would have to be super dense and honestly it probably compacted down from all the weight of the fondant and creme, making it even more dense by the time you cut into it. The dowels help hold up the cake while retaining its fluffy texture.
So, first impression of the 5 star is they changed the design a lot, and if I wanted something specific that would bother me. It's a nice cake, but not what was asked for. I actually really like the design of the 1 star cake, because they do deliver what was shown to them and if I wanted something specific that would be the place I went to.
Bruh when he said “I’m gonna have to call them and give them a bigger tip” made my heart so happy idk why that’s just so wholesome that he’s willing to go back and tip them more idk
The cheap one wins to me, they actually made what he wanted instead of the other one that just made what they wanted and the cheap ones tasted better as well 🤷🏽♀️
Those are the 2 most common flavours in a double layer cake, and the sticks are used to ensure that the cake doesn't cave in with the weight of the fondant and a second layer on top
He annoyed me honestly. He rates and judges but honestly he didn't know anything about cooking or baking. And that girl dropped the cake. She wasn't even paying attention. Her one job!
The dowels in the $200 cake are there to support the top tier; if they hadn't put all that support in place, your trash can would've sunk into the bottom tier. It does make cutting the cake a bit tricky at times, but it's totally necessary.
honestly, i wouldnt know what to choose. like if i handed in a sketch of what i want, id be expecting something that looked very similar (like the 1star did for your sketch). As nice as the 5 star is, if its not what i sketched, id feel a little disappointed. for example: if i wanted a plain white frosted cake with a banana on top it, thats what i want. if you give me a banana shaped cake, thats not what i wanted. its cool, but no. it would almost feel like someone said "yeah, cool idea, but my idea is better" at the same time id probably love it because i didnt think of it. but i dont know.... i kinda also imagine a kid designing a cake, and how sad they might be receiving a cake that looks nothing like what they pictured.
I work in a bakery. Usually when im designing a cake i take into account everything the customer wants. If they shoot at idea at me i take it and ask "do you want this or do you want this?" Usually they go "oh i didnt think you could do that!" But its always nice to sit down and throw around ideas to get the cake they want. Its a fun job. :)
I’m a cake maker myself & I thank you for showing me how my customers would react when they cut my cakes and find sticks in them :) Just FYI those sticks were there for a reason: To prevent the top tier sunk into the bottom tier, i.e Secure structures and that’s what the 1 star cake lack of. See how it slid off the base when your friend dropped the cake? ;)
The 'sticks' are support skewers. Professional cake decorators know to use them to support the top cakes. Also, you would have been given a cutting guide if they're good decorators.
I agree, if you want a personalised cake met to your specific requirements, then you want a cake that's been personalised to your specific requirements. Not a "version" of it.
@@Gloomyraindrop the one star is indeed closer to his original design, one blackish layer and one blueish layer qith a little trash thingy on top, whilr the five star is likr a blue layer and a huge trash can. The five star is still better though
Not a rocket scientist but i think when customers dont ask for a specific flavor the bakery gives them strawberry or vanilla on top and choclate on bottom
To be honest I’d be pretty annoyed with a FIVE STAR bakery if I specifically gave them a custom design and they changed it. Even if it is technically better that’s not really the point
kitty when my mom got married, she asked for an ivory cake with pink cherry blossoms coming up the side and for some reason the bakery changed the cake and made it pink and added a border and all kinds of things. Yes it was nice but not what my mom wanted
LaryBary58 exactly, even if the bakery does think they can make the design ‘better’, it doesn’t mean that they should because there might be reasoning for the original aspects of the design.
The amount of cream they put between the 2nd and 3rd layer on the expensive cake is so small and so uneven comparing to the 1st and 2nd layer.Thats honestly embarassing for any bakery
The sticks in the cakes are dowels and they are used so the cakes support it's own weight. If there isnt any dowels, the top tier of the cake would just sink into the bottom tier. My mum is a cake Baker. I know my shit 😂😂😂
I like this series but you should try to guess which one is the 1-star and which one is the 5-star, and pick your favorite before you know which one is which too.
Vanilla and chocolate are pretty generic flavors that everyone likes, so it makes sense why both of the bakery’s would pick chocolate and vanilla when you didn’t ask for a specific flavor. That 3D cake was gorgeous even though they didn’t exactly follow your design
Although the 5-star cake looks gorgeous it's not what he wanted. I think that when the costumer takes the initiative to literally draw an image of how the cake should look like, it should look like the image. And the sticks are normal in such a giant cake. It's really massive and in order for it to stay like it should and not to break apart the sticks should be in the cake. They should have even been in the 1-star cake 'cause I can imagine how heavy it is. The 1-star cake wouldn't survive as long as the 5-star cake.
Sticks are in the cake for support! If the sticks were not there the cake would clapse on itself or become very uneven! Supports are in every good cake
i don’t think you understand the concept of wooden dowels in multi-layered cakes. cakes are heavy and (especially when you’re requesting intricate designs) the cakes need support or else it’ll be impossible to get those other layers.
If they had put the trash can tier on top of the other cake, the weight of it would have smashed the bottom cake, and it would have collapsed on itself. The dowels help support the cake and distribute the weight evenly. It's like support beams in a house.
Those sticks are dowel rods used as supports to hold the trash can on top. If the bakery didn’t use the rods the top layer would crush the bottom. I worked as a pastry chef.
Karlin Bennett ikr. I like to watch cake making videos. At least have common knowledge on cakes before a doing a review. Also, much repect to you for your efforts and time consuming trade. Wish you the best.
Korynn Dickey still doesn’t make sense.. he wanted a two tier with a small can, if I ordered that and got a big can I’d be like wtf? This isn’t what I asked for
Sarah Rezkalla It really wasn’t what he asked for, but I think they decided that the cake he requested wasn’t worth £200, so they made it worth his money?
Krystal German bruh when you order something as a pastry chef / baker you gotta use the reference pic, not just do anything cause that’s not what they wanted via the picture so?
I would have been mad if the 5 star one was my cake because it really does not look too much like your drawing... the 1 star one actually tried to make it look similar. This is my opinion🤷🏻♀️
Iv just watched your wedding cake video n now this one. I’d just advise you check the hygiene rating. Some budget cake makers aren’t even registered so won’t of got a food hygiene certificate or hygiene rating from the environmental health
The wooden dowels are used to hold heavy cakes up that have multiple layers so that they don't collapse. As annoying as they may be, they are there so that the cake holds up.
Everyones just upset at the $200 cake because it wasnt accurate to his drawing but honestly I think that was just beautiful and really creative Like he was excited for the flies, nothing will be 100% accurate and some people just have a different idea Id be happy with that cake it looks REALLY cool with the big ol trash can! They stuck with the theme after all!
In this case it might have been good, but what if you order a cake that you actually want to look like the way you described it, and they just change it because they think it will look better that way? In the worst case scenario you could actually return it and demand them to make it again and in the way you wanted it. Unless, of course, you officially allow them to be creative.
Bloody Rose sometimes stuff doesnt be 100% accurate to what you picture reference or no reference Im bad at explaining my thought process but Im the type to literally not give a shit with the “it can be worse” mentality XD
I think the writing wasn’t very good on the 5 star one because they wanted to fit the theme. If it was nice writing it wouldn’t fit the theme very well.
If you’re fine with your cake falling apart then keep complaining about the sticks. Pro bakers put the sticks and the layers to make sure the cake stays stacked up and doesn’t fall over or get ruined.
I really like these cake videos and I dont even like cake, lol. An idea: give your own 1-5 star rating on both cakes; rating the presentation, taste, filling, creativity, price, etc.
Never in my life have I heard a RU-vidr say “only like and subscribe if you truly like the video” and I think that’s SO awesome and humble ❤️ I have been subscribed for a long time now, but if I wasn’t already I definitely would have after this video
