Ever notice if you don't send the IRS their money on time, they charge you penalties and interest. But, every year the IRS forcibly borrows billions of dollars from tax payers (interest free) and then sends them a refund in January.

Judges don't like it either. Go sit in family court and watch judges chew out unmarried people who break up and file pro se and expect the courts to treat them as if they were married

I usually don't make fun of the callers, but this guy has me scratching my head. $88,000 income and worried about $4,000 tax bill? I wrote a $4,000 tax check on a $40,000 income one year when I was self-employed several years ago. Yes, it sucks, but it's nowhere close to impossible. Another case of mountain out of a molehill

Its another one of those "I live paycheck to paycheck" scenarios. I have parents who make a combined income of ~$160k+ a year, if they had a surprise $4k debt they'd probably not have the money to pay it. Its crazy I know, but the more income people have the more wasteful they are, the more debt they get into, and they have less desire to make a budget.

He's worried because he's been putting all his income towards his debts, so when he found out he may have a surprise $5k mandatory payment coming up soon, he doesn't have the savings built up to cover it...

@@GamingTaylor I think this is a big flaw in the baby steps - putting so much money toward debt, and not keeping a big enough emergency fund.

@@erikrohr4396 Technically, he isn't even on baby step 2. Step 1 is to get current with all your creditors and save 1,000. He saved the 1,000 but he is not current with the IRS. Also, as Pimpin303 stated, he can get an installment plan. This is not really unacceptable under the plan because debt is debt. It's like the situations where you sell the car and get a loan to cover the difference.

I went through this the first two years of being a 1099. Just call them or respond to the letter and do a payment plan. Then throw everything you got at them and set aside that 25% for next year. It sucks but its not the end of the world. They were actually pretty nice when I talked to them. Just dont ignore them.

If you went to H&R block for your taxes. Have them done somewhere else. They dont know about trucking Last time I have them help me. They were off by 6K saying I owe IRS. I show them my phone that I only owe 2K . That's because earn extra money from a 2nd job. You should get a refund

So in 2017 he had a wife and 2 kids (hers, sounds like) living with him and taking out for the kids with taxes, sounds like the whole year. Now getting remarried in mid 2019. Seems fast to me but maybe I am old fashion. Hope they are not doing it to pay off debt.

Cray how these couples wanna play house, not commit, but expect to have the benefit of saying "we" anything. Under the law it's YOU AND HER. PLUS COHABITATION. PLUS MOST LIKELY FORNICATION. But that still only makes it YOU. No "technically" nothing. Glad he is getting married tho. but just glad Dave makes a distinction.

As a company driver CDL. You shouldn't be owing. You should be getting a refund . I USE TO make as much as u as a company driver and got a refund. Do your own taxes over again ( dont use H&R block) You got meal Expense Days over the road Property taxes Mortgage interests Redo your taxes again . U should get a refund of at least 5K

Yes, you can file an Amendment and get your money back. I did that one year when I forgot to claim a deduction that I was entitled to.

When is Dave going to get over the Christian superiority complex? Not everyone has to be married in order to have a successful long-term relationship with another person. It’s completely optional, and it’s much easier to formally end a non-marital relationship than it is to end a marriage. No division of assets. No attorneys fees. No stress. You just leave. Sure, you may not qualify for some tax benefits but whatever. But you shouldn’t have to deal with smug and disrespect if you don’t want to get married.

Tori Ellise You do know there is a difference between passion and arrogance right? It’s one thing to feel passionate about what you believe and disrespecting someone because they don’t necessarily believe the same way you do. Last time I checked, humility is a Christian virtue. So it’s totally contradictory to claim that you’re a Christian and then be arrogant about it. I think you need to revisit the Bible, because apparently you’re fairly ignorant on its most basic principles.
