Most of those "Pay to Fish" places are well worth the money. They keep the waters stocked with nice size fish and they keep the place very clean. I didn't see one piece of trash in this entire video! And very little to none human activity footprint! Very good! 👍🏼

@@egregiousblunder5395 Agreed! I didn't realize it cost $200! Was that shown or mentioned in the video? If it was, I missed it. I thought it would have been more like $50 or $60 . That just shows you, I've never paid to fish someplace! Except for Tournament Entry Fees (When I was younger and active). There's absolutely no way I would have paid $200 to fish that place! I "might" pay that down here in Islamorada, FLorida, for an all day excursion with Jimmy Houston. But, as famous and wealthy as he is, why would he need my $200? I am a 100% Disabled Veteran. There are many organizations down here that offer excursions to Disabled Vets for FREE! And that's using their boats and fishing equipment! I gave your comment a big ole "Thumbs Up"!

Dude I know I’ve been trying to push ( with my silly comments )some random fish guide here in California to invite you over here. But maybe I’ll try a different tactic I think you just need to come vacation out to California and try Northern California fishing. You’d like Lassen volcanic national park and the FISHING! Hat creek, trinity, Deer creek, upper Sacramento River( where it is crystal clear). I wish you and your fam health. Fish-on.

Been a while......but sidearm casting it is hard to lay the fly down softly on the water and much harder to maintain line control. Tie a tuff of yarn to the leader and practice in the yard. 2:00 to 10:00. Timing it to keep your line tight and the turnover loop small. On your release just let the rod tip to 9:00 and lay it softly on the water. Trout make a living eating bugs....the more it acts like one the more fish notice.. Trout season is the best time to be alive.......😎😎😎😎😎

North Georgia is awesome at stocking all our creeks, streams, and rivers with young trout, SEVERAL times during the season. It provides perfect opportunities for introducing newbies both young and not so young. Taking my daughter down the streams and fishing every tiny ripple and hole hoping to catch even the smallest of trout has given us the best of memories. Teach a kid to fish and they'll eat for a lifetime 😊

If you want to get good on that fly rod, take it warmwater fishing! Bluegill poppers in a pond (with no obstructions in back) and it'll become second nature. Then streamers for smallies and you'll have line control DOWN!

Here's a tip for catching rainbow trout or any trout in general if you want to catch them on flies with your fly rod. Two of my all time favorite flies to use are called black knats and royal coachmans, and they are some excellent flies that have high success rates, *but* they are only successful when the fly uses real feathers on them instead of anything artificial. This is something that I've noticed varies when I buy these flies from different stores, but they are probably some of the greatest fly options that you can ever use, between myself, my dad and my brother we have probably caught over five hundred trout between the three of us over the last five or so years. These flies are also very effective against bass which go crazy for them and we've even had great success for bluegill with them as well. Flies are very versatile and I would consider black knats and royal coachmans to be the best options out there for all of these fish.

4:30 Nick if you just stayed at that spot and really switched up flies to figure out what they were eating you probably could have hooked into way more of them, look at them all lined up at the bottom of that run. Change flies, and depths, often. Make sure your fly is drifting in the zone they are laying in... trout are very lazy but if the right looking bug comes within a few inches of their snout they will be much more likely to grab it. Turn over rocks in the riffles to see what bugs are naturals in the body of water, and put on your closest match. Barring that, use a leech pattern or san jaun worm, trout candy man! I keep hoping one of these days you'll just toss that spinning rod aside and force yourself to learn to fly fish, taking it with you to a place like this is handicapping your learning curve on fly rod for sure. Good luck and tight lines! Would love to take you out trout fishing on the fly in Alberta sometime 🙂

Nick mate you really need to go take a few fly casting lessons see if they cant correct some of the bad habits you have picked up as self taught and help you regain confidence,that first trout you lost on the fly was all down to you changing your mind from standing up and keeping the rod tip high while stripping in the fly line by hand(good) to dropping down to your knees and trying to wind the line onto the reel(bad) you created the slack that allowed the fish to fling the hook. Be more patient with them and dont try to pull them out the river too quick let them run which is what you should have done with that first one while keeping the tip of your fly rod high and connected to the fight,let them take back that line you stripped in until you have them back playing from the reel and the only time you drop the rod tip is if you feel it about to jump other than that you should be trying to poke the sun out the sky with your rod tip ;)
@vibratingstring
@vibratingstring 3 месяца назад
This. The bend in the rod tip is your friend. Keep it bent to keep the fish. Also concur wih the fiddling with reel. That can become important with bigger fish but not 12" trout. Better to stay focused on handlining which gives direct control. The beauty of flyfishing is getting the mechanical contrivances out of the system so you are connected 1:1 with the fish

I have not fly fished for a really long time. I will say though your technique seems to have really improved. I don’t think your line used to go so straight before. I never used to use the reel to play the fish just pull line and hold against rod. It gets a bit jumpy when netting but my teacher always said a fly reel just stores line. Really nice video, you are as close to fishing as I get now :)

Nick glad to see the ol fly rod back in action. As a fly rod fisherman for years myself try not tonreel.the line in you want to hold the line with the hand your rod is in and pull it in with the free hand and dont hold the tip up so high hold it about 45 to 60 degree angles to keep tension on the fish. And next time your at Wal-Mart in the fishing dept if they still sell them get you a Betty green dotted popper fly and have fun bass and bluegill will eat it all day long see ya in the next video buddy

I haven't fished for trout in a really long time. That was fun to watch. I think I used an 8 lb or 12 lb line with either a 2 lb or 4 lb or 6 lb leader line. It made it more exciting. You had to finesse the fish in, you couldn't muscle it in or you would snap your line. What weights were your lines?

I noticed that the first rainbow trout you caught (after switching to the rainbow trout colored lure) towards the end of the video had a bunch of scratches on it's face. Is that just from swimming through the debris (branches and sticks) in the water and running into rocks? Or are they battle scars from fighting with other fish and quite possibly escaping being eaten by other fish? Just curious what you think of it.
