That boba cake is a thing here in Vietnam. Most of the time, the boba part will come in a separate container from the cake to retain its original taste and gummy texture. When you want to dig in, just gently place the boba on top, and voila

FYI, at that first bakery, those cakes were in a beverage chiller, not a refrigerator. It's generally recommended that food isn't stored in beverage chillers because they don't distribute the cold air evenly between the shelves, so the food can end up reaching a higher temperature than is safe.

The first bakery is definitely an indian bakery because there are items like gulab jamun and veg samosa, also the cake in the beverage chiller had design elements of a lot of indian cakes (chocolate shavings and a maraschino cherry). That bakery might not have specialized in cakes specifically because indian desserts are heavy with fried food soaked in sugar not iced cakes, but yeah it definitely look cluttered and disorganized!

I'm glad to see positive comments in the comment section... There are a lot of people complementing him, his ideas and his contents. In his previous videos years ago, the comment section is filled with a lot of negative feedbacks like "Wow, you're stupid" or things like "Bruh yoir contents are not good, fake". May he gain a lot more followers who truly supports him.

You are not stupid. Great idea for a cake. They should’ve covered the boba pearls with a light jelly like they do for freuit cakes and tarts to preserve them from drying or welting. Or they could’ve made dark jelly ballads to use instead of boba balls.

This cake is quite common here in some countries of Asia and it does taste good! The only difference is, baker would exclude the pearls from placing it on top of the cake early and they would put in a different container, so once arrived you can pour it on top of the cake yourself and the taste is exquisite.

The bobba tea cake seems like something that needs to be finished at the event before it's revealed to everyone. Like just keep the caramel on the cake but they just pour on the pearls and sauce right before they cut into it and serve it

This type of cake is very popular in asia 2 years ago, it call "Bubble milk tea lava cake". The tapioca pearl on the top of the cake have to be kept warm separately when it arrive and be poured on the cake by customer when they eat.

Boba cake is very popular in Asia, the Boba pearls should be eaten on the day they are made. My family own a bubble tea place and we often make more than one batch of tapioca pearls each day since they lose their chewiness very fast. We would never use a batch from the day before since they would be hard by the second day. When we make bubble tea at home we would also finish the pearls in one day before they lose their chewiness

0 Hygiene rating London: clustered boxes in the store and some sugar on the floor and wall. For the standard that EU has they will rate 0-1 every bakeshop in my country.

Semi-naked drip cakes are the easiest things to make! There really isn’t much effort required to make it look nice, I’m shocked at how bad the 0 rating cake looks!

The idea is not stupid. I've seen a couple people review boba cakes before, so they're actually a thing. Not common, but still a thing and everyone who tried them became obsessed with them.

Maybe the tapioca pearls can be given on the side in the syrup and added right at serving 😀

He had a problem with the 1st bakery having cakes in their fridge but then goes on to put cakes in his freezer for 2 days and then eat them

We actually have bubble tea/boba cakes here in Ontario - it's a mini lava cake that has a mousse topping with the tapioca pearls sitting in the mousse. You can get regular flavour, and also brown sugar! They're made by Bakecode and sold at Chatime, but looking online, it seems like a bunch of places sell these cakes as well!

Actually, boba cake is really popular in Asia since a long time already. Now they're even doing boba lava cakes + testing other flavors/texture. It's just never been done in the UK. So, your idea is plausible. However, the pearls should be eaten fresh just like how bubble-teas should be drank on the day it's made or else it'll harden in the fridge.

Probably if there was a layer of hard tempered white chocolate with caramel over which the tapioca pearls were spread just before setting would've prevented the water from getting inside the cake. Or else they could have sent a separate container with tapioca pearls sitting inside a pourable caramel sauce to drizzle over the cake once it arrived

I hate the fact that 0 star bakery doesnt give any effort to make a good cake. The fact that is cheap doesnt mean that you to do a horrible cake. For the bubbles they could used blueberries to make a similar effect. And please, a caramel dripping its not so difficult to make. Actually if you dont know how to make a caramel sauce, just use caramel chocolate from callebaut and heavy cream, and done! really sad, looks like they didnt give a shit.

I feel like if they put a disc of thin modeling chocolate across the top of the cake and then more caramel sauce (as well as properly cooking the Boba) then maybe it would have solved the texture issues

If you want the tapioca pearl topped cake make the cake ahead of time but withhold the pearls till right before serving. 🤤 Then the idea is genius not a fail.

The first bakery looks like any other local bakery here in India :( And looks like that place was definitely owned by an Indian, with samosas and all kinds of Indian sweets. Sadly, in India, many small bakeries and eateries do not give a damn about hygiene. it's their least concern.

It wasn't that bad of an idea actually, I think it would've worked better if you asked to have the tapioca pearls on the side and you put it in the cake yourself

The first place (1 start hygine) looked like a south asian bakery, probably more trained to make south asian deserts, and not use to advanced cake orders. The 5 star hygiene placed looked like cake was their main product.

As a cake decorator yeah tapioca Pearls are not the best it easiest thing to decorate with but props to the 5 star for that lovely cake!!

Due to the fact that it’s been in a fridge for two days, the bubbles are just supposed to be complete rough and solid. But I can imagine how good and chewy it could be if it got eaten right away.5 star’s is just wonderful!!!!!

The cake was wet because they sometimes put sugar syrup or simply syrup in the cake to make it moist. They even put milk and make it like tres leche

You should order a plain sponge from both bakeries and compare them.

We definitely need a part 2, but, please be safe

I think the cake idea is genious! I've seen vids of cakes with black tea bubbles on "Cooking tree" youtube channel. And bubbles are inside of the cake! So, you cannot be called "stupid", mister.

Even though the first cake was somewhat naked it still had been kinda patched up with some cream, which might have been a subtle way to cover up the fact that the cake was soggy. They probably did it because they knew that the tapioca pearls would kinda make the sponge much wetter and also because store bought cakes' sponge is always sogged more then it should to not make the cake dry during delivery and if the cake lasts more than the same day. I would have honestly expected better but in their defense you gave them a kinda difficult task and also looked happy with the result, which is what matters XD

You know I suddenly had a moment of clarity, where I realized...you don't tell them hardly anything in words, do you? You just give them a picture. A picture, made by an amateur, of a cartoony confection. Also, I think the comcwpt is fine, if you eat it when it arrives. Anything wet is gonna be not great if it is kept in a non airtight container and wet stuff doesn't do well on top of dry stuff for an extended amount of time.

The 0 hygiene bakery is definately a indian or pakistani's store because their is samosas, rolls and indian and pakistani sweets.

That 5 star place was a turkish bakery. Turkish bakeries are mostly always hygienic and tastiest but also very sweet

I think your idea was good, but I wish you'd have tried it fresh to get a more fair review. There are a couple things that could be done to make it work; having the pearls on the side then adding it to the cake later maybe. It's called trypophobia. I don't have it, but sometimes I do get that uncomfortable feeling with certain patterns. Just not to the extreme of an actual phobia.
